Спорт

Welcome to another episode of Islands in the League with JJ Redick presented by Draft Kings. In this video we discuss our favorite "ALFRED's" of the year. Alfreds being people who shine in their roles - players like Derrick White, Josh Hart and more. Then we do another "build around" segment - this time with Boston Celtics legend Bob Cousy. And finally, we take a look at Championship odds with our resident expert, Josh Appelbaum.

I only really watch my team, the Pacers. But I have no idea how people aren't raving about TJ McConnell, the man Shaq refers to, affectionately, as "Rudy." I try not to be too much of a Homer, but I've watched him dismantle almost every team in the league. With layups. And the vibes he puts out. Standout performance to me was against the Thunder, near the end of the season. It was late in the 1stQ when the bench got put in, 10 points down. Through the end of the 1st and into the 2nd, the Pacers bench destroyed three waves of Thunder that were thrown at them, going on a run that swung them from 10 points down to 10 points up. They had the ball zipping around every which way, making cuts, finding the open guy, and racking up assists. It was... beautiful. And, in the middle of it all, TJ McConnell. All due credit to Obi 3 Kenobi, Stix, Ben Shepard, and Dougie McBuckets for playing their parts, but, thanks to TJ, they looked like a full roster of all-stars for 6 or 7 glorious minutes. TJ changes the outcome of games. As a backup, and counterpoint, to Haliburton, in this "fast-and-free" Pacers system, he's a perfect fit. Milwaukee managed to keep TJ contained for most of the 1st round, but it wasn't an accident. They changed their entire defensive scheme, switching to a zone, when TJ was on the floor. Don't sleep on TJ, because I guarantee you that the scouting report of your favorite team isn't. Also, you should all know about "Bloody TJ." He normally doesn't shoot 3s, BUT, if TJ's blood is spilt upon the court of play, his soul becomes one with the entire sport of basketball, and he gains the additional power to knock down three-pointers without missing. I first witnessed this miracle in the last game of the season, against the Hawks.

Can you talk about how roster building has changed over the past few years and how the big 3 era is dying. Teams are starting to more highly value solid rotational guys to go along with their star. Feels like teams are valuing fit and depth a little more than in the 2010s.

JJ, love all the stats...big stats guy here. However, technically, Josh Hart may have the most rpg by a guard overall, but if you look minutes played, I believe Brandon Podziemski takes it

Solid points, JJ… Being an Alfred just means you’re willing to cede the position to someone else as Batman. Even if that Alfred was at some point(s) a Batman For example, Dwade and Shaq in 06. Shaq was more of an Alfred (12 ppg and 8 rpg) for the finals While Dwade 40 ppg Dwade and LeBron, the first championship D wade was an Alfred There is definitely no shame to being an Alfred! Because even hall of famers often times become Alfred’s in due time

The idea of Batman, Robin, Alfred. People gotta understand a team has a bunch of players, who have their role. Of course a guy who excels at scoring and making tough plays and decisions is incredible and on a level of his own but its a team game, its not for everyone to be the "superstar" but everyone can contribute for success

The only thing I feel this show needs is a bit more graphic support. I know this might be an stylistic choice but the entire bottom left corner was empty. How about a the faces of the people that have been selected? the 10 squares there and fill them up as you name the player...

Field goal percentage should always be compared to the era's average. Sub 40s was not atrocious back then, if you know how the game was played.
