I'm inclined to be overly polite, but after running into this paradox, if I'm coming to the point where I want to cross and a car is coming too, I just keep walking straight, parallel to the road. It gets the car to just pass me by since they don't think I'm crossing, so I can double back and cross uninterrupted.

I love the Bigfoot. There’s one I always refer to as the “Diagonal crosser.” In crossways near large store entrances a large swath is marked for pedestrians. Instead of taking the shortest, most direct line possible, the pedestrian crosses sort of diagonally, intentionally making the most of their temporary status as King Pedestrian.

That's because it isn't the shortest, most direct line relative to where their car is. It rarely ever is. And there is no such thing as being King Pedestrian in a parking lot, or frankly in the kind of city where it's normal for grocery stores to even have parking lots. If the way such places are designed is any indication, pedestrians can apparently get bent.

i used to be the overly polite and one time i just stood there, as like a literal 10 year old or something, waving my hand at some parent in a car till they drove past. they kept signalling for me to go, but i stood on the sidewalk and continued to wave my hand to tell them to go first

Every time I try to do that, some prick slows down and expects me to cross. I've had people HONK and SHOUT at me to cross. Meanwhile, CARS ARE STILL PASSING on the other side. I swear, these people have never walked before. They don't understand that it doesn't matter if they stop if other cars are still moving. I'm not going to get run over just so this person can pat themselves on the back. Most annoying thing is when they're the only car on the road and I've been waiting patiently for a full minute for them to pass. Then, when they finally get to me, they SLOW DOWN. JUST GO!! It will take you half a second to drive passed me. I've already been waiting for you to pass but you want to feel like such a good Samaritan even though you're wasting everyone's time...

I am sometimes polite, generally when I'm looking straight into my phone I just show the drivers that they can go and once I'm done I cross.

Here in my town, the most common is the “no looker”. If the driver gets distracted, for any reason, the “no looker” is gone.

The way he said “I caught a jiggly puff!” 😂😂

I am, 100%, the sprinter. My assumption while driving is that everybody is an idiot and that carries over onto when I'm walking, I want to be out of the road as soon as possible lmao

Don’t forget the Transformer. Begins crossing the street, only to turn into a car themselves and then start driving in front of you. You wouldn’t believe how many of those are scattered around campus.
