Спорт

During week 7 of the 2000 NFL season, the Jacksonville Jaguars played the Tennessee Titans in the first ever Monday Night Football game in Tennessee. However, just one hour before the game, we had no idea whether or not the game was even going to be played.

Wait, the 99 AFC title game was Jacksonville-Tennessee? As a Jag fan, I swore the WAS no AFC title game that season. In fact, all I remember is the Jags being undefeated, never playing the Titans for some odd reason, and the NFL just awarding Tennessee a Super Bowl appearance for some weird reason. Definitely no Jags losses to the Titans that year. Nope. I refuse to believe it. *cries*

This was just after the movie "Remember The Titans" came out and I swear most of the signs in the stadium that night had some variation of "Remember The Titans" in it. I've always been more partial to Brian Billick's usage of that phrase anyway.

I forgot about this game and maybe it was for the best. As for what happened outside gate 6, i doubt that would've been handled the same way from the following season through the present day. The only people outside the stadium who would've known anything might have been those at home on their computers depending on how fast news agencies could've posted news to their websites.

the jaguars played twice on mnf in 2000, and both were bad games. i guess a sign of things to come in jaguars history and that the good times were officially over

Two AFC title game appearances in their first five seasons, and being on the winning end of the most lopsided NFL playoff game over the last 83 years, beating the Dolphins 62-7 in Dan Marino's final NFL game.

This is very similar to what happened earlier that year during the European Championship prior to the England-Germany group stage match in the city of Charleroi (Euro 2000 was held in both Belgium & the Netherlands). About an hour before kickoff, there were genuine concerns that the match would not take place or at the very least get postponed. This was because of two reasons. One was that English "fans" really hooligans had been getting into mass fights with their German counterparts (made worse by the fact that the bars opened at 9 am so that they could get more revenue) & the local police in Charleroi to the point that water cannons & the Belgian national guard had to be deployed to quell the situation. In addition to this, the police noticed a suspicious package outside the stadium & both teams along with the fans were not allowed to enter the stadium. Luckily the package was just stuffed with blankets & everyone was allowed to enter the stadium with the match kicking off 40 minutes later than scheduled. Because of this threat along with the incident that took place that day, UEFA & the local police basically had to do extra security checks on every fan that entered the stadium which resulted in many fans arriving late to their seats. As for how the match turned out, England won 1-0 thanks to an Alan Shearer goal though both teams would be eliminated in the group stage.

Since you brought this up Dennis Miller himself wasn’t bad. It was just the point of hiring someone like him and having to do so much to accommodate him.

These highlights remind me why I hate the Titans. They were really good then though, and the Jags could never really contain McNair at all.

Tennessee it should be noted already had a primetime home game in 1999, a Thursday night against the Raiders in December (back when Thursday Night Football was still a rare treat) If flex scheduling existed in 99, their November 22nd game vs Pittsburgh might have replaced OAK/DEN

Not the kind of ... bombs you want to see in a football game. Nor the kind of .... explosive situations you want to see happen. Could've been worse. We could have suffered watching the 2024 Jets on Monday Night Football edit: Speaking of 2000 Monday Night Football season, here's a topic idea. Probably the ugliest Christmas Day game ever: Cowboys/Titans on Monday Night Football. Titans win 31-0; Anthony Wright finishes with a passer rating of 0.0 (so he didn't even show up). In garbage time/backup, Neil O'Donnell finishes with a rating of 39.6 (so he spiked the ball every time)
