The owners job is standing with his arms crossed, sunglasses on, and listening to this music on loop. He just lowers the sunglasses every time it dumps in scrap, then re-crosses his arms.

Quantum Furnace is super cool! From the looks of it, you've increased electrical efficiency by preheating scrap thus decreasing heat to charge temperature differential, decreasing tap-to-tap times by "priming" the next charge, and greatly reduced times to change vessels. Really fascinating work!

Preheating the scrap makes a lot of sense. Drives off all the crap that could cause explosions, and also recovers quite a bit of waste heat from the process that would otherwise be used in heating the scrap charge.

Lol mayan didn't have access for iron yet. It was aztec, but even then, their technology was still at infancy. They made use of iron's magnetic characteristics to induce controlled ferroresonance, which in turn cause the molecules to line up into specific orientation. Then by exciting the synchronized protons, they forced each adjacent atoms to recombine into higher order. While interesting, this method was inefficient, and even creates final waste in the form of gold. That's why they quicky exhausted their ore supplies. By the time conquestadors came, the aztecs no longer posses iron but tons of scrap gold
One of the videos that you learn something you never knew before, will never have the opportunity to apply this knowledge, but glad you know any way.

How is high levels of rust mitigated so that the bound O2 doesn't cause a flash when dumped in? Does the pre-heat "burn off" the rust somewhat?
would there be issues with heavy steel scrap falling and damaging components
Cool Desing, I can't tell but it doesn't look like there capturing their waste heat from the waste gasses and using it to generate power.
Digging the disco music! Even the molten steel is dancing to it> 1:43
First off, this looks and sounds like an amazingly efficient system and every time I watch videos about this set-up it brings me to the same question and after doing a lot of research on this I have yet to find an answer. Every video I'm seen of this system shows what I'd call medium and large scrap material being charged. The question that this brings up is how compatible is this system with smaller pieces of scrap like frag from metal shredding?
I have an important question regarding this plant. Do we get the techno music CD as part of the setup?

I liked the video. Really nice minimal techno too. I love the thumbnail picture and pictures like it.reminds me an old book I loaned from library. It had star wars ships cut to pieces and you could see inside and it had various descriptions of items... Next time I need a fully automated smelter, I'll definetly contact yoy guys!
Can I hook up my molten salt reactor for more efficient smelting?
"Hey grandpa, they're opening up the steel mill again! Oh wait... it's just for robots."
Looks good but it's got some flaws like contamination from the scrap. It can't be removed and a converter is still needed to make actual steel with the correct strength and properties. I also wonder what the life span is for the electrodes and what power is needed to get it up to temperature.
At the start, why have a crane that picks up the scrap and lowers it into a bin, then have the bin go up a slope and unload it... just have the crane do it. Why have 2 jaw like teeth above the furnace when a sliding floor (still with holes for venting/heating) is much simpler and stronger?
So you use convection to warm up the scrap before dropping it into the arc melting kiln? The pre-melted liquid iron must be pre-made to launch it, right?..
@PrimetalsTechnologies
2 жыл бұрын
The offgas is heating the scrap before dropping it into the already liquid steel bath (high heel). On an - for example - 100 ton EAF Quantum we only tap 100 tons of liquid steel and keep around 70 tons of liquid steel in the furnace for the next batch. This leads to an extremely continuous and efficient process with much less network disturbances than conventional furnaces. In order to start up an empty furnace, we ignite light scrap directly in the furnace shell until the high heel is large enough.
