Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Is this the door of the future? New and improved incredible impossible origami folding door version 2.0 made with my new X-CArve Pro CNC! Fit for a video game or gamer. I made an impossible origami kaleidoscope folding door thats lighter, smoother, and more precise than the first impossible origami folding door I made. How did I improve on this origami folding door? Check out the video to find out how I improved on the first version and see the new features I added. Check out the X-CARVE PRO now!

the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. kzread.infoUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.
Still seem to be awkward to use on a daily basis but still cool

Yeah, seems to be missing that "automatically opens" magic. But it's still beautiful. I think the wall that it is attached to could use something… sort of dull and grayish white. Too pedestrian.

This seems to be one of those doors that are easier to use in one direction and not the other. It probably works better works better with that guys outbuilding/garage door because he's not shutting it while inside.
Now you just need the door to open automatically when you swipe 😂
@JonnyBuilds

I wish that was possible. I explored that idea but the problem is the door moves across multiple axis’s as it opens. A simple linear actuator wouldn’t work.
@sylvaind.6786
3 жыл бұрын
@@JonnyBuilds seriously Jonny? A linear actuator would not work? Of course it would! With a gear system on the rods connected to the hinges, and a notched shaft from the actuators. The rods at the top and the bottom have to be actuated at the same time and speed. The linear movement from the actuators is translated into a rotational movement on the gears via a notched shaft. The rotational movement is 180° at the top and -180° at the bottom.

@Enrique Lopez read better then. A linear movement can become a rotational movement through gearing and notched shaft.
I've been in the door, frame, and hardware industry for 13 years and I got to say, this is one of the coolest door designs that I have seen in a long time. Kudos to you, sir!
The robotics nerd in me is thinking... Imagine if it was motorized.... Unlock it and it automatically opens... That would be really neat! Lol

@ChillyDippers

@@blitsriderfield4099 Thought that as well.... then thought about the mechanics of how the door works and realized it was not a trivial problem. Watch how the door swings out each time he opens it..... it isn't a simple linear action.

@Chilly Dippers exactly. Wanted to motorize it but you have movement across multiple planes.

While this definitely seems less heavy than the other version, it seems like it may be a little _too_ light, almost flimsy even. But I'll be damned if that's not still a cool fucking door 😅 Incredible job, Jonny. Don't worry, that perfect balance, the magic ratio of weight and ease-of-use is still out there lol, and you'll find it one day. In the meantime, I agree with many of the other comments. Motorizing the door would make it _FAR_ more easy to use, and take 'awkward two-handed multi-step opening and closing' out of the equation entirely.
@sketchyAnalogies

I dont think it is a weight issue, but rather a rigidity issue. Perhaps carbon fiber or fiberglass would provide the low weight and high rigidity needed
@Jhaiisiin

Cutting out so much material to make room for the acrylic panels looked cool, but took away from the over all strength I think. I have the same worry that it may be too flimsy and break several months later.
@CLove511
2 жыл бұрын
There was no reason to carve actual holes where the acrylic sits. Should have just inlaid and called it a day.
I think I might have gone with a three hinge set-up on the larger pieces, or maybe explored using piano hinges. I say this because with all of the counter forces involved in the opening and closing, it looks as though those hinges might get stressed over time. And piano hinges might make for a smoother operation.
I probably would have been too stubborn to accept the metal door was too heavy and welded a steel frame for it
@3nertia
3 жыл бұрын
I really think the metal door looked better and I too would've just replaced the frame to cope with the weight lol
15:29 "And I created a template for the..." Actually, you created a guide. A template would be what you'd create so that others could duplicate or modify your design. I wasn't surprised that the frame didn't hold the metal door, and I really like this new design! I hope it'll last! I wish you'd put a piece of wood over each hinge so they don't disrupt the visual appeal.
Imagine if these were the doors of the future, shipping them would be really easy
@DanielRBW
3 жыл бұрын
There's hardly an issue with shipping normal doors. People wouldn't use these for specifically the reasons he built this version. It's cool, but not particularly functional in comparison to a normal door. It's lightweight, so you can break through it easily. It looks insane, so it would be a target for burglars. Doors are how they are because they work.
I love it when a talented maker decides to just wing it.

Beautiful build. Nicely done.
Love the epic intro! This concept is even cooler the second time! Great stuff as always bud! And no comment would be complete without a random wing it statement!
thank`s for doing hard work for 2 samples of this door. That`s what i`m searching for. And that CNC mashine awesome.......
That’s just amazing!! I’d be a little afraid of the pinch potential. But dang, never seen anything like this! So creative, thanks for sharing this!
Jonny, this is very cool! Amazing work 😃
The 'That's what she said' joke got you a subscription. The door was freaking awesome.
As far as I’m concerned your sit are an absolute genius I’ve watched a few of your things just recently subscribed and your joinery is amazing, this door was a clever idea does t matter if the first one didn’t work at mast you tried. Keep it up
Wing it! What a cool design! Thank you for sharing! I watched this video in the Inventables website. I've being eyeing the X-Carve Pro but my business is not ready for this machine.
I never seen anyone wing it better than you Jonny ( said in the most endearing terms :))
Love the Art Deco vibe !
Wowsers that is completely crazy project. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend keep making
Really cool Jonny, awesome work! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Wing it!!! Awesome build, love it! That design on the door trim too, reminds me of Star Wars! 😁😁😁
For version three, you could add a round track to the backside of the large triangles. Then there could be followers attached to the doorframe riding in those tracks. Might help to keep the system stable
Very cool!
I love the evolution door. Need to build myself one.
Pretty fantastic work, dude!!! It looks beautiful! Much better now! 😃 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

now, you need to add the linear actuator so the opening and closing is automatic. as you approach the door with your RFID ring the door opens for you. Awesome concept and build. thanks!

Wing it? Nah, you and that sweet X-Carve conquered it. Nice work Dr. Build! 😁
This door is way cooler than the first try. Congrats! 👍
yeah baby very cool and retro
Okay, who smiled too, when the monitor popped out of the box hehehehehe You keep amazing me, you are truly one of kind, excellent ! I have just one remark: Since you put in so much time (and money) I would have taking those hinges apart and powder coated them in the color of the wood so they would not stand out so much (almost look invisible) But the result is amazing. Thanks for sharing and I love to watch you do your MAGIC !!
Wing it.... Love your channel bud. Keep moving forward
Now just add a bar to the door knob that automatically opens and closes it, cause opening and closing it manualy looks clunky. Great BUILD!
nice build and mechanically very cool. great to see someone else build it and put it together because i would never want to deal with a door that opens that awkwardly in my own space haha
Really cool door. I'm definitely in the camp of this being somewhat of a gimmick - but a cool gimmick nevertheless! A lot seems to ride on the connection between that bushing and the wood. Do you think epoxy is gonna cut it? I'd have been tempted to make that connection more mechanical in its contact. Let us know how it goes!
Winged it mate 👍. Looks cooler than the older one!
Wingit, Jonny! Good job, as always. Cheeers
The use of white will give it a sogi screen effect. Cool. Love my red so I'd do that too. 👍🏻🇺🇲♥️
So cool
love it. Is there a better way to open door from inside?
“Wing it!!”
Awesome video!!! 🇲🇽
Nice changes to the door. Wing it!
Curious: what is the weight difference between the two doors?
Looks like you were inspired by the shape of a Tie-fighter. A quick paint job, and there it basically is.
Nice Door !
I think a double door implementation would look sick. Especially if a chain or rack at the top tied the rotation of the upper pivot points together.
Could you wrangle some sort of spring-load or tensioned cord to fully "open" the door without you having to help it into the fully-open position??
Looks great. Motors on door frame hinges to open automatically should be a easy up grade. It would make the action perfectly smooth
Awesome!

I am in ❤❤❤ with that door. Forget the negative comments. Let their talent speak. Let them make the damned door better, since they all seem to be polygon door experts!!
Would love to have this as 2 doors that replace a garage door and fit together. Would need rubber to meet in middle and door sweeps... would be big but awesome...
That would look sick as a double door
'wing it'!! You definitely didn't! But it was cool to watch you put it together!!
i need more professor builds in my life
awesome door, but you can tell it lacks structure from the way it sags and flexes when opening causing what looks like a small amount of binding. I'd think some steel support rods as cross braces would help stiffen it up and smooth out the motion
I had a perfectly straight and square door once.....but it made the whole house look crooked!

Wing It! Love the video and the work 👍🏻
awesome, i watched the whole thing, not a fan of the music, but its a great project done so well, very cool CNC machine. But something is missing, the door only partly opens and you have to lift it and mess with it. No doubt very cool and you did such a great job; maybe the pins should be spring loaded? so it goes to open and doesnt just stop in the middle?
Did you think about making a metal door frame?
Bro your a beast.....I'm a carpenter by trade. I love making custom stuff and you got me thinking about just forking over the loot for a x-carve pro this year. 8k really isn't that bad considering what you can make with it. You could easily make that back with a couple of custom jobs priced right. This door alone id charge some $$ for. I live on Long Island NY. The right customer would throw w.e at you for this type of custom work. The money is deff out there
It kind of looks like it needs curved guide rails on the edges of the big triangle for a smooth open. Like the video.
Subscribed, belled and winged it! Very nicely done.

"wing it" another great video
Great Blake's Seven vibes! Or Firefly?
That's cool, but its a bit shaky and I would worry about breaking the fulcrum since its made of wood. I would honestly just worry about breaking the whole thing since its clearly a door you have to use a lot.
Could totally see this on an “x-wing” it
Wing it! Nice work man! It turned out great! Let me ask you: How about the shop remodeling using Husky workbenchs and tool chests?
What if you added a rail/track & rollers on the middle corners (the ones that stay next to the wall)? Could lend some comfort-of-use and stability to that back end of the door.
Listen regardless of the perfect execution, we are still watching you create something, instead of you watching us, keep up the pursuit of your vision thumbs up😊😊😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
