I played this game on steam in the 2000s. I was sucked HARD into it, I was exploring the ocean side cliffs and was near the end of the game and had the female companion with me and had to cross over to the other side. I was waiting for a wave to come up and carry my character over to the other side, and mistimed it. The music swelled as he jumped off the cliff with “the dive” and I and the female companion actually both yelled at the same time as he presumably dived off the cliff to his death. After everything he went through he had died. Of course he hadn’t, this isn’t a Sierra Mist adventure. But it’s one of the most memorable experiences I’ve ever had in any game ever.

I’ve never played or even heard of this game. But this is easily in my top 5 game soundtracks. It evokes childlike wonder; a great discovery not only on KZread, but deep within the imagination. It is the sound of a powerful dream boiling up between reality’s cracks. Your life is bending to these notes.. your day job, your bills, they are soon to drown. The dream has come! The mystery beckons! Do you wish to know what awaits?! Dig, my friends! Dig.

+RonTaboga Story and atmosphere are still important topics, but I wish developpers wouldn't fail at doing good things, most time it is bland and unoriginal (Gone home for example).

Games today has great stories and focus much more on characters. Though it came at the cost of originality and or the world and atmosphere. Undertale is a great story and original but it's one man job meant no time or possibility for a more defined polished look or environmental sound or interactivity. I don't like Uncharted as I don't care about a treasure hunt story and the gameplay looks like Gears Of War with scripted Assassin's Creed climbing. I'd rather want a Rayman 2 world with the background sound and detail of The Dig that really builds the atmosphere and tone. Or why not Monkey Island creativity? It's unique and defined by it's own themes and isn't copied by anyone else unlike Gears Of War who really gave a fever from all the second person shooters and such. If you're gonna be serious and gritty then do like Full Throttle. I actually love that game. The music, the quiet tone when it's needed, the characters and over the top designs but not to Psychonauts levels. Also don't make it dystopian or depressing, Full Throttle did a dark but still controlled and clean world

All you needed was functional gameplay. The story, music, characters, sounds and atmosphere did the rest. I don't like the so called walking simulators as their genre isn't fit for the story. Stanley Parable and Half Life did it right but that's an exception that's adapted for the narrative

@@magnusm4 Undertale an original story? Really? Falling thru a hole into an underworld habited by monsters with an evil king and some experiments with souls? Even the "choose to spare all the monsters" had been done by other game. Go play some Mother, buddy.

I finished the game yesterday (I first played it when I was a teenager but didn't remember much from it apart from Maggie's unwilling little "adventure" out of the library, which must have seriously shocked me back then if it's the only thing I remembered ;)). I believe it's one of the best game Lucas Arts has made, despite what I've read here and there (too hard, not enough explicit clues sometimes, too much pixel hunting - criticisms with which I agree to a certain extent only). While I was wondering about why I was still so very impressed with this game, probably even more than when I first played it, I realized music is definitely the answer. This soundtrack is what allows you to feel so immersed in the game while exploring those beautiful alien backgrounds and is what definitely helps the player feel that sense of eerie, calm yet unsettling feeling of loneliness. And I think that sums it all up - this is a game that will make you feel things (and think, too). Thanks for uploading this beautiful, beautiful soundtrack!

thanks for this, it's a great reminder of many hours of enjoyment playing this game back in the day. iirc originally Steven Spielberg wanted to make a movie out of the story, but handed it over to LucasArts to become a game when he realized that special effects hadn't yet advanced to the state they needed to be to make a convincing film. well, now that the SFX industry has caught up, how about it Steven? :-)

49:21 Also featured in the Dig's demo (in lower quality), one of the leit motifs arranged to orchestra with MIDI devices (probably a Roland SC, in counterposition with the rest of the soundtrack), more similar to Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis style. I like this deviation to an epic MIDI orchestra as done in older games. Makes me think how it would sound in the unreleased Brian Moriarty's version, or with full orchestra, in a Lucasfilm movie.

They can't match the size and beauty of this game. And especially this voice acting. It's not modern boring cliche stereotypes. They must have a more helpless gasping woman who acts tough but sounds like she's gonna faint every second. Also this world is amazing, maybe too amazing. How about we scale it down a little? maybe some CGI mountains will do and a big city to make it more suspenseful like having the cast run from collapsing sky scra- er I mean ancient alien building pillars. And these monsters, do you have any idea what those cost to render? let's make a more simple design to render. And the plot, hmm how do I say this. It's not. The entire world is gonna be destroyed if we don't shut down this giant portal hole of doom in the sky above this abandoned alien city-ish. We need a real villain, maybe have an evil corporation man who knew about this alien technology all along played by Gary Oldman. That should be subtle enough

For the rat you need the long staff and a rib cage skeleton and something to lure it out with and then fall it on the rat, then place a device on it and use the blue orb to locate it then just dig. For the light bridges it's simple. Rotate the discs under the control panel until it works. You must hold down the bridge button for the bridge to extend out
