I think that in doom 2016, mick gordon had a lot of enthusiasm and some neat ideas like riffs combined with glitch stuff and special contextual music "engine", but not really clear vision about how doom music should sound. Thats why the majority of 2016's ost is just an ost rather than actual music. In eternal he used all the ideas he developed for 2016, but in this time, he was completely sure what to do. Thats why eternal has pleanty of actual music that you can listen on daily basis, like the only thing they fear is you, cultist base, super gore nest (especially as fan rework), meathook, bfg 10k, you name it.

I really, really like the Andrew Hulshult's work since the very first Doom soundtrack he put on Soundcloud ages ago that got everyone's attention. But I really am sad Gordon won't be involved in the projects from now on - the man is like the Beethoven of Doom music, a rare literal genius. I wish they'd just have them collaborate so Hulshult can help keep the project on track time wise and Gordon can still get some bangers in there.

You're nuts for putting 2016 in A and Eternal in S. 2016 had more memorable tracks than Eternal. They at the very least deserve to be both on S

the game rips may be lower quality but damn they really make the music sound a lot cooler. they give it that extra bass feel that everyone’s always been wanting ever since doom 2016 came out. you know, since doom 2016 also had some really really good bass too

I freakin love the music by BOBBY PRINCE. OPENING TO HELL has a John WILLIAMS JAWS vibe to it . Aubrey Hodges also did the music for PLAYSTATION DOOM which came out in 1995 . Thanks for the video 🙂

Doom's soundtrack are amazing. Doom 1 and 2 had awesome homages to metal soundtracks while also making some of their own songs for the games. Doom 64 had an creepy ost with ''songs'' like breakdown. Doom 3 had the same vibe. 2016 and eternal is were people usually say that its the best ID has made, though if I had my opinion Quake 2 has the best soundtrack ID has made.

I have listened to Immora (aka Headstomp) super heavy fighting more time than I can count. The double bass David Levy used for that track is so heavy and crunchy it could destroy neutron stars. Man had the best drums of any DOOM track, I think, in that one. Perfect heavy metal clusterfuck type of song to close out one of the best FPS games ever made.

Immora might not have been as punishingly brutal or as lengthy as we wanted, the Dark Lord was disappointing, but I think the ending where Doomguy says "NO." and how it wraps up the story was great. Not to mention that opening battle and the environment overall are GORGEOUS. Also, Immora WAS hard when it wanted to be...those two buffed marauders with the barons kicked my ASS...

I actually think that there are tier S+ osts: they are in TNT Evilution: Final Doom. Is there a reason why you didn't show them? I find it difficult to not mention Into the Beast's Belly or Death Bells for example. To not mention Legion of The Lost and other pretty cool ones.

Yeah, I feel like this list doesn't take the role of the soundtracks into account. 64's OST is perfect for the overall tone of the game, but that gets glossed over. 3's main theme is a banger. Both 2016 and Eternal are linked to gameplay intrinsically, and the overall "synths bad" vibe of the vid is pretty uninformed considering a lot of them were Bethesdas direction in 2016

i was looking up the best doom songs for myself and was pleasantly surprised to find your video and how much we agreed on the the list the only differnce was i placed doom 3 above 64 because i prefer doom 3's main theme to 64's. Although it makes sense that these game have bad soundtracks compared to other entires as both wanted to be horror games, i wouldnt feel scared if i heard BFG division blasing in my ears.

Dude the intro song to TAG1 has one of the best drops in metal that I've ever heard. It's almost on par with The Only Thing They Fear to me.

Eternal’s original main menu and Cultust Base are some of my favorites but the entirety of Immora is probably my favorite in the entire series. That double bass pedal gets me hype every time I hear it

I remember having my dad listened to the Doom 2016 soundtrack and he instantly put it in his playlist

In DooM the player faces massive creatures from Hell, lives through horror itself while trying to survive and escape the base and then Hell. In DooM II, the player is far used to the situation and is a bit more "relaxed" than he was during the first encounter. And takes revenge instead of trying to survive. I think the OST resembles that quite well. Whether it was intentional from idSoftware or not.

While it isn’t an official release, I am curious where the OST for Sigil would rank.

I've got a different list for my personal tiers, but I agree with you on most of what you said. S: 2016 A: Doom, Doom Eternal B: TAG1, TAG2 C: Doom 2 D: Doom 64, Doom 3 F: None I give the OG Doom an A tier over an S tier, specifically because while it set the bar for Doom music to come, it didn't quite age as well as I'd have liked it to. Eternal got an A Tier over S because it just wasn't quite as impactful as 2016. TAG1&2 were B tier because while they kicked ass, they just didn't stand up against Mick's writing from 2016 or Eternal. Doom 2 sits in C Tier, because it just wasn't memorable at all compared to Doom. and I completely agree with you on 64 and Doom 3
