The Australians defeated the Japanese on the Kokoda Track (not trail - that is the American description). There were no Americans there. And the Battle of Milne Bay was mainly fought by Australian troops and was the first land defeat of the Japanese. The Kokoda Track involved a tactical withdrawal along a treacherous track which cause the Japanese, who vastly outnumbered the Australians, to overstretch their supply lines and almost starve. Then the Australians went on the offensive. Macarthur was a micro manager who blamed the Australians for being cowardly but he failed to understand the terrain, the Australian tenacity and the strength of the Japanese from the comforts of his HQ in Brisbane. He repeated these same mistakes in the battle of the northern coastal villages of PNG where Australian troops were triumphant but just due to the meddling and lack of understanding of the battle by Macarthur. American played a huge role in the Pacific but I am over the Americans claiming all the credit and not realising the role Australia played and the huge defeats inflicted on the Japanese by the Australians in PNG.

@@bwilliams463 Not trying to detract from the bravery and work of the US throughout the Pacific. An Australian militia battalion - the 39th from Victoria, meant for homeland defence and undertrained, found themselves facing up to 5000 battle hardened Japanese along the Kokoda Track. They did a tactical withdrawal to pull the Japanese into the jungle and to stretch its supply lines. It worked but there was not much left of the 39th. Our main battle hardened troops were caught up in North Africa (my uncle was one of them). Macarthur could not understand the retreat nor the low casualties as it was thick jungle on a track a few feet wide. Fighting along the way was often hand to hand and there was never any wide scale front. When reinforcements arrived the Aussies pushed the Japanese all the way back. Around this time a largely Australian force repelled with Japanese landing at Milne Bay. It took another two years to push the Japanese out of Japan. Dad used to fly DC3s over the Owen Stanley Ranges with troops and supplies on board. There are lot of PNG battles fought mainly by the Australians that never get a mention.

More overlooked is that the most effective submarine campaign ever waged against shipping was the US Navy's Pacific sub fleet's devastation of Japanese shipping. This despite the prolonged delay attributable to an initial dysfunctional torpedo and a Navy weapons bureau with its head up its butt. Germany never came close to isolating the UK by submarine, while the US strangled Japan by submarine despite the late start.

Really enjoyed the video. One point - as an Australian whose father served in the RAAF during WWII, no Aussie would ever refer to our Air Force as the R, A, A, F. It is universally known as the R double AF. Also concur with the earlier comment made about MacArthur & his bungling use of Australian Army forces, & his disinclination to recognise their vital contributions in PNG.

By March 1943 the crews of Beaufighter, A20, B25, B17 and PBY were veterans and had trained in skip bombing. B17 efficacy against ships improved further later. Nose cannon armamament of the Beaufighter was so good a heavier version was fitted to both B25G and A20G which though popular, arrived too late for most of the Bismark Sea engagements.

In reality, Milne Bay was 500km away from the convoy and nowhere near it's intended path. Your lack of decent maps and other annotation in your videos creates a problem, as neither your audience, nor apparently you, have a clear picture as to what's going on. It's all just words.
