For me. Capaldi is the definitive incarnation of the Doctor. Whilst I became a fan during Tennants run, I began my transition at the beginning of Capadi’s run. Ten was my deadname’s doctor. Twelve was MY doctor.

Twelve is a good person, he's just not necessarily always a nice person. That's a key character trait that I love about him, partially because I see a lot of that in myself. I absolutely adore the development of the character across Capaldi's tenure, culminating in his speech to the two Masters, which you've covered. From "am I a good man?" to becoming, at the end, quite possibly the Doctoriest Doctor that ever Doctored. You said it yourself in the video. What we see in the Series 10 finale is everything the character is and should be, and why Twelve will forever be my Doctor. To any actor who is going to take the role for the next couple of decades to come, *take note of these two episodes.*

Agree with 100% of this. Twelve’s speech to Missy and the Master is my favorite Doctors speech of all time. Much like Gandolf’s “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us” bit, they are words of comfort and conviction when time’s get difficult.

Capaldi is my new Who Doctor. His run was uneven, but when they got it right, it was magic. So many good moments in this story. One of my faves: "It doesn't matter where I choose to stand, but where I choose to fall." and yes, the 'Do you want to know why I do this?' speech is a perfect bit of writing/acting, and also a perfect encapsulation of who the Doctor is and should be.

I haven’t even watched the video but you are correct (as usual). This is the doctor at peak moral dilemma. The doctor is someone who can be stuck between a rock and a hard place and still find a soft landing for someone, if not everyone. Capaldi sells both the complexity and simplicity of the character so well. Excellent pick! Thanks for the video!

So in the lead up to the 60th Anniversary, Doctor Who Magazine did a poll where all stories in Doctor Who history where ranked worst to best (they did a similar think for the 50th Anniversary). "World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls" finished 2nd overall, above the likes of "Caves of Androzani", "Genesis of the Daleks" and "Blink". While I wouldn't go that far to call it better than Androzani or Genesis it is clear that this story overall is regarded as one the best stories Doctor Who has ever done. Though hilariously it isn't regarded as the best Capaldi story in that list as "Heaven Sent" finished number 1 overall of all Doctor Who stories. It does say something that Capaldi's era has aged even better as time has gone on, and that it gets more and more fans as time goes on.

"It's not because it works, because it hardly ever does" I feel this. I deal with a ton of issues in my life (depression, gender dysphoria, social issues, possibly undiagnosed ADHD or autism, etc) and lots of times it can all feel like too much, "what's the point in even trying when I keep on failing?", stuff like that. But maybe I should be taking the view that anything is worthwhile to do, no matter the outcome. Not because it works, but because you tried. Trying and failing being better than never trying at all. And you won't know what you will succeed at, unless you try lots of different things. Obviously easier said than done when I'm in the dark recesses of depression. But it's a nice personal philosophy to strive towards.

I hope that in the future my nieces, nephews, niblings are still able to watch it cus you bet that Auntie Lucy is gonna sit down with them and show them this beautiful magical wonderful show that means so much to her. I hope they dream of having that big blue box appearing on their street. I hope that they have THEIR Doctor who means so much to them and that they connect with them. Absolutely 100% agree. If I'm pressed to pick a favorite episode I will always pick the Doctor Falls because there are SO MANY great things about it but in particular you hit the nail on the head with how well this episode embodies who the Doctor is and should be. I think part of the crux is that there's never any mystery of how the Doctor will die/regenerate. The tenth doctor had an excellent but an extensive debate on why should he die? Why can't he live? Why must he always die and be a hero for people like Wilf? And I feel like this episode is the perfect response: why does winning matter? Isn't it enough to save someone? There's never really a dilemma for the Doctor, it's just a given because it's who they are. And that speech in particular is my favorite just because it's statements of purpose over and over again until we're just left with "Just kind." The entire episode is truly just a masterclass in writing, acting, and directing. (side note but re: the queer/trans reading of 12: this episode specifically gave me the courage to accept myself as trans and I had no idea at the time why 12's character resonated so much with my transness and queerness. Like I finished watching the episode in tears and then immediately wrote a journal entry where I called myself trans for the first time and it's fascinating to analyze the queerness of 12's era in retrospect and why it resonated so much with so many people so thanks for giving me a bit more to think about

Scottish Doctors always hit the high marks. Capaldi and McCoy are amazing. If history is any indicator, Ncuti will be similarly brilliant, fantastic and molto bene! It’s truly amazing to me that every single actor is able to capture that spark that Capaldi embodies in this episode. There’s never been an actor in the part that I haven’t been able to see the spark of doctory kindness in, and that’s the most amazing part to me. No matter who’s face is frowned upon them, the Doctor is always there passing through and helping. Here’s to another 60 years. I for one can’t wait for the specials tomorrow. The show’s future looks bright, and I can’t wait to be here for it.

Thank you for the video, Vera! And happy Doctor Who anniversary for everybody! Despite not being my favorite incarnation, I really love how the Twelfth Doctor (portrayed by Peter Capaldi) has an entire character arc during his tenure. In this run, the Doctor finally confronts his own darkness and tries to understand who he is (at least, the current incarnation). As Vera explained, the core aspect of wanting to help people, regardless the odds, out of kindness, it is really important to the character. And considering how regeneration still represents the death of the current incarnation and they become a new person (despite being tecnically the same body and keeping the memories), the grief and refusal over it is very justifiable. Similar interpretation could also be applied to the then Master's incarnation, Missy (portrayed by Michelle Gomez). She finally decided to stand beside her best friend at the end, but she could not do it so. And the Doctor was not (and probably never will be) aware about that, what is really sad.

Best Doctor, and imo all 3 of his final 3 episodes are the best final adventures any Doctor has ever gotten. I think this one gets a bit overshadowed in the discussion by World Enough and Time--similar to Heaven Sent vs Hell Bent but with far less divisiveness--but it is every bit as good and it's raised the bar to a level I'll be surprised to see surpassed.

Series 10 for me is the TOP TIER series run of episodes the show will have , Series 5 I'd argue also ... Series 6,8 and 9 are up there and love Flux and 12 are great ...but everything in series 10 is the standard of the show that needs to be reached... The way Moff in his final year pushed his creative beats to its ultimate best and this finale is harrowing the Cybermen are my fave monsters and this is them at such a peak ...series 12 close behind ... It's a fascinating study of character and scale in a beautiful way ... I was an emotional mess when this aired ... Classic 💙💙 in a way the show won't ever be again

There's an idea I had to save the Missy arc and timeless trial nonsense. We need a story where the Missy is saved by that agency, and they think she's the doctor and save her. That's the cold open. The story has Gatwa's doc find out that Missy has been going around, trying to do good deeds and calling herself Doctor Who. It gets hinted that At Sacha was a much earlier master. So we can have past masters turn up. At the end of Missy regenerates into Jo Martin's. It can also be implied that the Master is the timeless child, setting us back to no prequel docs and explaining how the Master keeps dodging death.

I know the 12th Doctor is a bit inconsistent in terms of writing & even writing quality, but Peter Capaldi is probably my favorite actor to ever play the Doctor in NuWho. Dude has freaking range

Ok I went to the playlist and showed some love for the others at last. One thing though, there are only 9 vids, it says "2 unavailable videos are hidden" making me think somebody got a copyright ding or something. Maybe you should tell them? I have no idea who they were. My list shows Daniel Rawlings for 16 seconds, Vacuum of Comments for 16 min, Tom Mason for 8 min, Television and Other Rantings for 4 min, The Whoniversals for 8 min, Smalledd for 12 min, Shobogan Who for 11 min, Nicholas Payne for 11 min, and then you for 18. Just FYI.

Heaven Sent might be the best Capaldi episode, but he is indeed the best Doctor in The Doctor Falls. Great video and I now need to learn that beautiful "kind"-speech by heart!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Capaldi is the best actor to play the Doctor. That doesn’t make him my favourite, necessarily, but purely based on his talent, Capaldi is the best actor to play the role (outside of like, John Hurt, but he doesn’t really count in my opinion.)

The twelfth doctor has one of my least favorite companions for 2/3 of his time, and yet he’s my favorite doctor (pushing out the fifth). This episode, indeed, embodies why.

I actually liked Twelve in Series 8 because it was so different. I usually prefer more warmth and emotion in shows but found Series 8 refreshingly different.

Confession time: I think The Doctor Falls is the better story over World and Time Enough. Not that I don't appreciate the latter's tragic ending or Michelle Gomez just killing it in every scene; but the former is just so... emotive. The Doctor's resolve to save Bill and the entirety of Floor 507,, their sacrifice towards the end of the episode, taking down all the Cybermen with them (I refer to every Doctor with they/them pronouns btw), their pain and sadness as they're clinging onto hope in the face of their own death. It's Capaldi's best performance on the series, and seals why not only why I think his era is so underrated, but why he's my favourite Doctor alongside Tennant.

Capaldi is my second favorite doctor with Matt as my favorite doctor but I feel he didn’t get a fair shake with season 8 cause to be it feels like a season intended for Matt but he didn’t stay for it so they just gave it to capaldi as it was and told him to act more like Matt’s doctor that’s why he bounces around like Matt in the season with season nine and ten he got to be his own doctor Vern though I feel 9 shouldn’t have been a season of 2 parters 10 was peak capaldi with seasons nine and ten the got how to write for him and did it so well like the zygon speech the kind speech from the doctor falls for example the doctor has always liked helping other cause it even got him exiled to earth when his people the timelords put him through the war games then forced him to regenerate then serve his exile and even then he still helped where he could even though he couldn’t leave earth the the timelords have a rule that they are not supposed to interfere with other planets and civilization and he has broken the rule countless times over by this point
