I usually hate these "cosy historical" shows, and find all the quirky anachronisms infuriating. But this is the correct approach to the genre: make the link to the source text extremely loose, isolate the principals somewhere, and let them go crazy. I'm sold.

Looks good because it's based on a book. But it's Netflix. Still trying your patience pushing inclusivity in period films where it doesn't belong. Why spend so much on location sets, costume to achieve period believability only to put an element that doesn't belong there?

You a historian, buddy? Medieval and early Renaissance Florence had extensive contact with North Africa and the Middle East. Not to mention Spain, large parts of which were ruled by North African Moors at the time. You're imagining a non-multicultural past that *never existed*
