Lycra and road helmets on the trails to make the mtb guys uncomfortable

@letheal that's what I do. Last time the MTB guys asked me what the hell I was doing here with that outfit and that bike 😂 they were wearing full gear and told me to be careful and safe. Honestly the trail was ok and not difficult/dangerous, and I ride pretty safely.
I've always agreed with the single helmet rule, there's only a single time when my road helmet didn't protect me enough and a branch got me in the eyes.. a mtb brim might have helped there. Nice to see all the bikes and smiling faces... well done, as usual DK.
Two helmets for me, a standard MTB style for all rides (road, gravel, mtb) with visor removed, save for really aggressive enduro/downhill, where I switch to a full face helmet.
I don't know how I missed this film 2 weeks ago, but I'm so glad I found it. My life is now complete, all those times I was out on the road and I came across a little bit of gravel, I have lost count of the times I turned around and rode home to get my gravel helmet so I could continue my journey. The technology we have these days is so clever!
Thx for checking in all your mates rides. Love to hear the lowdown on all the steeds - esp. the fixies 🤩

As usual, both entertaining and informative. Thanks again for making the interweb better.
That catlike helmet - a throwback to a different era. I rock a Smith Persist MIPS which has some back of head coverage - it was cheap and it's blaze orange for visibility on trails and in the dark.
editing is amazing, personality is so entertaining
I rode the Full Enchilada wearing my road helmet as usual. Nobody seemed to care. And it worked fine -- possibly because I didn't crash. Then I bought a full coverage helmet for Mt. Lemmon. Good thing, too, because I crashed and landed hard on my face.

I wear a mountain helmet, with a cap, on the road, riding my gravel bike.
I've had one for a year and it's probably the only helmet in 30 years that I would buy the same again. I did find that the peak on a cap just inhibits my vision too much while mountain biking. I keep being way more rubbish than usual and suddenly realized it was because I couldn't see far enough ahead. I have the white and Grey one but that camo is very nice as long as you don't wear any other camo with it.
First, every time I watch one of your videos I remember that I love your editing style. Second, Holy shit that was a big day dude. That normal or you training for something?

Thanks, fun video, great stuff! Re, Helmets and Safety: The worst carry over from pro cycling to the public is all black cycling kit. As an old fart touring and commuting cyclist that has crossed the U.S. three times, riding in and out of shadows makes you almost invisible. Roads without shoulders, and 50% of drivers on cell phones, I suggest a daylight visible rear blinker, with orange, yellow, or neon green kit for clothes. Idea for video, test of the longest lasting rear blinky light, farthest visible unit, most reliable, with best mounting device. Happy trails!

The irony is that if a driver is looking at their phone or another distraction - be it inside or outside. It wouldnt matter what colour clothing you wear or if you were strapped with lights like Dynamo from the Running Man. They will still hit you if they arent paying attention.
Ron is by far my favorite riding companion you show on your videos. I point to his tuber break section and rest my case.
Jon wish, love ya and love your bike. Beautiful tribute story!
Dude, love your stuff! Adding fun to a sad, long, Swedish winter (dang it!).
Great ride, good to see the "Ronster" back!
Tell them to produce sizes above 62 😢 big head here and barely any cool helmets fit
It would be even more versatile if it had a removable visor
That hard visor is how we New England MTB's bat branches out of the way. Especially during Go Anywhere Fat Bike season....Critical piece of kit
Almost bought the same helmet but there is a lot of hunters in my area, so I choosed a more visible one. 😢
Mate, love your star wars inspired MTB helmet paint jobs!
My point of view: 1-Rolling around the city to grab bread: no need for helmet 2-In a dangerous situation? Light full face (Fox Proframe, Kali Invader 2.0) 3-Wanna be aero ? Get a recumbent first, then we'll talk about slick helmets.
I wish helmet companies would put built in mounts for lights & cameras like Kali Protectives. It looks so clean. I use the Amara with out a vizor for all my riding.

I just rock the Specialized Prevail for all the things.
Bell/Girois still owned by the gun and ammunition folks. I would rather not give them more money.
I was recently in the market for a new helmet and wanted one with lots of safety features and originally was set on a Giro, but weeks after ordering it still hadn’t shipped so I cancelled and ordered a Bell from somewhere else. Thoroughly impressed with the quality, looks and features. Hope to never need to test safety. Looks dope & love the helmet in a helmet thing.
Ron with a great Wilhelm Scream
My rationale for having two helmets: one for super sweaty rides and the other for less sweaty city and casual rides. It is _not_ nice to get home from a hard morning bunch ride, take a shower and then have to put the same helmet on again for the ride to work.
what is the brand of your vest ? I love it !!
Uhhh, no thanks on the helmet for MTB. You need a visor to block your buddy's roost! 😀
Fits well. It can be readjusted as per the size. It doesn’t have light.
I lost the front end over wet leaves & mud....happy to report my road helmet wasn't even scratched...I landed on my face.

Inspring vid. Those miles are too big for my winter legs. But seems like a great overnight from my front door!
Anybody know where can I find the style of sunglasses he is wearing at 9:38
I rock the Bontrager Circuit with magnetic mounts for lights because I’m afraid of the dark.
This ride had it all
I do recommend a full face helmet for serious mountain bike rides, park, and close quarters commuters.
That's the same reason i ride with a convertible fullface helmet. When riding mtb i use the fullface and when on road i remove the chin part. They should make a fullface convertible road helmet aswell.
IDK he keeps talking about this helmet but I dont see anything on his head. It must be camouflaged.

Its Mid Toned Magic ;)
I have a Giro Switchblade that wraps further down the back of my head and over the ears that I like to wear - even without the chin bar - while riding rowdier trails (or in the winter... The ear coverage is nice.) For the rest of my riding I wear a smaller half shell from Giro. I find I like having two, as the switchblade is way to heavy for road rides, but I feel much safer riding with it on trails.
@aaron___6014

That's a sweet looking option. Almost looks like a trials motorcycle helmet.
I have two: My Bell Super 3r for offroad (with the chinbar added in bikeparks) and my old MTB helmet (scott stego I think) for on the road. Including the (rather short) visor and everything, with my retro roadbike, unshaved legs and not super tight shirts I'm not going to fit in with that crowd anyway.

I used to just remove the visor before road cycling. Of course that immediately marked me as a road bike Fred to those with actual road bike cred. Likewise I use the same spd pedals on my road bike as my xc mtb. Also a red mark against me... LOL! Look, if the industry can pry twice the money from your wallet they will. Love the interviews! I must not be the only bike geek! Caps, traditionally roady... though I do believe Ritchey wore one back in the day, so who cares. I love those caps.
We need one helmet for each color scheme, right? No. One MIPS helmet in a neutral color, eye protection, and ride. I don't do MTB, so I have no need for a dedicated MTB helmet.
4:38 - as a studied geologist i am happy right now.
You only need one helmet to wear 2 hats underneath…
So is there any reason not to wear a MTB helmet all the time beyond fashion...?

No visor on an MTB helmet….equals…straight to jail, right away. 😂
One helmet can protect your head in a variety of impacts but does that mean it's adequate in all situations? I have two helmets. They have different features. One for my commute to work in a city. It is made to hold flashing lights on my head so I am more visible to auto drivers. The flashing lights on my bike sit lower and aren't as obvious. I don't want to be intimate with 4000 lbs. of steel. I have my road helmet for the open road rides, not the congested in the city traffic rides. I use it for my workouts. It is lighter, has better ventilation and does not hold lights. I haven't tested either for impact protection and hope I never do.
Thanks

To be fair, you have to crash to really test a helmet. I like having a visor when the sun is low on the horizon. Gnar carpet! My La Croix came out my nose. Solid ride - strong work. (C'mon spring!)
