Rory, thank you for having the courage to talk about all the dark stuff so publicly. Honestly. I think when we face the dark stuff and face it together through conversation it sort of builds us all up to a collective resilience to it. Maybe not fully but I think we become definitely more prepared as a result of having talked about it with others. It feels better to not hold it all in and have to bare the weight of the sadness all on your own. I'm a SoCal native and my band has played with your band before and I'll always feel a connection to you guys knowing your from the same hometown. It makes me happy to see you guys grow so gracefully and I wish you all and the people around you nothing but happiness and success. And thank you Craig for having Rory on your show. Great episode! EDIT: I gotta add one thing to this if anyone sees this comment. Check out Gabor Mate's take on chronic illness and the kinds of people who get sick. He talks about the obituaries of people who have died of things like cancer, multiple sclerosis, ALS, etcetera and if you read them, they're always the type of people who were considered great people. They were always people pleasing types or overworked types that sacrificed so much of themselves for other people or people obsessed with perfection. They became that way as a maladaptation due to childhood trauma and the stress caused by living that kind of life is what caused their body to turn against them. That's essentially the theory and I personally completely buy into it as not only someone who has been battling chronic illness myself but has witnessed it in others. Just food for thought.

Losing someone grants you access to an exclusive club that nobody wants to be a part of, but also provides an immediate kinship with others. For anyone who has lost someone, I hope you find peace through the grieving process.

Here in Brazil, until recently, you couldn't bring water into concerts. And if you stood in front of the stage (the VIP area), it was really difficult to stay hydrated - since the vendors couldn't get in to sell their products. So it was quite common for people to spend long periods in the sun and rain without eating or hydrating properly. After the death of a fan who was exposed to the sun for hours to see a famous pop singer perform, the government and promoters mobilized to prevent the situation and now we can get in with water and, especially at festivals, it's common to find supply points.

As much as I love the jokes, fun and general bullshit on this podcast, seeing both of you talk so openly about grief when you barely knew eachother before recording was incredible. After my mom passed I also had the small dreams where I would wake up feeling kinda funky about it but was able to shake it off. Then one night I dreamt that I was in the middle of a clearing in a forest with my mom and we just talked. After our talk she told me she loved me and goodbye. I woke up inconsolable. It felt very real. Mom always loved nature. I don’t know what we face after our last breath, but I hope it’s like my dream.

Inkcarceration 2023, I was watching Slipknot and Rory ended up standing like 6 feet away from me and it took me awhile to notice but the dead giveaway was his escort crew that brought him there. I freaked cuz Dayseeker has been my #1 listened to for awhile now and I tapped his shoulder and just shook his hand and told him that it was a great set and thank you for the incredible music. He was super chill about it and was cool. Didn’t ask for a pic with him because of the exact reason he explained why he doesn’t go anymore and I didn’t want to be the guy to start that and make him uncomfortable. He’s such a chill guy and just a great musician.

Watching him get skinnier and skinnier was shocking and wrecked me. And i too, had many dreams of him after he passed. Most of them were stupid and not very deep. Another artist I have never heard of. Can't wait to dive into their discography. Favorite fucking thing about this podcast. Rory was a great guest. I'm not a spiritual person at all, but that medium story was interesting to hear from a more neutral perspective. I'm not sure I could have been as open. My father has had cancer for awhile now. They gave him six months to live like seven years ago. Dude is to stubborn. Bastard was born in 44' (I was 92') and fuck it if we don't get along. Hearing Rory talked is kinda making me think maybe it might be time to talk to him. Great talk.
