The Department of Physics, U of Illinois Urbana-Champaign - Ground Breaking Research Urbana Style!

The Department of Physics at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is best known for it's traditionally strong Condensed Matter Physics program and it's "Urbana style" of research rooted in the spirit of collaborative intellectual exploration that led to the BCS theory of superconductivity. Urbana style is defined by close interactions of theorists and experimentalists coupled with keen attention to materials and state-of-the-art measurement and computational facilities. The Urbana style is being propagated to grow their program in other areas, e.g. biological physics, quantum information, and particle physics, and is driving equally creative and innovative advances in physics education research.
