The disastrous defeat of Manny Pacquiao

Спорт

Manny Pacquiao became a real sensation of those years. At the beginning of his career, he was just one of many champions. He was unknown to the general public for a long time. After “Pac-Man” began working with Freddie Roach and literally destroyed the IBF world lightweight champion - Lehlohonolo Ledwaba, they started talking about him seriously...

    Erik ‘The Terrible’ Morales is one of my all-time favorite boxers. No one had more heart in my opinion. His two wins against Barrera (he won the first two. I won’t watch the third because I found out he lost beforehand and I’m still mad over the 2nd match). His “loss” against Maidana, a man 10 years his junior. Some of the greatest matches in boxing. Truly he is one of the greats AND the ONLY one to beat Manny Pacquiao on U.S. soil. I hope more people will go back and watch his fights and give him his flowers.

    I encourage any one who doubts this win based off these clips to watch the full fight. In these clips Manny looks to be throwing a bunch of combos but Morales always threw them right back and was dominating the entire time. AND the last round, much to Roy Jones astonishment and chagrin, Erik switched to South Paw with Pacquiao, JUST to show him he could box head-up with him too. And boy, did they go to war and still… The Terrible was left standing. It was the icing on the cake.

    Ok so Morales did his homework and was technically ready for Pacman's strategy the first time but Manny learned his lesson and did his homework on that for the next encounters and didn't allow that to happen again.

  • @1Deep43VA

    @1Deep43VA

    7 ай бұрын

    @@ManOgwaR I don’t know. I don’t like how you worded this. You sound as if you’re begrudgingly admitting he won. I think it was more than just technical and strategy, he out punched him and decided to box him at his own level in the last round. It was a win on every level. Obviously I’m bias, but it sounds like you are too. Either way, yes, Manny came back and defeated him twice. I’ve looked it over (haven’t watched them) and it looks like he overwhelmingly won those fights. I won’t take that away from him. I think I was just in awe of the performance when I wrote this comment. And also, Erik The Terrible is never mentioned when it comes to the Greats, so I wanted to remind everyone that this man is the only one to beat Manny on foreign soil. He deserves to be talked about. But it’s undeniable that Pac-Man is one of the Greatest of All-Time. But everyone knows that. He’s always talked about (and no doubt he deserves it). I do wish that he had been able to fight Mayweather sooner, while in his prime. I think he would’ve been THEE one to knock him the fxck out. I also wish he had been Adrien Broner’s ass more than he did. Like Maidana did.

    For me, this isn't a disastrous defeat of anybody but a war of attrition between 2 boxing champions who are both the toughest warriors in their own right. Morales' heart is just there for all to see - super tough and super strong, head to head with Manny all the way - he is human yet super human; Manny makes me feel proud as an Asian for everything he is - love the man too. Bros, this is boxing at some of its best. There are no defeats at this level, only a celebratory win for boxing at its very finest. It's anaemic to say who "won" or "lost". Hats off to both champions and a deep healthy respect for them.

    I honestly think if Morales was in better shape during that 1st fight he could have and would have stopped Pacquiao. I know this video only shows a small part of the full fight BUT if you watch the full fight you’ll see that Morales was taking ALL of Pacquiao’s combo’s and then returning with superior power.. OR Morales would just throw a counter straight right hand that would land & interrupt PAC-MAN’s combo’s. But that was mainly happening during the first 5-7 rounds, and that is why i say if he was able to keep that pace and timing and power in the 2nd half of the fight combined with the jab, then Morales in my opinion could have got the TKO or KO.

His management agreed that Pacquiao had to use the same gloves as Erik's. The brand Winning that had more protection unlike Reyes. Be it psychological or not, using Reyes in my opinion made the difference between the 1st and the 2nd fight.

    Any time it goes to the cards the interference of money and nationality plays a part. Who is worth more to promoters to win . Now I'm not saying it was so in this contest at all but it is always a factor even unconsciously. We have all seen extremes in boxing judges cards which supports this theory. GGG of course . Still never knocked out of even down OR even looked to be hurt. I knew he couldn't win against a Mexican UNLESS he knocked him out especially fighting in the US. That's just the way things are. Avoided and avoided by the big names until you are getting old enough to just survive against. Still just part of the sport I suppose.

    The Terrible is one of the GOATs and definitely had the heart of a warrior. He always seemed to match his opponents tempo. If they were boxing, he would box. If they were aggressive and headhunting, he in-turn would be aggressive and headhunted. It’s unfortunate because Emmanuel Steward would complain that Morales would be fighting people and taking unnecessary damage when he (Emmanuel) KNOWS Morales could destroy these guys any time he wanted. But that’s one of the quirks I really like about The Terrible.
