For those wondering, the shadows represent the body of the Maya serpent god, Kukulkan. The carving at the bottom of the stairs is Kukulkan's head. If I remember right, the shadow only comes down the stairs like that during the vernal and autumnal equinoxes.

First, you have to get two teams together (usually, POWs) and play the Ball Game, hopefully to please Chac, or one of the other Maya deities. Of course, the losing team gets executed by your warriors. Then you need to wait for an auspicious position of the planet Venus to attack Chichén Itzá, or maybe Palenque (you don't wanna mess with Tikal, my warriors are bored, and spoiling for a fight). Only when the stones of your pyramid are soaked with the blood of your enemies, can you build a temple honoring Kukulkan! How shall we address you, Your Highness? I am called Ah Cacao, Lord Chocolate.

The step pattern you are seeing is a shadow projected on to the staircase wall from the adjacent corner of the ziggarat. The step pattern forms the undulating body of the snake's body which termimates at the bottom of the stair case into the snake head. The entire image is a representation [a fetish] from the Mayan pantheon of Kukulakan--a main Mayan deity! Not as strong as Jesus but definitely stronger than say, John the Baptist! Most likely a Goa'uld who reigned over Earth at the tike and enslaved the people!

I really believe they did... as there's a place called Cartagena in Colombia but the first Cartage was in North Africa, around Roman times. If you search about ancient culture, you will find that all over the world it is said that people would come and share the knowledge on how to do something. I believe people were already traveling everywhere and sharing the techniques discovered... that's how bit to bit humanity kinda evolved together

@@luanabarkert1051 Cartagena was most likely named due to the basque, Spanish and Portuguese travelers making their way to into the South American main lands and naming certain cities after inspired myths and folklore. So highly unlikely of that Cartagena name part. It’s the little things at most we have to focus on which is the grains, wind variations, and set of language and would find that man in general have been making contact with each other many eons ago and that racism of today is a superficial concept.

The history of the indigenous peoples in the Americas is much, much older than a few thousand years. The Hopi people tell that they arrived in the America’s about 30,000 years ago when the continent that they were living on, Lemuria, sank under water. They claim to be the ancestors of the Maya. We judge the Maya, Aztecs, Inca’s and others on the traces that we find. But when we dig our way from the present to the past, we must know that the Earth is suffering from a cycle of seven recurring natural disasters. That is told in the Popol Vuh. These disasters create a cycle of civilizations. There are four primitive civilizations, sometimes mentioned a sun or world era. The next civilization lives in the fifth sun. This becomes eventually a high developed civilization that disappeared 20,000 years ago due to the next recurring, thus predictable but inescapable disaster that is caused by the ninth planet in our solar system. That planet orbits our sun in an eccentric orbit hence it is only a short period close to our sun and its planets s it crosses the ecliptic planet at a very high speed. This high developed civilizations has built sturdy monuments all over the world and they must have buried knowledge about themselves and the world history deep in the ground. High in the mountains they have built shelters or surviving places for a selected number of people. Like Machu Picchu in Peru. The Aztec sun stone is a warning for this event is known as Quetzalcoatl, Tonatiuh, Xiuhcoatl or Nibiru in other regions. Much more details about this cycle of natural disasters and many images can be found in an e-book. "Planet 9 = Nibirul". Search: invisible planet 9 roest

To see it in person and during the ceremonies before and during really make for a profound experience. Kukulkan (fiery serpent) is also known as quazlcoatle / lucifer / satan / tiamat / leviathan. The so-called "fiery serpent falling from the heaven" is in reference to either a comet or a planet or planetoid or moon, that crashed into the Earth thousands of years ago. This impact caused a water vapor canopy that surrounded Earth to collapse, and also tilted the Earth's axis to where it is today. 23 degrees. Prior to the massive impact, no solar or cosmic radiation ever reached the Earth's surface directly to destroy DNA, so animals and humans got really big and old. After the impact, for the first time, humans could see direct sunlight refract through water (a rainbow). Also after the impact DNA gets destroyed by solar and cosmic radiation so people only get to about 100years. Oxygen levels on Earth is much lower than what it was before the impact. Sea levels were much lower also. Most all of what existed on Earth was killed / destroyed by the impact or the following floods.

Why is that? Why bestow your pity for someone who is captivated by such engineering precision and historical significance? The pitiful part is really the fact that a group of very intelligent people [not you] imagined, planned and constructed something that still works to this day. It's a constant reminder of another time and of another civilization. When you go from this realm you know what you will leave behind? A few cliches in a newspaper column and a chunk of granite that will eventually be erased by time. That is the legacy close minded people leave for the future. And for that, I say all the better that it be removed-what good does it instill? So, for anyone taken on by your statement, you truly have my pity!

Disregard people like him! They have been completely drained of all joy in their lives along with any sense of wonderment. It makes people like this one feel clever to express their lack of amazement in such feats of engineering. If they took the time to learn the difficulties and problems an ancient civilization with no hydraulic, pneumatic or electric tools had to overcome to even plan these structures, let alone build them, than they just might start to see the "OVERwhelming" aspects of these structures. Until then, they will continually be in awe of NASCAR races and tractor pulls! Underwhelming my ass!
