10:36 as someone who has made many bougée grilled cheese sandwiches before, I want to point out that Andy’s boyfriend burnt tf outa the first sandwich he made for her in the movie if you want a great combo, don’t bother with the truffle, just use a cheese grater to get some shredded cheddar, parmesan, and add either mozzarella or provolone (three cheese blends really hit the spot) and in between layers of cheese, add a spice mixture that includes garlic powder and oregano. For the bread, use mayo of any kind on the outside. Melt a small slab of butter in the pan before you put the bread in, and salt both sides as you flip them. make sure they are GOLDEN BROWN. not dark, like the way Andy’s shitty boyfriend made them Adjust to your spice tolerance levels, but i usually use a hefty amount of red pepper flakes in the seasoning and a dipping sauce that includes: 2 parts Ketchup 1 part sriracha 1 part mayo 1 part maple syrup please trust me on this. i promise, on the Grilled Cheese code, that i would not steer you wrong

@@emilyrlnboth the responses are so sweet, I forgot to mention that if you chop up a clove or two of garlic and mix it into the mayo you put on the outside of the bread, you get a Garlic Bread Grilled Cheese

@emilyrln in my experience, leafy herbs would burn, you'd be better off adding fresh chopped parsley inside the sandwich!! Love the recipe btw, will try asap!!

About the clothes Andy wears after her makeover: people who work at the magazine can borrow stuff from the big dressing room Nigel takes Andy too, that's why she is not wearing any fancy clothes at the end of the movie, she no longer works at runway so she can't borrow the clothes

And the clothes she got from france she gave away. She could have probably kept them but why if all she was really after was being a journalist, not a fashionista.

As much as I love bride wars, as a business, the wedding planner should’ve just called the other bride and said hey we’re sorry but that date was already promised to someone else and we made a mistake, this is the date that’s still available.

This movie is a good case normalizing all different kinds of lifestyles, but also being honest with yourself and your partner about what you want as well. Miranda was already in this position when her and her husband got together, he knew the demands of her job, and married her anyway. Then he decides it’s too much? I’ve seen that too often in the real world, it’s like some people think once you’re married, the woman is going to drop everything to just be a wife, but that’s not fair.

I felt it wasn’t just her career, but what an a**ss she is. He should and maybe knows how she acts with people. I wouldn’t want to be with someone either. It also depends on if she took even more hours working than she previously did. I feel it is a gray area, but do see your points.

Andy on the other hand was very different before she started working at Runway, and her boyfriend watches her change completely over a year. Not to excuse the way he handled it, but that is tricky!

The wedding booked on the same date literally happened to someone i know. They were having their wedding at a winery, but someone at the winery fucked up and booked a 2nd wedding on top of theirs at on the same date. By the time the mistake was noticed it was too late to change anything. The winery boldly endeavoured to host both at once: set up one wedding inside, and put my friends outside under a massive marquee near the vineyard. To their credit they comped a shit load of stuff for my friend, as the marquee set up was actually more expensive, but they didn't have nearly enough staff to properly serve 2 weddings at once so that was a bit of a mess. And the person who fucked everything up to begin with? Couldn't bear to face the mistake he had made and literally RAN from the job. No resignation, no apology, just never showed up to work ever again.

I came for Bride Wars! In 2009 I studied abroad in Spain and my host family was an elderly woman, she had no internet and I was really depressed being so far from home, I had this movie on DVD and I watched it SO many times.

30:34 this also supposed to be their Met Ball, which is their biggest event of the year; Andy should have always assumed *something* would come up. That’s the only mistake she made there.

The devil wears Prada has a special place in my heart. In 2013 I lived in Germany for 6 months and when I came home to Ireland it was hard to readjust to school and everything and I had my work experience to sort out (you work somewhere for a week without pay and you have to organise it yourself). It was super stressful and busy (it was A-level year as well). I clthen caught swine flu, I was off for 3 weeks with a temperature of 39⁰C and was in and out of consciousness. This was the first movie I watched the whole way through without falling asleep. I still associate it with recovering from illness haha

As someone who's read the Devil Wears Prada book, this is a RARE case where the movie is SO much better than the book. Spoilers: The book makes Miranda a cartoon villain with no human depth or redemption, the reason Andy quits her job is because her female friend ODs, the guy she sleeps with in Paris is actually a decent guy (Unlike the movie), and Nigel is a boiled down gay stereotype. Again, the movie is such a polished version of this book's ideas.

What pissed me off about the friends in Devil Wears Prada (Minus Doug, who should have gotten hooked up with a job at Runway), is that my sister was an artist, and I've *worked* in NY kitchens. Artists are shamelessly handsy a LOT of the time, it's part of their community, and her BFF sent TO a dark corner, sees a kiss on the cheek, and just assumes the worst immediately. As to the BF, if he is trying to be a chef in NYC, you don't HAVE a life. You will routinely manage to get home somewhere in the vicinity of about midnight to 3 am, and a number of aspiring chefs sleep in their cars. NY is one of the most competitive culinary markets in the *WORLD*, and chefs will tear you down constantly. If ANYONE should have gotten what she was dealing with, it was him.

In a relationship (Especially if about to get married)... Both Parties should know, that communication is key to making sure you can be around that person. And UNDERSTANDING that you are Not Obligated to stay with them if they put a damper on your life and are exhausting to be with. Girls will try to change the guy or themselves before they decide to even consider Leaving for something better for themselves...Compromising is a must, Not changing yourself completely. It shouldn't feel like work, it's gonna have bumps (were only human, things happen) , but it shouldn't be a battle being together... Life gets Complicated enough as it is. Marriage in some ways seems like a headache, it's just a piece of paper...Plus women (And Men) get screwed over and then they have to deal with court sh*t, because a guy Marries them (As f*ckin' like nothing for them and then goes about cheating and being a coward and not a Man)...Marriage can be really strange when you think about it lol.

Late to the party. Just a few thoughts. The main thread of the movie was accountability, owning up to your choices. All throughout the movie, Andrea was saying it was not her choice; but each and every step of the way, everyone even in Runway was telling her its her choice. Now, i get that her friends and bf are carricatures and could have been written better; but in principle, they were correct, but were just sucks at articulating it. What bugs me is How the fandom gets on the BF’s case when he calls her out on the lack of accountability. But completely gets in line when it was Miranda who calls Andrea out on her lack of accountability when she chose to get ahead. At the end of the movie, her making up with the BF is more a sign of her growth and realizing how she did make rhe choices. She tried the double life instead of just allowing the distance that would innevitably happen if she is all in in chasing the opportunity. It was never about him or a romantic reconciliation. But yeah, the bf is immature. At the end of it, even Miranda smiles to herself as she sees Andrea finally standing for herself and chasing her true goals instead of being sucked into the industry, unlike her who got consumed by it. Andrea finally made a choice and stood by it.

So... I am sure we all agree that Stanley Tucci is a freaking genious... (side note: maybe an idea for a compilation video... you have watched some good ones :) )... watching this I suddenly wondered if he has a star on the walk of fame as I have seen some people get them recently and I was umm confused as to what the requirements are. He does not have a star. Like WTF? He's amazing!

I took the “congratulations, you’re free” as supporting her in a way. It wasn’t just that she changed herself, but how much she hated this job. It is one thing slaving away for something you love, but it is another thing when you are losing everything about yourself. And I get he was a jerk about it, but when you know the person changed their mind on something that you know would send them on a downward spiral, I would be pissed for you. But yeah, agree with your points too. And I feel that her friends (on the birthday topic) wasn’t mad at her for working or wanted her to quit. They just wanted her to be there for them for one day. I also see that her changes weren’t just her evolving, but losing who she was morally, in a way. They even showed how she slowly became Miranda. I feel this is what gets lost by judging a couple of scenes with the friends. I also feel the job environment today warps our minds to think that a world life balance does not and should not exist and that people who call this out are not supportive versus being protective.

The Devil Wears Prada exemplifies the type of work that I despise, the one where your work bleeds into your daily life. American work culture of, you work at all times of day(outside of hospital jobs) is a mentality that kills and dehumanizes. As a Northern European, I see American work culture as legitimized and legalized slavery. Once you leave your place of work, yo should not expect a single call or text from work... even if your work is going up in flames. If a business can't support their employees completely disconnecting after clocking out, then the business deserves to crumble.
