I knee someone who bought a new build, but the ground was "reclaimed" bogland. The left side outter wall of his house dropped more than a foot after the first big autumn rain, sheering it from the rest of the house, making it immediately uninhabitable. There was another bunch of new builds the built on the grounds of a rail line (the had to tripple glaze because there's literal an active rail line going through the streets of the house!), and it didn't occur to them that maybe the wildlife already living there wouldn't get the memo that their homes were now being built over. So people began moving in only to find mice, rats, toads, the odd grass snake, moles, and an absurd number of grasshoppers, making their way into their nice new fancy house

Inhouse plumbing, a sewage system, this is in my personal top 5 of humanitys biggest achievement. We would live and die horribly in our own filth without it. Only when it breaks down, often by our own doing, we get a glimpse into the horror, that ages past had to deal with.

I'm a plumber in the USA and I didn't know there were manhole cleanout with basically the bottom half of a wye. In USA new houses have a double sweep cleanout and unless you enscrew the cap, the sewer is closed. Watching Drain Cleaning Australia , they have a different type of cleanout system also, they have inspection shafts and gullies. It's interesting to see the different ways plumbing is done around the world.

Also, Residential Drain Cleaning in the USA is primarily done with drum feed cable machines. Never seen a rubber disk on a stick and thought "that looks like drain cleaning equipment". We do use jetters for grease blockages in kitchen lines and when the cable can't get the blockage thought.
