You see that is just the problem. Everyone acts shocked and scolds her, but no one sits down and talks to her and teaches her about how to meet, date, and choose men. Matthew of all people would be so helpful in discussing with her the varying motives of men and how to identify them and how to handle herself socially in difficult situations. She needs friendship and guidance and information, as well as a good scolding!

I remember Matthew did provide some education on that when they were in the club, and to be fair most families do a horrible job of that even today. Rose was honestly incredibly lucky; other than the married man, every one of her love interests have been nothing but kind and sincere, and she ended up with a wonderful man.

I think it boils down to respect. They didnt really think much of her before this so why bother trying to teach her something she should have already been taught? It's easier to scold than sit down with someone and have a heart to heart and you'd only make that much effort for someone you actually respect.

You don't understand. The Russian Mafia is doing everything they can to destroy ordinary people in West-allied countries. The reason America is the illegal drugs capital of the world is because the Russian Mafia & its allies i.e. China, & the Russian Mafia's many drug cartels in the Anericas, & so many of their other co-conspirators worldwide are drowning our people in drug-poison as they work unrelentingly to destroy us. Not only that, the Russian has been embedded in our nation so many decades, they get laws and policies passed that weaken and destroy us. Your children are probably wonderful but our enemies aren't, & arent just attacking our political system but our families as well. You must be told to increase your extended family's chances of survival. My parents, one a retired police officer, all my siblings I was raised with, my doctors, my coworkers, my supervisors when I worked, tried to entrap me. The Russian Mafia, using compromised American law enforcement, entrapped them & sicced them on me. I'm 64. The KGB first attacked me when I was 11. We're in trouble. Please believe me. The Russian Mafia & their allies lie like a rug, have mastwred misdirection. Our nation is hanging on by a thread, the thread is President Biden, his Adm, our security agencies, our military & our security agency's allies. The Russian Mafia intends to install a proKremlin puppet into our Presidency in 11/2024. If we allow them to do that the proKremlin puppet will install a new gov, one owned by the Russian Mafia. If we allow that, we won't be coming back. I'm not exaggerating. Trust your children if they're not compromised by the Russian Mafia. At this time in our history you can't afford to release your children into our species & expect they'll be okay. They won't be okay. Sorry for any typos.

Violet was a respectable married woman when she began having affairs, not a subdeb who hasn't yet been brought out into Society. Until then, the behavior had to be immaculate, or at least the appearance of chastity had to be preserved. Rose can get away with a lot, as the daughter of a marquess, but not beyond a certain point. She doesn't bring a fortune into any marriage she makes, she needs to marry money.

Putting aside values dissonance and even the cultural mindset of the time, it’s always weird to me when people in period pieces worry so much about “reputation“ and “honor“. To be fair, today’s social media environment can cause the same kind of gossip, but it’s really the scale that seems different. These peoples worlds must’ve been extremely small for them to be so concerned about things that to us would seem relatively routine or simple.
