The differences between DENMARK and SWEDEN (Stockholm and Copenhagen)

Hey everyone!
I want you to comment down below one similarity that these both countries share together! (of course, if you know any!)
I want to be clear that I love these both countries equally and would never compare them to "which one is better" because I think that both of them come with a great basket of goods :) I just wanted to share my own experience from living in these two capitals and share the small differences that make them differ from one another!
Thank you for watching!

Fan fact. Once upon a time, even the butchers in Elsinore (Helsingør) used to sell alcohol and Denmark would get swarmed by Swedes looking for alcohol. It got to the point in the 1980's that an unofficial campaign was made in Copenhagen, where signs were put up with the text "Do Copenhagen a favor, follow a Swede to the ferry". It was all fun and jokes though. We like the Swedes (most of the time hahaha).

well, it was not that unofficial ... I'm pretty sure Jolly Cola had a campaign with that exact message: keep your country clean, take a swede to the ferry... it's a joke don't get all upset. Even Ikea, Denmark was in on it. They had a competition on making the best swede-joke (paraphrasing): God is good, he showed that by creating Sweden for the swedes, he also showed love and empathy when he created water between Denmark and Sweden (this was the winning joke).

Excellent, although I expected even more considering the video introduction that made me laugh 😭🤣🤣🤣 because I lived in several countries and that includes the Scandinavian ones. I found it while on the Spanish beach in the last week of October (120 km from the Moroccan coast). You bottled up your critics in too (stereotypical) "Swedish way" so waiting for the part two of your video when you speak your mind in more (stereotypical) Danish manner.

As a dane, id say you were right about music part aswell as the other stuff. Cuz sweden and music it goes hand in hand like Canada and skiing. But yeah the biggest Danish musician we have (thst is active) is "MØ,Lukas Graham, Martin Jensen, Christopher, Hugo Helmig" probably thr most known outside of Denmark (the last 2 in germany especially)

Hey! I'm conflicted in whether to go to copenhagen or stockholm for my study abroad next spring. Could you briefly talk about the weather difference (daylight in spring) and possibly what you'd prefer if you were a university student? Also is it easy to travel to other countries from both copenhagen and stockholm?

  • @arctic_desert

It depends on what you're into - if you're looking for party laid back culture Copenhagen leads. Swedish is easier to learn because of pronunciation and there are also more speakers. If you are into hiking - forests, camping, northern lights - then Sweden is the way to go, but if you're into traveling around Europe, Denmark will give you a better advantage. Stockholm is super super rainy and has like 100 more cloudy days annually than Copenhagen, but in terms of temperature they aren't as different as we might expect. All that said, if you have to find your own housing, Cph is more expensive for housing than Stockholm by faaaar. On a personal preference, I like the campuses in Cph more than the Stockholm campuses if we're talking host universities.

@@arctic_desert Well, this is just completely false. Rain days are similar (it actually rains more in CPH) difference is some of those rain days in Stockholm is snow. Housing prices are very similar too.

Systembolaget is actually good, largest importer of alcohol in the world. So you can order almost any drink that exist and enjoy it in the weekend, just gotta learn when it's open but Swedes know it by heart 😂 And i think u nailed the impressions of Stockholm vs Copenhagen. Stockholm think it's a fashion capital while Copenhagen is more 🤷‍♂️🍕🍺 Could you make a video on the difference between the baltic countries? U're all the same for us in Scandinavia 😂

And then, there is differens in every country, if one have the fortune to get out of the big citys.. and preferaly ones own comfort zone! With all my respect to your own musical criteria but Sweden how many many many many many more good musicians in composers then only the mainstream Abba all Avicii hedningarna, is one of this samples, and as far as I know one of the better things of Sweden is that in Sweden in the younger schools education they teach them music and musical technology is one of the reasons why Sweden export so many good musicians

Actually denmark is bigger._. If you count greenland.. In denmark there is not a age restriction on drinking._. But there is a restriction on buying alcohol._. I think its 16 for soft alcohol and 18 for hard alcohol._. I am to old for this to effect me._.. I remember going for cigarettes and beer at age 7 for my dad._. And i started drinking at 11.._

Nah! We don't allow alcohol in libraries in DK (unless there's a Cafe', that has a license, and in that case, it may only be consumed in the cafe') . Neither do the Swedes. Yes DK's alcohol laws are more lenient. Why a lot of Swedes come here for a good time 👍 ! Alcohol i is also cheaper here. I admit that everything else is a lot cheaper in Sweden 😔 ! We Danes actually like our "Sister and Brothers" from Sweden and Norway 👍😍👍 ! A lot has changed with the "Bridge" 😊
