I love that there is finally a channel in the guitar community that’s actually talking about real things. If I see another gear demo or another “how to get John Mayer’s (or any other artist for that fact) tone” video I think I’ll snap. Hey Utkarsh, I don't know how to write this in a short sentence but your videos are very important because you deliver these extremely important but also very hard to swallow pills. One of my Jazz teachers was a very old man contemporary of all the Jazz legends from the previous century, he used to say that percussion was a three person job until Ludwig commercialised drum pedals, turning drumming into a one person task and those that did not adapt lost their jobs. I see it as a very early example of what we are experiencing, the biggest difference is that the time it takes to adapt is longer than the time it takes for a new technology to be created, or maybe it's just me and my 76 IQ Millennial brain. What scares me and a lot of people is the loss of value in human creation and life as if we are collectively stuck in the Depression stage of the Five Stages of Grief.

We went from using technology to help us do things better/faster/easier to using technology to do things for us

Back in the 1980’s (and into the early 90’s) a portion of my work as a musician was playing on commercial jingles for advertising purposes. Pretty large amounts of money was being spent on just recording the music for commercials, television shows, movies…etc. I still do some of that work these days but technology has changed that part of the industry drastically. I can’t say for certain that it will permanently replace live musician recording dates but it will certainly continue to thin out the work load.

2 years ago I thought all this creative apocalypse was at least 10 years away, how wrong I was, several graphic designer friends of mine have lost their jobs already. And the AI it's getting better.

I work in engineering. This is a space where mistakes can cause death. I know AI will and probably already is playing a role. Human oversight will be paramount.

Azimov's Law of Robotics must be programmed into every AI on penalty of death for the programmers. "A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law." I would also require all systems to have a true Kill Switch accessible to all humans such a system could harm.

@@ratwynd that’s a little further than I was meaning. I have taken some robotics classes and am familiar with Asimov. I’m thinking more in the realm of an engineering firm having AI create technical drawings (blueprints) with possible mistakes that lead to a catastrophe. From being in this profession so long you start to realize mistakes can be hard to catch.

Theres also a rock and hard place in more people having to leverage only their humanity in a digital marketplace for economic survival. Even worse if it gets to 'black mirror' levels, because all craft, technique and storytelling becomes mimicked and redundant. While some channels have navigated the exposure/privacy minefield to some extent and created a brand. The more one exposes in this environment the more vulnerable they become to unsavory actors. A potentially concerning future economic fork in the road would either be. Do what is cheaper to employ a human than a machine, or become a complete "always on" digital specimen/lab rat to fuel the authenticity of ML models.

Video games went through a lull in the early 80s, because there were too many crap games and not really a way to find out the easy way which were worth purchasing. People lost interest and others wondered if the fad was over. Then the Nintendo Entertainment System released in 1985 and the rest is history. Maybe we’re in a 1983 level lull and someone is about to be the musical version of the NES. That would be exciting!

Here’s another idea for a video. Things one should know before owning multiple guitars. How does one handle all those string changes, maintenance etc? Running cost of maintenance? Insurance? How much play time does each guitar actually get? What is the optimal amount of guitars and when does it cross the threshold?

10 years?? More like 10 months. :-( I'm hoping AI will have to be regulated somehow, but that will only happen if it was responsible for human death/injury, or a political involvement. AI has killed music, art, film, and literature so far.

I went to a Checkers a month ago to get a burger late night after a gig. It was not a person taking my order, it was AI over the speaker. Then a person took my pay and handed me the food. Only 1 person in the restaurant down from 3 to 5... A few McDonald's here use robotics to make good or transfer good products from station to station....

I think you're right. It's not so much that I believe AI will replace humans, because if you think about something like fast food. It would be cheaper to use machines and automate the restaurant. Yet they hire people instead. However, I completely agree that being a content creator is too much effort for not enough reward, if one expects to make money. It's a nice creative outlet. No one pays for music anymore. Or it is the purchase of an album from a longtime established artist. If you're a creative, you cannot escape. So in other words you have to make money whether or not you can monetize your creative work, which most likely will not be possible. I looked into MMM and FIRE. Thank you for the good advice. I'm an older person. I hope I have time to make it work for me.

I keep seeing people talking how AI is kind all BS. That it is good at automating things. But not actually that great at creative things. They are running out of things to train these things on and the more feedback they get the worse they get. AI is the promise to share holders to get investment capital when in fact we are kinda in a technological development plateau. Think IPhone. Hasn’t really improved functionality since iPhone 7 and 3G

I think the iPhone, the gamechanger was the possibilities the App store could do with high speed internet in everyone's hand. AI will do something similar. Btw the example I outlined of reducing a Advertisement production cost from $500K to $50K is no small deal. It will completely change the creative industry

I also read and heard and watched very similar things during the recent month. Albeit these LLMs are much faster in compiling data and generating output, it seems to me as we are still very far away from a singularity or even general AI. Neither is it artificial, nor is it intelligent, it is simply a compile and generate what the data suggests-tech. It cannot create original ideas intentionally and tastefully. It is sort of "estimate mean of humans"-highlight reel. Once this tech is no longer a novelty the content will be everyday noise, not art. And when people call AI-songs "bangers", come on. Its sort of saying mcdonalds is fine dining

" You do realize that its not like the audience is even gonna care if the music they listened to is even AI generated or not. Nobody cared if the singer for example did not actually perform their music live(we seen that with famous singers lip syncing to pre-recorded tracks all the time and nobody cared about that), nobody care if the "live" musician is essentially a cartoon character performing AI music, hell... nobody even cared if fast food and junk food found on the store is low quality, nor do they care that the fashion they see in the fast fashion stores are very low quality and do not last. And things like music for Movies, TV shows, Video Games, and Commercials for example are definitely gonna be replaced by AI generated music as the focus in question is after all, not even supposed to be the music in the first place... for movies, and TV shows it supposed to be the stories, characters and the plot, same goes for Video games but also including gameplay.... and commercials generally focus only on the commercial products... it would make sense that eventually, musicians will not be needed for this process as it will make the process quicker and allow the person behind it(whether its hollywood, video game companies, or those behind commercials) to focus ONLY what they prioritize.

@@joshs.6608You think people will not care at all? Artists lip syncing has never been "ok" with the fans. From a commercial standpoint yes, but from an artistic standpoint no. Of course many people care about what music is in the film if you look at it from another view than business only. No more actors? Humans are story driven in almost everything we do in life. A LOT of people enjoy and want live performances from real people. If you are talking about the ABBA-show that is a very high budget exeption that is not equivalent to real musicians, people know that but watch it as a novelty. When everyone can have this tech in their smartphone it is not going to be as fun or a novelty anymore. AI is hype and until there is actual proven general AI:s only we have is faster and more of less acurate prediction programs that can not produce original content or stories. Without them people are lifeless essentially. What is probably true is that there are a lot of people who want the hype to be real like science fiction, and hence will sponsor this narrative because of stakeholding.

@@ludvanlazarz I mean... you don't even have to look at the fact that Artists have been lip syncing to their songs a lot today to see that people won't care about "authenticity"(and by the way, despite what you said... many of those artist still has a lot of people in concerts anyway despite lip syncing to their own songs)... For example... Many songs today are Autotuned or Melodyned and are quantized to death for example.... and even before that... a lot of the sounds in the 80s such as the Drum Sounds are very much clearly artificial and cannot be replicated in real life, guitars at the time are clearly double tracked... everything is soaked in reverb... snare drum and some times even the rest of the drum are filled with gated reverb and are heavily compressed... everything is layered(either with synthesizers and other things, or are double tracked many times)... and in fact... hair metal songs for example are most notable for being heavily produced... none of these are seen as "authentic and real" but people to this day still listen to these kinds of music anyway. AI music is no exception to this rule. Also you didn't understand how things like music for Movies, TV shows, Video Games, and Commercials for example are definitely gonna be replaced by AI generated music.... let's give you an example... A hypothetical sequel to a Toy Story movie from Disney and Pixar would certainly not be focused on the music as this is not a musical franchise.... the focus is instead... the plot of whatever those living Toys are doing.... so a hypothetical sequel to a Toy Story movie will likely uses AI generated music for those incidental music shown on the film so that Disney can focus more on developing the plot for whatever the toys are doing.

As technologies break down people may have no choice but to revisit past effective methodology...

The frontline isn't music or movies, they're already compromised...the real frontline is comedy...a good comedian needs charisma and personality to work a room and ai can't do that...we need to support antiwoke comedians because they are the ones who can save live performance

The problem is that people believe they are guitar players/ musicans because the purchased an expensive guitar with no skills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They also make videos on how many guitars they have, these have no creativity!!!!!!!!!
