@@jimmyjasi-anti-descartes7088 Long story short Japan Self Defense Forces is the extension of the police force. Therefore we only take defensive action against threats. But as rapid modernization taking place in the counties in the Orient, debates are going on whether we can protect our self with only defensive military equipment. Why this debate is going on forever because no-one really can define the word 'threat' It is pity that the first responders men and women's life is not assured clearly in the current Japan.

@@jimmyjasi-anti-descartes7088 About Shinto there are many different viewpoints whether 'State' Shinto existed or not. Shinto is something like a mixture of cultural heritage and religion so it's hard to say that it is the same as the word 'religion' in English. Therefore even if General MacArthur tried to dismantle so called State Shinto it is nearly impossible due to the strong cultural bond between the Japanese and Shinto this is because Shinto is more like a support for moralvalues and it never deny other religions there are many Japanese who practice Christianity but use Shinto as to support them. I mean you can tell these things by going to shrines during new years most of the shrines in Japan are crowded with people. And there is a very big misunderstanding in the western world which I really want to make this clear that throughout history Emperor himself was never a God/Kami yes it is said to be that he's the descendant of Amaterasu. However this doesn't mean that he's a god. He's a God 'like' Human (this is why he have lifespan like us) this is clearly stated in the Kojiki one of the oldest book in Japan telling and explaining about Shinto, so called monarchy etc based on myths. There are cases after the Emperor dies he becomes a God/Kami but this is same for normal civilians too for example Yasukuni-shrines and Togo-shrine. As many of you wonder what is the job/task of Emperor. His job/task is to pray to God/Kami for good health for the people and good harvest etc.

My father was wounded by a Kamikaze on October 25, 1944, during The Battle Of Leyte Gulf. Does anyone know from what airfield that attack came from?? I found a photo (from the Smithsonian) of the actual hit of the aircraft next to my father's ship, U.S.S. Marcus Island.
