@Roth Asta Aren't telephone landlines separate from the power grid, though? Like, they'd just need to cut the phone lines as well, so they might as well leave the lights on. And I don't see the point of keeping the quarantined people from knowing what's going on outside since the whole point is that they're trapped in one location and pretty much expected to die.

Fun fact: In a self-defense class I took in college, the teacher actually suggested that you bite, if you’re able- it’s so rarely done, so unexpected, there’s a good chance you can shock your attacker into inaction, and try to run. Like, there are higher priority techniques (kicking in crotch, kneeing in stomach, headbutting or elbowing the solar plexis, etc) but I always found the suggestion kinda funny.

I remember reading in my Self defense class that becoming more “animalistic can actually cause hesitation in your opponent. I espoused if they are of a normal mental capacity as they begin to wonder if your mentally stable or potentially sick with something and the body may react to that giving you the opening to escape or finish the fight. But we were always taught fighting is last ditch. And if a fight happens it’s a fight for your life di anything to escape or subdue or potentially end the threat

I had the rabies shots due to a goat on my childhood farm contracting the disease from infected bats, although I wasn't bitten by the goat it did salivate and vomit on me and I had several open wounds. Anyway, only one or two of the shots is administered in the stomach, the rest are deep muscle shots, generally given in the thighs or buttocks. From what with I recall the deep muscle shots were actually more painful surprisingly enough.

Quarantine 2 was one of the first horror films I watched and was definitely my first zombie/outbreak movie. I must’ve been eleven or twelve, didn’t pick up on any of the whole doomsday cult plot, and ended up with nightmares for days. Now cults, contagions, and zombies are easily some of my favorite horror features. I’d long since forgotten the name of this film and what had happened in it, just vague bits and pieces of it and the restless sleep I had in my friend’s loft following watching it while she snored away, but clearly it left more of an impact than I knew.

Don’t listen to the naysayers. They’re just being selfish. The plot summaries are important for viewers who haven’t seen what you’re covering, or have but forgot too much. I always appreciate when a channel does this because it gives context to the later discussions. Giving skip times is also a good way for people who don’t want to see the summary to not have to sit through it. I think you’re doing pretty well, so keep up the good work.

First of all: excellent dissection of and speculation regarding the science, as always. Love your work, this included. I couldn't disagree more in the comparison between Quarantine and REC, though. For a breakdown like this Quarantine actually tried to have scientific cohesion and so does work better, sure, but REC was a superior film; also REC2 at least had a meaningful relationship to the first film's consequences. Here's the thing: Zombie movies are at base, have always been, and present cultural value primarily through their metaphorical relationship to reality. REC talks about the infectious, contagious nature of evil and how a failure to engage with it, especially on its own terms, can spread though a population in insidious ways. Quarantine is some odd, mad science version of Thanos' utilitarianism-for-dummies which I guess is arguing that we should be afraid of scientists? Not that y'all ain't scary, but I worry more about the evil that men do each day than I do about conspiratorial inventions for population control.

The virus seems to affect serotonin levels. The character with parkinson's was able to move after infection, and one way to treat parkinson's is by dosing them with serotonin. If someone overdoses with these kinds of meds, it manifests as something similar to schizophrenia, basically unhinging them until the meds wear off. if you got a virus that blocks serotonin uptake or just makes the neurons go spill them out more, you'll get something similar to that... There's also serotonin syndrome, which can manifest as agitation, anxiety, disorentation, restlessness, and exitement. these could add up to the agression and weird behaviors exhibited by the infected. Could be just a hunch though, otherwise i dunno how that old guy would be able to move aside from it being movie magic.

So long story short it's more like a thing organism rather than a plague it came from aliens and the aliens change the DNA sequence of the creatures it infects to make their physical bodies more like weapons that's why they use blood from the maidens or virgins to sedate it as humans are generally not as violent as say a wolf the hunters are given a small dose of the beast blood so they can fight on the level of a beast during the hunt and them dying results in the parasite or virus taking over and changing them hence the boss phases so for instance father gascoigne hes human in the beginning dies pretty much then the beast blood takes over making him far more deadly than that of a human

Great episode! Rabies is one of those things I've done a lot of reading on because I think it is fascinating. I am not a healthcare professional in way, shape, or form. Just a few comments. In humans, rabies is more likely to take weeks, as opposed to days. Also, a very small group (maybe 14? Found different information on different sites) have survived rabies after it has manifested symptoms. The treatment they went through is called the Milwaukee Protocol. Of course, that still makes rabies at least 99.999% fatal. It's really weird as nature usually doesn't make diseases that are 100% fatal. It's a fascinating subject. Anyway, great episode. I love the Quarantine (and REC) movies and think the rabies angle on the Quarantine movies makes more sense than the demonic enzyme of the REC movies.

I love how no matter what reason rabies gets spliced to make the zombie virus, the zombies always become olympic star athletes. I'd love one movie to come out where they do that, but instead they just trip over themselves and shit and fart themselves until they die.

Yeah There Is one I'm assuming this is the only zombie movie that doesn't have rabies to start a Zombie virus. So basically When someone dies they come Back (I don't remember it clear) But they become deformed and now everyone is a Prick to you It's a short Horror I guess And it's Okay.

I’d assume that such a film would focus less on the “action”/“horror” aspects of a zombie apocalypse, and more on the “tragedy”/“drama” of a pandemic/medical-drama story. As examples, the reactions to the outbreaks in Contagion & Maggie & Cargo, in which the non-infected are definitely horrified about what’s happening to their loved ones, but the infected themselves also have to deal with their imminent mortality & the progressive loss of cognitive functions that precedes it.

That’s probably due to the adrenaline and everything else going through them driving them mad. Your body has a lot of built in inhibitors for things like strength so you don’t damage yourself, turn those off and you could very easily rip another human apart.

Great video but I completely disagree with humans not biting as a form of defense. It's incredibly common that bites ect happen in a struggle, yeah we have evolved away from physical confrontation overall but biting is still definitely one of the primary ways a person defends themselves. I might be wrong but I work in aged/ disability care and dementia patients/other mentally ill patients and some of the patients prone to violent outbursts are known to be "biters". It's definitely more a desperation/survival tactic and we're more likely to want to keep things at least an arms length away but when push comes to shove in a life or death scenario our bite force and teeth aren't anything to stick your nose up at.

He was just saying that it's not our go to. The people infected go for biting immediately and that's just not how humans defend or attack usually. Like in a fight your instinct is not going to be to bite. It's not out of the question but humans will absolutely try most other things first.

While a Human bite contains a surprising amount of tremendous crushing power (In terms of raw force, more than a Pitbull and almost on par with a German Shepherd!!), something which most people don't actually know, there is a reason why it's not typically used in fights. The Human jaw, being relatively small, isn't really that adept at easily and reliably grabbing things without said thing slipping out of grasp of your teeth, because hey, you need to grab something in your jaw before you can actually bite it

  • @googleit1131

The problem is we aren't biologically equipped to be "biters". Yes, people can (and do) bite, but our anatomy is much more focused on us using our hands and feet to cause damage (usually through objects and weapons). Most people wouldn't run face first into an attack to bite someone. We usually start with fists and feet, but if all else fails or the hands and feet are restrained in some way, teeth are a good backup. All that to say, biting is typically a last resort or secondary option to the much more effective limbs

21:29 We call those Rollers at the plant I work at. They come as either part of the line for moving boxes toward the pallets, or on tables for inspections. They pretty much just let boxes and baggage roll, with places to detach for maintenance on replacing the roller disks, hence why it folds up like that
