    Great vid. The Hercules beetles also resemble their cousins found around Western Africa, most likely because they co-existed around that area before the Atlantic ocean was formed and the continents split. Augosoma centaurus, in particular, looks like a "proto" hercules beetle without the yellow elytra. Speaking of Augosoma, did you know that people in Cameroon actually eat them as a dietary supplement?

    LOVE the video and your content, but a word on speciation. While it might seem counterintuitive, the ability of many dynastid species to interbreed doesn't inherently negate their speciation. The definition of speciation extends beyond the simple inability to produce viable offspring to also include a lack of opportunity to do so. Factors such as geographic separation and other barriers to interbreeding can also contribute to speciation, aside from genetic differences. Additional factors like ecological niches, mating behavior, and temporal isolation can also play a role in the speciation process. Just more fun info :D Keep up the awesome content!

    I once had one of these guys in my house luckily it was a female much smaller than the male and had no horn. At the time I didn't know what type of beetle it was I didn't even know that It could fly. Even knowing that it is smaller than the male, this was the biggest beetle that I've seen. Ended up picking it up and putting it outside. I watched it for a while til it flew away... At this point I'm like wtf that sounded like a helicopter. I live in ny and never thought i would see one of these guys. Must be one of New York's rare sightings like the walking stick or a praying mantis. I hope ill see a male Hercules beetle. They look so awesome

    Blue Hercules beetle is my favorite Dynastes type. They're like a hybrid of Hercules beetle on their horns and Grant White beetle on their wings LMAO. Well, I have a question. Is Dynastes Hercules Hercules was the Blue Hercules beetle's scientific name?

  • @beetlecast

    @beetlecast

    Жыл бұрын

    That's correct! But it's more popularly recognized in this species: Dynastes hercules lichyi. In Japan, it's dubbed ヘラクレスリッキーブルー and it's so rare to the point where some question it's existence. Most versions are exactly as you describe it but there's this one youtuber that somewhat recently bought one that's much closer to a light bluish grey. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYSfj9B_lZaol8o.html
