In where I live (south Spain), we have something called "ventas". They are like small roadside bars and they also have small accommodations (10 or 12 rooms only). That is something very popular for long car triste here

Finally. An answer that I’ve actually wondered about.

Motels are like a public toilet where you only go if it's an emergency and Hotels are like your own toilet where you can sit comfortably and wander in your thoughts.

Motel is a smaller, 1 floor or 2 floor only version of a hotel

I was told it’s because one has a bar and restaurant and other doesn’t.

I love the difference in quality between the Hotel and Motel models in this short.
