Hi Cindy, many varnishes are food safe, you just have to let them cure. I've done the research and they are out there!

These are beautiful Mark. Are they food safe? And washable? I have saved some seed catalogs to use for decoupage projects. They are a great source for floral's. And also fruits, veggies, herbs. They are food safe and washable. Just make sure to let the varnish cure properly and use several coats letting it dry in between coats.

I love these you can get any plates and decorate them all the different holidays. Can you eat off of these? If not you can just decopage different things on the back of clear plates. I could just make 2 for each holiday since it's just my husband and myself now. I've always wanted holiday plates but I never thought of this until I saw your video. Thanks so much for sharing.

Hi Jackie, you can eat off of them if you give them enough coats of the varnish AND you let them cure. Just google food safe varnishes and find one that works for you! I like minwax.

I would like to do for a full set to use in summer!

Very nice. Once you apply the Polycrylic Minwax Clear Semi-gloss, does it stick well, and can you dust it off once dry? Do you have to have a sticker to place on the plate, or can you add a photo and then apply the Polycrylic?

Yes and yes. You need to let the varnish cure...google the food safe varnishes, they do exist! After letting it cure and with enough coats, they are washable.

Are these food safe with the Polycrylic? Or just decorative use only?

Hi Lisa, Minwax is food safe as are most varnishes. You just need to make sure that they are fully cured.
