    It's important to point out that with a parrallel effects loop, you need a kill dry option on you effects box. Other wise you are doubling the original signal and that can cause wierd phasing effects. Some BOSS effects pedals give you the option of using the ''B'' output of a stereo output that acts as an effect only output. I know the Tera Echo does this. I'm not sure about their delay pedals.

    Euge you da man! I just turned down my effects loop it’s in series mode now and it worked like a charm I had no idea you can use that as a master volume (using a Laney GH50L master is on 5 1/2 now) you just saved me $350 on an attenuator…thanks a ton. Now I’m going to try my EVH phaser in front of my distortion pedals.

    I hardly use an effect loop so my tone is pretty much bone dry and if there’s a need for delays, reverbs etc. those are added in the mix. But if I use something it’s usually a delay & boost (any BOSS delay works & any transparent boost just for extra volume) for the solos but many times those are also added by a FOH on live shows if he / she feels so. Thanks!

    I also have a JCM600 head and was wondering if you have the same problem as I have? If I have any effects pedals plugged into the loop (all off) and I crank the volume on the clean channel the breakup is terrible, almost like a blown speaker sound. If I disconnect the pedals from the effects loop, the breakup is much better. I am wondering if it's because of the buffers in non-true bypass pedals pushing the power amp? I have 2 JCM600 heads and they both do the same thing so I don't think it's an amp issue, possibly an inherent issues with these particular models. Would dig to know if you have the same problem

    @@shaundragt6870 hmmmm That’s weird. For example, I plug some true by pass on the loop (series ir parallel) and they sound great. But sometimes I plug a digitech 2112 and it also sounds good, no problem crancking any channel. Sorry for not being of so much help, but I guess it might be something for those specific pedals Maybe? Maybe the power source for those pedals? Have you tried with batteries?

    I'd love to find out what you could recommend as for a noise gate. I've never used one, but know that with certain events my band has coming up, it would be extremely helpful. And are they better run straight in, or loop? My main amp is a Silver Jubilee, and I sometimes use my 6505, with either a TS9, or SD-1to tighten it up. Thanks for any input!

  • @EugeValovirta230V

    @EugeValovirta230V

    Thanks for the question Dizzy. I have ISP Decimator and BOSS NS-2 Noise Suppressor at home and they work both great. On my live board I have Fortin Zuul gate which is probably the best gate there is 'cos of the Key Input in addition to the normal in and out jacks. The Key Input tracks your direct guitar signal (in my case from the Boss Tuner's bypass out jack which is the first pedal where my guitar signal goes) and open and closes the gate by that "information" so you can have it set really tight for distorted sounds but it still opens the gate nicely when dialing back the volume to play more clean sounds. And then when it's at the end of the pedal chain, just before delay, it cuts all of the noise / hiss from pedals but doesn't cut the tails of the delay.. I run gates always in front of the amp. In the loop it just cuts the noise / hiss from the pre amp (which isn't that much anyway if the amp is good) going into power amp but in front of the amp it cuts both the hiss from pedals (which are the noisiest things usually, especially overdrives & distortions) and acts as a gate. And I mostly use old Marshall JCM800 2203's and they don't even have a loop :-)

    Live I don’t use real amps (with Cyhra) and when I did I used mainly old Marshalls without a loop or if there was a loop in the amp I used whatever type of loop the amp had 😊. The only effect I basically have / had in the loop is / was a delay and if there wasn’t a loop I put it in front and used it only for clean sounds ’cos delay in front of gain stages sounds horrible. In the studio the delay etc effects, that would be in a loop, are always added in the post production (mix). So basically my approach is whatever works best with the gear that is available at any given time 👍.

  • @EugeValovirta230V

    @EugeValovirta230V

    It doesn’t really work in a parallel loop ’cos in a parallel loop the original signal stays original and the parallel is kinda mixed in and the whole point with a noise suppressor / gate is that it affects the whole signal and not just part of it. I use gate always in post overdrive and pre the actual amp but if you want to use it in loop then a series one it must be 👌😎.

    NS-2 works just great. Just place it after the boost pedal and it cuts all the noise. At least mine does 👌😎. And if that’s not enough put the boost in NS-2’s ”loop”: send to the pedal and from the pedal to the return of the NS-2. If NS-2 is in the amp’s loop it’ll only cut the noise from the amp’s preamp but not from the pedal 😉.
