Let me explain this with an example. Gold has intrinsic value, whereas paper money has no intrinsic value. The value of paper money is in what it represents. Likewise, the animals that some people regard as sacred are avatars. They are not considered to be intrinsically sacred. They are revered for the breath of God in them. The statues also are not deemed to be sacred. They represent a god much like a picture that reminds you of a loved one. What does the black stone in Ka’ba represent? Nothing! It is worshiped because it is believed to be intrinsically sacred. This is idolatry.

Being a Christian i was always amazed by Sanatana Dharma and their ways. Hinduism cannot be described easily, its not just a religion, its a way of life, a culture. Its very complicated yet very deep rooted too. Its rich and its also mystic.

idk when I think of ways of living I think of things like vegetarianism or nudism. religion is like a way of living that something divine ordered upon you, especially by a god or gods, which applies to most hindu sects. I would say tho, hinduism is not a religion, it's hundreds, maybe thousands, of different religions and traditions that overlap.

As a Hindu I too agree that when you surrender yourself to the gods you become so fulfilled that your wave of life changes.

@@mayaswami9350 yeah but like that's in reference to the dating of the vedas. the vedic gods like agni or indra aren't the main focus of every hindu. the hindu gods usually worshipped come from later epics such as shiva or vishnu or brahma or lakshmi or ganesh or really most of the deities you hear about are among these epics. even then a shaivist and a vaishnavist aren't exactly the same thing, and seeing how many independent traditions there are within the hindu world makes me think it's not necessarily a good thing tosimplify it and call it one thing. that being said I'm interested in hinduism myself, particularly in the advaita vedanta school of thought, which again its scripture isn't nearly as old as the vedas.

Main Fact in Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) - there is only 1 god which has many forms, and there is not a denying that you can't praise any other god too, there is not a certain rule which must be followed to be called a Hindu. but has rules about not doing bad works (Paps). Most importantly only Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) is only a religion in the world in which Hindus believe in the one all-pervasive God who energizes the entire universe . And it also means the worship of one God without denying the existence of other Gods. I know there are some mistakes in my comment but plz ignore it. But to each their own.. some find peace in a multi faceted, multi layered consciousness and others like it more unambiguous and precise with standards set out to be strived for.

In Islam's holy book Quran, you can see all the prophets because all those prophets served to Allah. Judaism doesn't include Jesus, Christianity believes both of Old and new testament. In an education scenario, Hinduism is post graduate, while Islam is kindergarten.

If you are faith or devotional person try diving into bhakti sects and see if they work for you(some like Iskon(not really fan) and most other fall in this category)...this is closest Hinduism gets towards mainstream Christianity.. If you are into cerebral rationality and philosophy try Vedanta (works of Adi Sankara ....others like mimasa , Sankhya are there too they are rarely accessible) even Buddhism If you are more into methods and results and not much into faith Yoga is great (it's not poses,it's extremely tiny aspect)...be careful though there are many fraud Yoga companies out there.. If you are into myths pick up God goddess and there lot of stuff there... would make great comic book stuff Christianity as religion is great too..since it's second diverse religion right after Hinduism depends on church you go... As for Gita..I would say it heavily relies from where the interpretation comes from...... Try reading Gita by shivananda version,ramanujas version or Shankars commentaries, Iskons self proclaimed "as it is" version... If you love Hindu people keep loving them,you don't need to slice up their religion to know why you exactly love them,you can just choose things you like about them... though not very bad idea

Bhagavad Gita is not as easy to understand, unlike the Bible and the Koran, both of which I read, but Hinduism has this ancient aspect that truly resonates with me. Thankfully, I live in a city with large Hindu population, so there are plenty of temples to learn at. Thank you again for your response, friend:). Greetings from Toronto, Canada.

@@kzy1471 Hindus do not need a mediator (like muhammad or jesus) between "allah or shiva or the formless divine" and humans. Primitive abrahamic desert religion followers like you thought that the formless divine was just up there in the sky so they thought they needed a mediator. But the truth is the gap between our thoughts is also allah or shiva or the formless divine or the soul or athma (now you know why hindus do yoga or meditation). The space around us is also a mixture of allah or shiva and invisible energy waves (cellphone, radio and other electromagnetic waves). Allah or shiva and the universe cannot exist without each other. In fact, without allah or shiva, this universe cannot be perceived in its current form. The balance of opposites within the universe is mediated or sustained by allah or shiva or the formless divine. eg summer/winter, birth/death, waves/particles, man/woman, freezing/melting etc Temple worship of stone deities or images is to focus on a stone deity (for zero oscillation of thoughts or zero ego) so that we can access the gap between our thoughts which is allah or shiva. So, in other words, allah or shiva has manifested as everything (including stones, plants, trees, animals) and everyone in this universe. We use sanskrit mantras to vibrate matter so that we can become or access allah or shiva within us and around us. So, it does not matter whether we focus on a stone or dick or vagina like you. Above information is based on ageless hindu/vedic philosophy SANKHYA validated by double sit quantum experiment. Today is your karma to get enlightened. I sowed the seeds of wisdom which would eventually consume you no matter how many times you reincarnate and live in ignorance and denial.

The term 'koti' in Sanskrit has two meaning, one is 'supreme' and the other is million. The term 'trayastrimsati koti' does not mean the number 'thirty-three crore'. Here koti means 'supreme', pre-eminent, excellent, that is, the 33 'supreme' divinities.

There are still answers out there in the universe that many of us would be pleased to understand. The hidden mysteries of nature and science cannot be forever. @@juless3568 the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad tells there are 33 gods ..it was faked as 33M to mislead religion... The YajurVeda tells that there is only one Supreme God and he is formless (Islam copied this).. that supreme God is Lord Vishnu A/c to Shiva and Vishnu Puranas ..He is said formless not coz he doesn't have form but the almighty can take the form of any living being ..he is worshipped in the form known to our ancestors
