I wanna point out, the song that plays from the car radio is dubbed "The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet". It was played on a German radio station once in the mid 80s and that's all anyone knows about it. No title, artist, label, etc has ever been found. Some people have speculated that it comes from another dimension/reality.

About the "theory" that the book "House of Leaves" IS the house itself, it's less a theory and more of an unspoken truth. Remember what set the Navidsons spiraling into madness? It was when they used super-accurate laser measuring and found out their house was 1/4th an inch larger on the interior wall than the exterior. Now, look at the book. The front cover is 1/4th an inch shorter than the pages within.

What the actual hell? I’ve owned the book for 20 years, and couldn’t even make a guess as to how many times I’ve read it. Yet, while I obviously know that the cover is shorter, I never made the connection that it’s 1/4 of an inch shorter. I have always tried (sometimes unsuccessfully) to stay away from internet theories. I revisit *House* every few years, and usually develop a new theory (or add to one of my existing ones). Edit: Looking at it now, there’s even a picture of a damn ruler that’s visibly protruding from under the cover. 😂

as a graphic designer, house of leaves blows me the fuck away and i aspire to be as good as the author who designed it. this BLOWS ME AWAY HOLY SHIT. I haven't even finished the book, im only a 3rd of the way there, but I was wondering why the cover was always shorter than the rest of the book and that it was a pseudo dust cover jacket as well. because its both 1/4th short and can extend past its limits. fucking. wow.

So this is before watching your video in whole, but I have watched other people cover this here is my theory. I believe Tom and Steve were a gay couple but neither is the author. Its pretty obvious that they were married as everything in the map leads to this. Now why do I think neither are the author well thats because they are both dead you can find their obituaries in the game news paper articles talking about how they are both having a funeral at the same place at the same time both having a spouce mentioned in the paper but neither being stated to be survived by that spouse. I believe Tom died in a car crash thats why we see the car crash in the woods after hearing the news Steve ended it as he couldn't go on. Now about the baby crib and stuff I believe this has to do with the author more specifically I believe the author loved Steve but was female and with Steve being gay and in love with Tom it would never work out, Steve and Tom wanted a child so the author offered to carry a child to term with for them but the child didn't make it. Through grief, guilt, and pain, the author still desperately wanted to be with Steve and started to take medication to under a go transgender change we can understand this due to the bathroom in the airport and the bathroom signs changing after you take the pills. Also Tom didn't die immediately in the car crash as implied he made it to a gas station where he called for help and was rushed to the hospital but he died there you can tell this when you go to the hospital he's the person that flat lined. The reason why I think there are three characters that this mod is about, and why the Author loves Steve specifically is because the author keeps referring to their friend not friends passing away if the author knew Steve and Steve and Tom were married it would go to assume that the Author knew Tom as well but its hinted at in Journals and other things in the game that when they talk about their friend they are talking about Steve. The author hated Tom for taking Steve away from them. This is my theory based off of what we know.

I think it's because the map was done as a way for her husband to cope with the divorce. Wouldn't surprise me if all these different areas we see through the map are memories the two shared---embittered by dissapointment as this chapter of their lives comes to a close. That said, I think that saying "so much for the love messages" is a bit cynical. To me, it reads more like a testament to the love they once felt. It's been immortalized in some way through this map. "We really did love each other. We genuinely thought we could make it work, and even if we were wrong, I never want to forget that we tried"

the creators had a hard-on for the House of Leaves novel which is what the mod is based on, as for the backstory I'd say it was all fabricated to build hype, and I'm sure their true identities are very experienced and well-known doom modders who collaborated in this mega-effort. You don't just create something like this as an amateur modder on the fly.

As someone who's read "House of Leaves", the idea of Will Navidson owning a realty company is hilarious. It's like Kratos from God of War I leading an anger management class.

Damn this video is surprisingly powerful. The subject matter is profound of course, but the narration elevates it greatly. This is genuinely one of my favourite videos I've seen in recent memory.

This is literally one of the best videos I’ve seen in a while- the “happiness must be fought for” made me sit up and go “no way- a horror game that wants you to… not be sad?” That spoke to me deeply- as someone who has struggled hard with medical depression and anxiety- it’s so easy to try and pretend that the fake beach is happiness and that we have to accept that this is the way it will always be Really and truly thank you for making such a fantastic video, really this has been the highlight of my day

This didn’t make me sad, until the end, being called out so hard filled me with emotion, I don’t call for help and I drown silently, I avoid effort and I am terrified of needing help. I feel I would fall prey to the desperation and fear, but too stubborn to ask, for help.

Life is really hard dude, and unfortunately, the way our minds work is that we only seem to ask for help as a last option. We feel like it's wrong for us to go to others with our problems, but it's so much worse to try to keep everything to ourselves. I totally feel you on the avoiding effort front. It's been a long journey for me to actually do anything with my life. There are 3 pieces of advice that really changed my life: 1. Aim up, no matter what. By setting good goals for your life, you accept direction into your life. Without direction, no amount of effort can bring about change. 2. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing poorly. If it's worth it to drink 64 ounces of water a day, it's also good to drink a glass of water a day. If it's worth making it to class on time, it's worth it to show up late. Just getting 1% or even 0.01% better each day is better than nothing at all! 3. Don't feel like you have to want the things other people tell you to want. For me, I didn't realize until after college that I didn't really care about having a degree. I just wanted to get some work done, and I was already equipped with the skills I needed to learn. Some people end up working hard at careers they don't care about when what they really wanted was to stay home and raise a family. It's important to be in tune with yourself and your emotions so that you can really figure out where you want your life to go. Anyway, I don't know if these will be helpful to you, but they were to me, so I wanted to share. I hope you have a good day, and thank you for your comment :D

No kidding! It is a simple but powerful statement. Happiness doesn't just come with contentness it requires effort, it has to be fought for.

You uploaded this like 5 minutes before I sat down to do some class work, I tried to put it on as background noise while I was working (like I do for most video essays). Then 15 minutes in I got distracted with the “crushingly difficult challenge mode where you have to complete the level while blinded by you’re own tears” forgot what I was doing, then proceeded to watch the entire video all the way through. This was a phenomenal video, and I’m glad I took a “short” break from my class work to watch this lol

I had never heard of this game (I wasn’t really a doom player), but this video so far has been fantastic. I love these type of horror games. It’s such an eerie feeling and yet, it’s like you can’t stop digging. I’m only 10 minutes into the video and I’m so invested. So fantastic work to the creature of My House, and fantastic work to you for such an awesome video. Like I said, only 10 minutes in and I am so fully invested. As much as I found the hospital scene genuinely gripping and captivating, I also appreciate the small, subtle bit of humor in how one of Player's first actions after 1:14:10 entertaining the possibility that they died... is to 1:14:29 try to get a soft drink and a snack.

Here's another secret: if you go to the attic in the normal world after you release the Mirrorvile, you can actually see it in the mirror staring back at you. Also your size changes between the two versions of the game. In the "intended" release you're much smaller. Kinda like the different rooms in the brutalist house

It is a new type of horror we haven’t seen before. Seeing a gameplay of Doom that is modded into a horror type game is so interesting. We hope there is more games likes these and more mods that are scary. Also keep up the good work on explaining the whole story and lore behind this mod. There's a few mods across various games that are starting to show a very interesting personal kind of horror. There is a SM64 mod B3313 I think that's the correct number. But it's kind of similar, a seemingly never ending experience that almost seems to change as you progress with subtle scary details. (Though it does have one hilarious jump scare)

I handle the production myself for the most part. My wife was a huge help with the extremely lengthy scripting process for Vita Carnis Explained, though, and I'm tremendously grateful to her for that. These last two scripts combined would nearly equal the length of a short novel---about 28,000 words and almost 100 pages, so having help with that is, as you can imagine, very appreciated haha I love that the sort of character I was playing came through to you so clearly---I had no idea whether or not that would translate, but it really seems like it resonated with at least a few of you, and that's all I ever wanted haha I really love the whole process of doing this. From research to production to publication, each step is uniquely motivating and enjoyable. I've been blessed with a lot of time and opportunities to learn the necessary skills to put these together, and I'm really excited to continue putting that all to use to serve you guys. I’ve been going through an incredibly rough patch in my life. I really wished to give up, I wanted to. I was heartbroken-I still am-at some personal things that happened recently. I have watched videos and analyses about ‘My House’ and it quickly became one of my favorites. That was before I could find major relatability in it as well. This video has made me feel hopeful, I suppose. Life’s kicked me down pretty much… all the time. There’s definitely relatability in that aspect, but also the relatability of feeling as if I’m circling around the same loop in different settings all the time as well. ‘Happiness must be fought for’ stuck with me and stuck with me hard. I’ve been alone all of my life. I still feel like I am despite still having friends and people who love me. I choose to face things alone. I choose to because I hate screaming for help for nobody to come, for people to actively ignore me-or even worse-make me a spectacle. That’s what happens. My problems are my own, in my opinion, and I still choose to face things alone despite my knowing that it’s destroying me. I don’t deny that I need help, I know I do, but I cannot receive it. Once more, that’s just how life is and has been for me. Don’t think this makes you opening up any less useful. In fact, you sharing your testimony on loneliness and depression means a lot. I feel alone right now. I think I always will, and it’s okay for right now. I was, as (sort of) stated previously, I’ve seen videos on this previously, but this offered some new insights on certain things. The loops, coming back to loneliness and being alone, feeling disappointed by giving up, My House as a general. It’s new to me and it’s meaningful as well. The possibility for hope, happiness, love, etc. isn’t necessarily new, but it definitely stands out this time around consuming content around My House. The fact that love, indeed, is real. So is happiness. So is everything. Loneliness, despair, anguish, desperation, and more are real as well, but it’s important to fight for happiness. You AREN’T alone. You ARE loved. You are REAL. And it is OKAY to feel those ways, but it is NOT okay to give in to the despair, sadness, desperation, and loneliness. There’s always something out there worth fighting for. If you cannot find it outwardly, you need to find it within. It will not be easy, it never will, but the reward is worth it. It’s going to be worth it. You just have to get up and fight. You have to fight for yourself, if not for you, fighting for everyone else and everyTHING else. And even if you aren’t fighting for anyone or anything, you’re still fighting. You still are fighting. You still are you. You still **are**. You just are. You’ll end up on the real beach, the sun gently gracing your skin, waves cascading before you, and seagulls making noise above. Y'know i don't know if i'd call MyHouse a horror experience. It can be spooky, but it's also an oddly hopeful experience. It's purpose isn't to scare or terrify you, it's to tell a story, both yours and the creator's. And in the end it does that. You fight for your happiness, and you get it, and the creator's story also gets told. In the end, after a lot of hardship, everyone prevails. So i wouldn't call it a horror experience. But i don't know what to categorize it as.

It definitely doesn't just go for one thing, it tried to create a variety of tones and emotions. I still think it can be called horror, it still very much plays like a horror game and it's made to be confusing. Stuff like the bloody bathroom just wouldn't fit into another genre.

this isn't a video this is a whole experience and an emotional roller coaster holy shit i'm amazed. the way the tone of the vid switches from being cold and disturbing to funny to emotional is insane omg. i didn't expect a horror game explanation to get me in my feels lol but i geniuenely appreciate the part where you open up to the viewer and that "grief is the ultimate isolator" line really hit deep. your videos are top tier istg. i'm litteraly using your vids as a reward system, i get some school work done, i watch one

I've watched several vidyas on this, and I have to say, yours is just brilliant. The way you presented it was so touching and personal. You're the first I've seen come to the conclusion that the two characters could be the parallel versions of each other. I teared up watching this. You did such an amazing job presenting everything and tying it together, especially the way you included the hospital scene. I also hadn't seen anyone get to the backrooms without noclip. Not gonna lie, this is one of my favorite videos on MyHouse; I could fire up a few paragraphs alone about your ideas on the “reflections” present, and elaborate on some of the things you pointed out (or didn’t)… But I don’t know if you’re really here for a college essay in the comments section, so I’ll just gush about one thing: your composition and storytelling of the entire thing, from first House to the final Fight, was phenomenal. I was quickly invested in you and “Me” as characters playing the map, but my favorite but is just that little extra at the end made me invested enough to want to see you-and “Me”-not only keep fighting, but *winning*. You’re the only person I’ve seen narratively place the Hospital section during the Fight for Happiness, as most people just stumbled upon it earlier and assumed it was just a reference to the Car Crash dream. And, now that I’ve seen it done, I absolutely *cannot* unsee it, because it’s just so damn narratively good. Most play throughs I’ve seen involve people dancing past the enemies to get to the Campsite, because the number of enemies present is too much unless you’ve nabbed the BFG and are well-stocked on ammo; instead, you stuck your ground, fighting by plasma, rocket, shell, and chainsaw until death tries to take you, and you said “No.” And then you went back at it again…you fought for your Happiness, and it was amazing to watch.

Bro drop the college essay lol, I don't typically watch other people's analysis before doing videos like these so I'd love to hear about some stuff I missed XD. I did watch an analysis for this one of course, but I specifically went with a different theory because it's boring to always hear the same ones lol I really had a challenge set out for me to begin with because PowerPak's video on this map is one of the most incredible things I've ever seen on YT. I was so inspired by it and yet... How could I make anything even *remotely* similar without making it the same? At the very least, any way I made it different seemed like I would really just making his video worse. I realized I needed to take some risks---to make some choices that might ruin the video---on the hope that I might end up with something I'd personally never seen before. I wanted to make you feel like a part of the story---to recreate that sense that the narrative was scrambling to find its way into our reality. That also meant taking away my own sense of narratorly omniscience. I'm supposed to be in control of things, but here I am, even more lost and confused that the player haha. The hospital scene was the logical conclusion of that idea---letting the narrator slip out of the story entirely, before the whole thing crashes back together in a climax of corpses. Anyway, all this to say that I'm really glad you enjoyed it lol Your comment along with several others have been so motivating. I spent months agonizing over this video---trying to make sure that these ideas made it across to the viewer rather than being stuck in my head---with no promise that anyone would see what I saw in it. It's such a rush to read comments that are practically quoting thoughts that I had weeks ago. It gives me a lot of hope for where I might be able to take this channel with a bit of perseverance, and some reasonable breaks haha

@@crowmudgeon Well, you sure sold me on your narrative! Believe me, I’ve watched several dives into MyHouse, including PowerPak’s, and I think you provided a breath of fresh air with it. A lot of people do try to wrap their head around the narrative, all analyzing, dissecting, and processing the oddities within the map and Google Drive, but honestly I think you’re the first person to point out that, by playing the map, WE are now a part of the story. Like, it always bugged me how the dreams in the Journal aren’t translated 1:1 in-game, such as the drowning dream: instead of sinking down, being pulled up by an invisible force, and emerging in a cavern of some kind, we instead push ourselves up, wade through the House, and end up in some Poolroom section. Likewise, the Daycare dream doesn’t feature Shrek, nor do we encounter any crying stillborns. However, when you factor the *player* into the narrative, it all suddenly clicks: of course these “dreams” aren’t the same, because we’re encountering them *after* the Journal Writer did(I am absolutely unsure if that’s Steve, so I’ll not refer to them as that). I didn’t even think of this until you pointed out the car: it’s outside the Brutalist House, the Airport, the Daycare, and both version of the Gas Station…almost as if someone else has been to these places before us. If we give in to dream logic, it’s certainly a possibility that the cars represent the presence of someone, or the idea that someone has transitioned or journeyed in some way from one place to the next. Speaking of transitions…there’s one big elephant that everyone has to point out: the Airport bathroom sequence, and what it means. Grabbing pills after fighting off monsters in the women’s bathroom, which has its sign swapped with the men’s bathroom after you nab the pills (or fight the demons, I can’t remember the exact trigger)? It certainly says something that nothing else in MyHouse does, and I would be hesitant to say it…however, there’s one detail that a whole lot of people miss or ignore. When you go into the men’s bathroom, regardless of whether it’s before or after the events of the women’s bathroom, you can stumbled across a stall where the toilet isn’t filled with water, but instead with blood. Again, I don’t want to outright say it, as a cis dude and all that, but all of that combined with the location(an airport) being a transitional space, along with the fact that you have to take a dangerous flight all alone, ending finally with a leap of faith that…returns you to the house, safe and sound in a bed? Well, the only thing I don’t want to speculate on is whether or not it’s Steve or Thomas, but that’s because it’s quite possible we have a third person involved here anyway if the Obituaries are to be believed. Now, to change gears a little, I really want to dive into another concept you introduced to the narrative that, in retrospect, should’ve been damn obvious, and yet I swear your the first person I’ve seen formulate the idea: Reflections, or more specifically, how different things in MyHouse as a whole can mirror each other. One that I caught(that maybe you didn’t mention on purpose) was the Dogs in the Brutalist House…I’m not entirely sure if they’re the *same* dog anymore, but instead are actually Reflections. My reasoning is that both dogs die, regardless of whichever one you go after; while this would make sense if you go after the Bad Dog, since it’s supposed to be from a child’s perspective, it doesn’t make so much sense if you off the Good Dog. The Good Dog is the adult perspective version, the one you would see after growing up; killing it shouldn’t affect the existence of the “previous” iteration, because time and continuity and all that. However, if they’re reflections of one another…then perhaps we maybe have an understanding as to why Steve and Thomas share so much in common, up to and including the end of their lives. The Dogs are reflections of each other, just as Steve and Thomas were…and when one dies, so does the other. Perhaps like Steve and Thomas? I’ll admit, it’s a little flimsier than my previous point: after all, one of the sketches in the Google Drive is of the Bad Dog, and one of the photos of the house in the Drive shows that a dog lives with the family, though I can’t remember of the top of my head whether it’s a German Shepard or not. Anyway, the Drive points to the idea that the dog Thomas’ family had did indeed scare him as a child, leading to his imaginations of the Bad Dog as an adult. Still, the linking of the two could still be a reference to reflecting each other, just not in the same way as it’s implied elsewhere. Finally, I want to mention something I was curious about; you specifically didn’t mention the origins of the Gas Station, namely that the journal author had a dream about it, nor that there’s a photo in the Google Drive of a Shell station sign with the words “Unknown-Stopped for Directions” underneath it. In fact, speaking of that Station, there’s quite a bit of curious things going on there. Firstly, while it’s not the only location to feature a Mirrored version, it is the only one whose Mirror is quite different to its normal form. The Mirrored second House, and the Mirrored Underhalls map, are both fairly “normal” aside from their flipped assets; however, the Station’s Mirrored version is actually a grislier place to go, with the car present at the station and what is clearly a crime scene going on inside, given the blood splattered anywhere. To be honest, even the regular Station’s setup is a little fascinating: it’s the one Dream area that’s almost 100% a recreation of the dream it’s based off of. We locate the crashed car, follow the authors bloody footprints the the station, and find nobody there, as if we just missed the author getting into the cab and leaving for the hospital. This is personally another reason I love that you put the Hospital bit during the final moments you’re at the regular Station, as it reflects(pun intended) how the authors dream ends with them calling a cab, and being taken from the Station to the Hospital. You know, speaking of the Dreams, I really think that it’s strange that the Station is the only one to have a Reflection at all; your can’t burn the Mirrored House down, there are no Mirrored Dogs to deal with, you can’t flood the Mirrored House, Mirror Shrek is thankfully a non-entity, and you don’t have to board a Mirror plane to leave Home or something. And that’s all fine and dandy, I suppose, and it and the Dream itself apparently arose from an actual location someone encountered, as evidenced by the photo, so maybe that’s all there is to it. It just seems odd, and I don’t have the neurons to figure out why. While I’m here, there are two other things beating my neurons in a battle of wits: ƨllɒʜяɘbnU itself, and the sketchbook drawing of the Blue Keycard. Firstly, while fact you can go through ƨllɒʜяɘbnU after leaving the Mirrored House is both funny and thematic(given that beating Underhalls sends you back to the House and that, thusly, beating ƨllɒʜяɘbnU sends you back to the Mirrord House), it’s also…kinda pointless? Beating ƨllɒʜяɘbnU means you arrive at the Mirrored House, which is a reflection of the second iteration of the House; this means you lose the keycards from the first iteration, including the Blue Keycard you’d need to nab the plasma rifle from the Brutalist House. I’m not sure if the keys are used anywhere else in the map, but I’m more confused as to why a location like the House, which doesn’t want us to leave and constantly mirrors its layout in other places, would allow us to play an entirely-mirrored Map02 just to laugh at us when we return to the Mirrored House? And I’m just as confused about the Blue Key sketch; it’s clear that the three sketches are of important things, as we have the Bad Dog, the Blue Key, and the House sketched out(note that it’s the second iteration of the House, as it has the angled roof that allows for the attic space…don’t know what that means though, as older Doom maps were limited with the geometry they could use thanks to the engine, so the first iteration could actually be a “limited by OG Doom” map). Since these are Thomas’ sketches, it makes sense that the Bad Dog and the House are here, but…why, of all things, the Blue Key? There’s got to be something with it, since out of three sketches it’s the ONLY colored one. Sadly, I’ve got nothing here beyond that. Edit: one thing I actually did forget…what’s the deal with the Campsite!? It literally just is there, no journal entries, no photos or sketches, nothing. Its impossible to even speculate about because there’s no information to use. And…that’s everything I can think of, for now. Honestly, after all this, I don’t think you missed a ton; you said yourself that this map has a lot of red herrings, and maybe some of this essay is exactly that. I just love to think and stew lmao

So, it’s ya boi again, back because I enjoyed the video so much that I wanted to watch it all over again…and something else might’ve just clicked for me. You make a couple of good points towards the end of the video that started this thought process: you emphasized the mirroring between Steve and Thomas, and you mention how “My House” isn’t the same as “Your House,” while also mentioning the journal dream entry where Steve presses through the mirror. Soooooo, wild thought: MyHouse is essentially Thomas’ house, at least in its basic forms, right? So…what if the Mirror House is actually Steve’s? Firstly, there’s the daycare dream, where Steve mentions the crib in the attic; you point out that it doesn’t make sense, given that the crib is in the Mirror House, and he doesn’t have the mirror dream until months later. However, if the Mirror House is actually Steve’s House, then of course he would know about the crib upstairs in his own home! Speaking of the mirror dream, what’s interesting is that Steve never mentions the mirror in the attic at all, despite the fact it exists in both Houses. But if you go back to the way he describes the dream, and compare it to the Cheat Text mentioning the mirror in the attic, they don’t line up: the Cheat Text implies a fear of what’s behind the mirror, leading to it being covered up “just to be safe,” whereas Steve embraces the mirror and even becomes the one winking back. My thoughts on this are the Cheat Text is from Thomas’ perspective: when Steve pushes through the mirror and winks back at “himself”, he actually winks back at Thomas, who then does what the Cheat Text says and covers the mirror in the attic, “just to be safe.” This might actually explain why all the Dream Houses exist as extensions of Thomas’ House: because they’re Steven’s dreams, they can’t exist as a part of “his” House, and therefore exist on the other side of the mirror. Doesn’t quite explain the Gas Station, though it is also the only other place we ever see real imagery of, so perhaps that dream is as much anchored in both realities as it is fantasy?? EDIT: …I should really finish videos before I do thinking 🤣 five minutes after I stopped to think, you started spelling it out pretty much like I’d thought of it, because I’m a dumb-dumb and forgot this part of the video after watching it three weeks ago 🤣 nevermind, carry on!

I've seen people ask, "are video games art?" Well, this mod, of a 30 year old game about slaying demons, is absolutely art. It certianly deserves a Cacoaward.

So I'll be honest and admit I wasnt a fan on the psuedo roleplay going on, but I love this video for what is mostly a small segment in the later areas. When you talk about *your* experience. Thats huge, and something not a lot of people do. People find patterns and hints in the art and craft a story that suits it, which sure you did, but you also told us that the art made you feel, and why. I really like that. I think its infinitely more important to talk about why an art piece made you feel a certain way, than to try and explain it away with a story.

as someone who has been obsessed with MyHouse.WAD and has dealt with some really bad depression, this was a fantastic analysis and video. Your final take away from the map was very insightful, and connected to me a lot since I've been fighting an uphill battle against my own grief, guilt, and depression. I think your video perfectly illustrated the feeling of fighting for your happiness

There were a couple things about the video that set me off early on (not commenting on how Shrek vanishes after you go through the daycare hallway the first time, for instance), but when you reached the ending of the ingame content and there was still 20 minutes of video I knew this would have to be the best MyHouse video out there. This interpretation is by far my favorite to date, collecting all of the distractions and red herrings together to an extent that no one else has managed.

Yeah, there were certain details I opted not to draw attention to throughout the video because I wanted to really focus on creating a well paced narrative. This way, my video can exist in an ecosystem. Lots of people will watch multiple videos on the map, and this way, they can enjoy all of them a bit more. New things in every one :)

the way you set out this whole video like a narrator and a main character really let my imagination run while imagining everything from a 3rd person perspective. it really drove what you were saying into my head and made me genuinely think as i let my imagination run, and my immersion was at its highest. i really liked the way you did it! overall, very enjoyable video.

I had never heard of you before, I literally was introduced to Vita Caris through your explained video that was randomly recommended to me. Obviously I'm one person among now thousands, but your really do deserve this. I've played this map. This? The first half was like playing it all over. Im only halfway through the analysis, but I got a little overwhelmed and had to stop to write this. @@crowmudgeon For my thoughts on the second half; I wish I had more to say than quiet, understanding agreement on the second half. As a writer and artist, I kind of struggle with the idea that writing and art are subjective. I absolutely have a certain way that I draw and write my stuff to be interpreted. But I think after giving it all a moment to sink in, I feel like that's part of what made the first half feel like a whole new experience. Because it *was.* I was seeing your experience, instead of mine. Your view of the story, on loneliness and the necessity for community, wasn't something I ever got. As someone who's had to fight grief on my own, I had a notably different reaction to it(something I won't throw onto you, I don't have the proper medium nor brain power to explain THAT bag of cats). But I think this has honestly given me a new insight into the idea of subjective media and it's strange and kinda comforting, in a way, I guess.

I, honestly, clicked on this video expecting horror in the physical, rather than psychological sense. However, I don’t say that in disappointment. I thoroughly enjoyed this video, and the humor you sprinkled in helped keep it light-hearted enough for me (a horror lightweight) to not feel like I’ll have fears of demons, bathtubs, etc for the next week. The psychological, heck even philosophical angle this video took towards the end was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. I love food for thought like this, it gives me something to focus my erratic mind on for a bit. The tone shifts as well; during analysis, comedy, and interactions with the player were executed phenomenally, and never felt forced. Basically, all of this is to say: Thank you. Thanks for this video, and thanks for shedding your own light on this mod. I.. Actually wouldn’t have heard about it otherwise. Though I may never get around to playing the mod myself, the way you presented it was glorious.

i usually just play long videos like this to have noise while i play sims , i’ve never really listened to any of them but with you i just HAD to stop and listen and talk along with you, it felt like i was with a pal chitchatting,this is such a well thought out phenomenal video and i’m so confused how i haven’t found you sooner

I just watched the liminal park video and now this one and I must say, I’m super impressed by how you’re telling these stories. I love how in the liminal vid you interacted with the text like they were there and all that - I thought that was super creative, and now you’re interacting with another entity appearing to control the character of the game, complete with head shakes for responses and everything. I would’ve expected it to have just been gameplay footage and not you making it part of the story you’re telling. Fucking amazing dude. Have my like, subscription, and notification bell. Also, my comment box is haunted here. As a lifelong aspiring writer, this is amazing. So glad I found this. Wish I could do something like this

Thanks dude! I really appreciate that :) You can definitely do it! A few lessons I've learned that have been helpful: 1. Make *something* even if it isn't perfect (it never will be) 2. Focus on storytelling rather than writing individual paragraphs. This will direct your writing based on what your story (and your reader) needs, rather than what we as writers instinctively want to do---write a LOT. 3. Having a lot of good ideas isn't very important. What IS important is learning to accept when a good idea no longer fits the story. When you take a good story and cut all the "pretty good" parts, you're left with only the *best* parts. 4. Develop some sort of personal methodology or style for storytelling. My style is built on three pillars: repetition, a three act structure, and the returning home part of the Hero's Journey. Trying to do these 3 things has helped me to put together better stories, even if I don't always apply them super well. I'll also point you to some good resources that have helped me to grow as a writer. The first and biggest one is Brandon Sanderson's lectures on writing. They're available for free on KZread and are both edifying and entertaining. Next up is a newer channel I've been watching called Writing with Andrew. His work covers much more atomic and abstract topics, but they're all very practical and applicable. I particularly enjoyed his recent video on Scene and Summary. Hope this helps out some!

for the hour and 44 minutes you spoke, i feel like i was hypnotised. you explained this and narrated the video so wonderfully, i was completely captivated in all honesty. the sense of grief, loss, hope and loss of it in this game is astounding, and you managed to communicate that so wonderfully. the way you, and the game, interact to the audience provided such an insane thought provoking video im actually speechless. i cant wait to see more from you man, this was an actual masterpiece of a video, and im so glad i saw it, and so amazed that you captured my attention like this, thank you!

What’s interesting is that even though it’s an action game it’s also a horror game to, if you think about it, if you were stuck on mars and in hell fighting demons for hours at a time, it would be pretty scary

i don't know if i'd call my house a horror game, it's not scary, and qith the end and all that, i think it's... oddly hopeful? It has a satisfying ending. You fought for your happiness and you got it, finally.

Great video, The huge amount of effort you've put into this, the editing, the script, the bits of humour to help break the tension. This style, an evolution of the analysis of a horror series, something of a guided tour, but more, building on the material you're covering, its something I didn't know I was looking for until I found this, this is the IDEAL way for people who are too scared to experience internet horror first-hand. Truly an achievement, and I get a sense that you've really found your niche as a creator. Just excellent work

For some reason the only thing that actually made me almost cry in this was the way you said 'and you're not alone' and showed the fucking dog. Jesus man. What a masterpiece of a video. You really work hard to make your videos on subjects feel like a reflection OF the subject itself. I really really respect that.

I happened upon your Vita Carnis video and now this and I'm really impressed. Your narration as a 'character' going through it with the 'player' was not only very creative but perfect for a project like this. I am absolutely subscribing, I love the type of content you're putting out.

been listening to this while sitting on the floor going through some old storage crates of mine that hit me with nostalgia, but also reminders of the depression i dealt with for some four or five years in my late teens/early 20s before i finally had the sense and strength to seek professional help. what hit me the most was you saying that down there you hate hope itself. this. a hatred of finding a way out and feeling better. it's what makes it so treacherous to fight. i clambered up from the floor and to my pc before autoplay could kick in because you deserve a like, subscribe and this comment where i also want to tell you that this was a great analysis, documentary and piece of entertainment.

This is only the 2nd video I've seen from you, and I already love your style of narration and storytelling - even if you're just going over a DOOM WAD. Listening to you talk about Tom and Steven's two worlds reminded me a lot of the idea presented by Bioshock Infinite. Constants and variables.

That makes me really happy! I LOVE Bioshock and it's been a big inspiration to me over the years. Some of my earliest writing projects that I REALLY cared about were about Bioshock Infinite.

Amazing job! I have already watched multiple videos about and breakdowns of My house but this one was hands down the most well executed, engaging and personal one! I've watched a few videos of yours prior to this but I never truly realized how small your channel still is, because your production value is really good and your scripts make you seem like a very competent and perhaps seasoned (script) writer. I wish you best of luck in growing your audience as well as in all aspects of your life, keep going strong and be proud of your work! (and at the same time I hope you give yourself enough breaks and keep an eye on your mental health, I personally find it really easy to burn out if I experience a lot of success in an area where I already have high standards for myself)

Wow that is some extremely high praise haha, there are some absolutely BANGIN' MyHouse.WAD videos out here. PowerPak's vid in particular was super inspirational for me, so I knew I had to make a pretty radical departure from his to get something good yet original. Risks had to be taken and I wasn't sure at all that they would pay off in the end. I'm happy with it for sure though. It's thoroughly *me*, I think, if that makes sense. This script was certainly my favorite thing I've written---complete and cohesive in a way I've never achieved before. I have a decent amount of experience writing, though my list of completed works is very short lol. More than most and less than very many. It makes me really happy to hear that the script resonated with you :D Thanks so much for your viewership, it means the world!

This video is beautiful. Your narration, the writing, it’s phenomenal. I binge video essay/analysis content, like an unhealthy amount, and this is one of the best I’ve seen in recent memory. You are incredibly talented, I’m so glad I discovered your work!

I've been dying for a video on MyHouse.WAD. Such a capitivating project, and I love how you make/edit your videos. There's a fine line to toe when using memes in horror analyses and you absolutely nailed it. Sidenote, I think the water monster/ghost reference actually harkens further back than the Back rooms. It really reminds me of the water demon in Amnesia. Love how horror projects refer back to each other - there's a solid line of literary motifs in this genre.

i love how immersive your videos are, i just finished watching your vita carnis one and you talk about these subjects like it's a world we truly live in. Loving the content, it's great to have on in the background as i'm drawing!

Honestly for years I tried going at it alone... I tried claiming I was ok. At 17 I finally hit rock bottom in a metaphorical pit I felt none would help me out of. I sent out my voice from that dark pit... And those friends I had once helped out of it helped me out as well. This is why I'll always hold my friends so close. Without them... That metaphorical pit would have been a quite literal grave. It's been almost 10 years at this point and I still continue to help keep my friends out of that pit the best I can. And to call out when I feel I'm about to fall back in.
