    the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. kzread.infoUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

    I wish that was possible. I explored that idea but the problem is the door moves across multiple axis’s as it opens. A simple linear actuator wouldn’t work.

  • @sylvaind.6786

    @sylvaind.6786

    @@JonnyBuilds seriously Jonny? A linear actuator would not work? Of course it would! With a gear system on the rods connected to the hinges, and a notched shaft from the actuators. The rods at the top and the bottom have to be actuated at the same time and speed. The linear movement from the actuators is translated into a rotational movement on the gears via a notched shaft. The rotational movement is 180° at the top and -180° at the bottom.

    While this definitely seems less heavy than the other version, it seems like it may be a little _too_ light, almost flimsy even. But I'll be damned if that's not still a cool fucking door 😅 Incredible job, Jonny. Don't worry, that perfect balance, the magic ratio of weight and ease-of-use is still out there lol, and you'll find it one day. In the meantime, I agree with many of the other comments. Motorizing the door would make it _FAR_ more easy to use, and take 'awkward two-handed multi-step opening and closing' out of the equation entirely.

    I think I might have gone with a three hinge set-up on the larger pieces, or maybe explored using piano hinges. I say this because with all of the counter forces involved in the opening and closing, it looks as though those hinges might get stressed over time. And piano hinges might make for a smoother operation.

I wish you'd put a piece of wood over each hinge so they don't disrupt the visual appeal.

    There's hardly an issue with shipping normal doors. People wouldn't use these for specifically the reasons he built this version. It's cool, but not particularly functional in comparison to a normal door. It's lightweight, so you can break through it easily. It looks insane, so it would be a target for burglars. Doors are how they are because they work.
