Funniest thing is that Grigori would have never chosen a guy like Ethan. He was seeking a human with a strong enough will to challenge the dragon, and become the God of an endless and meaningless cicle, not some hot headed, emotional moron in search for revenge.

I treat the Dragon's Dogma anime as a prequel (Before Savan became an Arisen). The two things that make that work for me is that The Dragon isn't Grigori and that's made evident with how much they modulate David Lodge's voice (How are you gonna get the guy who voiced Grigori and not even make him sound like the badass presence that Grigori was?) and Aernst Castle had barely fallen to the unamed dragon.

@@agonleed3841 Grigori isn’t looking for bravery either. If he was, then what about the soldiers/ knights who might’ve been equally or just as brave as Ethan had been to put their lives on the line to protect their home? All forms of life in the world of Dragon’s Dogma are governed by their fate, not by their will. The Arisen is the only one who has the freedom of choice. If the arisen (after becoming strong enough to the dragon’s standards) chooses to fight Grigori and succeeds, the Arisen will be able to challenge the Seneschal (god.) The dragon isn’t choosing someone based off of emotion or their bravery, and the chosen person isn’t necessarily doomed to become a dragon in the end (unless they fail.) The true end goal of the Arisen is to become the new god after the kill the former one. The arisen must be mentally and physically ready to make this choice before achieving godhood. Ethan would not be that person.

I have spent the time modding that back into the game. It would have been perfect but Capcom lost the rights to it I think.

If they wanted to get a dark and edgy Dragon's Dogma anime they should have just adapted Edmund's or Ashe's stories instead of doing what's effectively an original plot wearing DD's skin like an Edgar suit.

i knew nothing, LOVED IT, now a year later im playing the game and i gotta say, the game is so good, why wasnt it mainstram

If you read the Devil May Cry thing Adi Shankar is the producer. He’s the main Castlevania is so dark. He also made Dredd, Dirty Laundry (short film), and a was a producer for a lot of notable films that dark. When he’s part of something it gets gritty.

Thing about DD is its Capcom's take on making a Berserk game. It is really dark when you actually get down to it. You have a Death Cult blood everywhere. What could be taken for Goblin Slayers Style Gobos....

In the anime, the arisen Ethan has a neighbor called Louis. In the game, the arisen has a next door neighbor called Lewes. In the game, Lewes was a 14 year old kid who lost the father priest's scriptures. That is why there is a sidequest for that. The arisen in the game only adopts Selene while Ethan adopts Louis. So if the arisen in the game were to get Lewes to live with him/her the arisen, he/she must agree to make Lewes his/her beloved and marry Lewes.

This show made me remember & give the game a chance to buy it. And so I did. Also thankful that at least they made the show maybe somehow to boost the sales for the franchise because it is really an super awesome but underrated RPG game (1 of my favorite RPGs of all time esp. the combat). Buy I agree with your point that they could have made a better quality for the show. Constructive criticism =)

I wanted to enjoy this show. I really did, but when your show is arguing "Slavery is good because it keeps people from doing drugs", then Im really gonna struggle to like it.

it didn't SUCK its just that they took another path, the journey was weird and the outcome had nothing to do with the original game. plus making it related to religion with those 7 deadly sins in the titles was strange... fuck it i don't even believe what i'm saying, i was excited when i saw there was a dragon's dogma series, but i only watched it hoping that there was "into free" at the last episode.

The pacing though They go out of their way to hammer home how much the hero is invested in his wife....and the orphan kid next door. They even add an unborn baby just to add to this. Then they kill all three. Okay, then The next episode, literally the day after all this, dude is completely over it Daduq, dude? 🤦🏾‍♂️

The only way the dark tones could have worked for me is having it keep the early campyness and generic high fantasy midival vibes for the first 2 or 3 episodes with ethan having the same story as the original arisen being a relitively young adult being thrust into a world he is completely ignorant of and have this be used both as a perspective character but also as a way to explain the campiness as purely a front most the nobility and guards put up where the darker truth of how the kingdom is run as well as the origin of the world destorys their perception of what becoming the arisen would be having them go from an upstart knight being sent on pointless tasks to get him killed or waste his time by the duke to someone who discovers the truth of the world, the lies and underhanded seedyness of most aspects of his world that he could never see as a fishermen in a small village. I mean the game even does this where all the missions you did were pointless and purely the duke wasting your time hoping you would die so your never a threat to his throne and you can even see this through mercades who trys her hardest to be the ideal knight which is not only impossible do to her gender but also the fact that the upper echelons of society does not cater to the idea of just knights but meerly wear it as a facad. with an anime these themes could have been focused on more and having it go from high adventure fantasy to a much grimmer darker tone by the time the arisen fights the dragon and the almost dark souls esk nothing really matters of the post game could have been amazing even making the final true boss fight against god less of a joke and give it the cinimatic flare that fight needed. hell even add in the bitter black isle part of the game as a side movie or give it, its own season where that could have been based on the 7 deadly sins where the arisen travels through the dark corrupted maze like island that is bitter black isle putting more focus on daimons past and how thay are relate to the 7 deadly sins as well as putting a deep focus on the history and relationship between dragons and the arisen as well as their role to take and giving a perceptive of not only how daimon felt during his stent as the arisen but other arisen as well as the dragons besides grigori. This could also be a side plot used to show how the protagonist has both changed from the start of their journey and the effects his journey has had on him having him become more jaded but also more pragmatic and the end of bitterblack isle be what has him come to terms with his role and killing grigori possibly in the next season from there and having that season be about the post game events having the truth of the dukes past as well as the true nature of everything start to come to light as the arisen discovers their role in everything discovering that not only was he being used but was being tested to take the role of the scenisha as well as seeing that both dragons and pawns are quite literally pawns being used for just this to be used to find and guide rather by assistence on his journey but also by trial by fire in the form of more monsters. I mean the game brushs over the fact that the scenisha is the cause of literally all the suffering they are the one who brough grigori to life as a dragon but also brought forth more monsters and even killed 100s by opening the everfall destroying a chunk of the kingdom and showing that in the end the scenishas are arisen who take the place of the prior scenishas and that they in a sense are also victims that the very world it self is an endless cycle of death and carnage to keep the world going with new scenishas and even push towards the plot desision of if the protagonist follows fate and becomes the next scenisha till they weaken and repeat the same thing or end the cycle freeing humanity but having to accept the fact that with freedom they may have also doomed humanity at the same time. sorry this is about as condenced as i can get the plot of the game to fit into the anime and sadly the anime from what iv seen is crap and any of deeper meta shit the anime could have put more focus on was thrown out the window to add sex and senseless dark gory crap. Dragons dogma is dark and even bleak but knowing the lore of world it makes sense and lest for me feels earned and sadly we did not get a good anime adaption that could have fixed the problems of the games story and pacing.

The anime was on speed run mode

Instead of doing an episode for each sin. They could have done each season for each sin. Which is about how many endings there are up to the Seneschal. About the ending for the show: we’ve only got about 7-8 endings the player can choose. While Dark Arisen and a few other instances where, the Dragonforged, where the story could end that the player couldn’t do. So, if they would have better shown us that because of Ethan’s anger/hate. He wouldn’t have been worthy of the future. Causing him to seek a more worthy Arisen.

Castlevania has choppy framerate but it's fuckin' awesome. It all depends who is making it.

I recently jump back into Netflix and saw dragons dogma.. started watching only to realise part of the way through that I'd seen it before... Whatda heck. It was very forgettable but they are still making a second season

I would rather watch 7 ep of Symone and the 'Masterworks all you can't go wron'g guy having adventures......actually seriously let's get that going!

The Castlevania anime actually got my girlfriend interested, and she doesn't even watch anime. The only one she's faithful to is My Hero academia, nothing else. So for an anime as different from MHA as Castlevania was, that says a lot. I just wish we one day get a game based on that anime.

BOY OH BOY WHERE TO START WITH THIS PILE OF GARBAGE. I've already ranted about this to almost all of my friends and made them watch it with me, but because i'm the only who has played the game, they're all like "Oh well, it's not that bad" and then i'm like "dude... just... go play the game... just go play the damn game..." but anyways, I think you really nailed it on most things I actually hated of this anime, so cheers! I'll be checking more of your content from now on!

The sex was outta place but the dark tone is correct for dragon's dogma also to explain the animation its 1. To cut costs which is why netflix likes to SHIT OUT "anime" like this all the time 2. "Animation studio's" are becoming lazy as all fucking hell

I guess you did not listen about the shows explanation of the cycle. The ultimate point is for an arisen to kill the dragon, not out of selfish desire, but for the sake of others and that it is the right thing to do. Then the cycle is broken. Ethan failed this test, and therefore the cycle continues. Is this as cool as the game? Maybe not, but I think it is servicable. With a bit more dedicated time. Do I think it sucks? As in less than a 3/10? No, not really. Is it really mediocre overall? Yes. Absolutely. Definetly a 5/10 ish type of deal. Flat characters, cool fights, a positively interesting theme, an unconventional not happy go lucky ending, isn't entirely faithful to the game (not that I tend to give a shit about that in most regards, it is an adaption after all.), visuals that aren't bad or good, a mediocre soundtrack. I however actually like the intro, and as the series progresses it is really cool that you kinda undravel it's meaning more and more. I don't think it feels heroic at all, except for the showcase of the monsters part.I particularly like the fact that they show the arisen becoming more and more consumed by the flames as the theme goes on. It mirrors the progression of events in the show in a way that isn't super spoilerly (literally showing major character reveals/tranformations etc.) like other anime intros. I will, however, be perfectly honest and say I am very biased against this style of intro, with no singing and 100% focus on visuals. Tl:dr I wouldn't say "Sucks", more like mediocre and rather bland with a couple of moments of interesting stuff, and a couple more with shit. 5/10

I'd say 8 or 9 out of 10. It looks really good. The pawn thing works like a guardian angel and I'd think IF they did more episodes or seasons, then we'd have a whole story about an character going i to rift to hire them. But that whole thing .akes sense for US in the world of playing game, and could be VERY convoluted in a series to watch. and considering, in game, there are pawns just walking around already, the show did well to have her there, not really visit the rift for the story and even having her walking around afterwards. Makes sense. the ending is different from the game, BUT...MY game the main character is a black dwarf so...shit it was all different lol. nothing wrong with the anime. feels like people are just being negative for only 2 reasons or 3.. 1. "it's not exactly like the game". it's enough like it. it takes the world and the idea...and WE are supposed to understand that WE co tell the game...it'd OUR story. this is ETHAN story. the Ethan without a y of our input. 2. people just think being negative makes them a better critic. 3. piggyback off 2 but for replies. people in comment section who don't like going against what they feel is majority. so even if they sont actually have real negative to say, they'll agree with other people's negatives just to be part of a group. there was honestly nothing wrong with the anime

they had the perfect story to reference an anime on: Ashe's journey from becoming an arisen to a dark arisen. Even with the snippets of lore we get from BBI about Ashe, Grette and Olra, it is already lightyears better than the anime's original story

Personally as someone who played original thing … I dislike the narrative it takes not from game itself but from castelvania , it tries to share “humans are shit” narrative pretty much but when castelvania had somethign more outside of it , this one don’t . Just watched it, and it SUCKED. I only finished it to see if it sucked all the way through, and it did.

I'm a fan of the game. The concept and combat are great but to be honest the story is pretty flat and I could care less. I actually liked the short series and it didn't look cheap to make and the voice acting was really good! I liked how the arisen got darker with each episode. I just think they did a good job with limited space they had to work with. Now you want to talk about messing up a good story look no further then Netflix Berserk.

This show is like the Eragon movie all over again. Pretty good if you don't know the source material But borderline disrespectful if you do know it.

I love Grigori, and Dragon's Dogma, but YOU'RE RIGHT THIS ANIME IS ABSOLUTE SH*T BRO! The fights suck, the dude didn't even get to the seneschal, and forgot about so many dragon's dogma original concepts that should've been added - BUT NOOOOO THEY WANNA MAKE SOME FAKE A*S SAVAN LOOKING ARISEN WHO CAN'T DO HIS JOB CORRECTLY AND THROWS A TANTRUM EVERY 2 SECONDS - NO VOCATION CHANGES, NO FOUR-PERSON PARTY, AND NO DAMN RIFT OR BITTERBLACK. I completely disagree. I think the Battle of the Five Armies is the worst Hobbit movie, not Unexpected Journey. That's the best of the three! Oh but yeah Dragon's Dogma is shit.

I will check out more and consider subscribing Edit: I watched 3 episodes and after where the simp guy goes chadmode and killed his wife only to revert back to simp and kill himself (in under 2min) I had to quit. Even tho I was laughing like hell. P.S castlevania is awesome, third season was a pleasant surprise since expected it to be bad. Alucards arch felt a slow and simultaneously rushed by the end but otherwise I enjoyed it

As someone who watched this anime, I will have to strongly disagree. This show was pretty fucking epic. Probably the 2nd best show I watched that was animated on Netflix. 1. Castlevania 2. Dragon's Dogma 3. Blood of Zeus 4. DotA Dragon's Blood
