There is nothing “wrong” with the concept of community. The problem arises when a leader must be chosen and what this leader is allowed to decide and force upon others! I have studied this for several decades. The leaders want the community to be subordinate to to them. All leaders have a tendency to want more and more power and control over everyone! There are those like me who will NOT allow anyone to tell me what to do without my personal evaluation and decision to do or not do it. I am fiercely independent and I had rather be all alone than under the umbrella control of anyone other than God!

I love my neighbors - they are my community. I dont always like them and vice versa but they have my back and I have theirs. We have years of experience with each other building that bond.

In many cases community was in large part your family or clan, but no more. Most people used to grow up to work and live in the same area they were raised, but again, no more. If the stuff hits the fan, my family would never be able to get back together, they are scattered to work and live in areas too far apart. We're in a rural area where most of my neighbors are elderly or infirmed and none of them have made any plans or preparations for hard times. We have skills and are as prepped as possible, but I'm 70 and my Wife and I are on our own.
