The Death Traverse // Climbing The Wedge, Sedona

The lonely sandstone summit stood patiently for years without a visitor. There is a reason this mountain top sees few visitors. The summit is guarded by the intimidating death ledge that turns around the very few that can even find it. The wait is over as the backcountry duo gets out to make an attempt to summit and claim "The Wedge".

No way Jose. I would be lying flat on that ledge, crawling along at a rate of one inch per minute.

That's a hell to the no. I won't even go out on Devils Bridge, so that ledge is 100% out of the question.

Please don't attempt. I did this for everyone to watch us do it. I don't want anyone to get hurt. It is extremely dangerous obviously lol

I now live close to Sedona. The place is really cool to hike and bike. Even when it is busy, there are so many trails, you can find something that isn't crowded.

Especially if you go off trail lol I've never had a problem avoiding people. You just have to work for it a little bit.

Wow. Just stumbled across your video - great work there by the way - and damn, does it bring back the memories. First of all I'm amazed that freaking jelly jar I put up there back in the day is still around! And second I think you folks took the same route I took... always suspected that's really the best way, despite the exposure. Good job on the climb....

@@codiacstudios Hell yeah it is man. Cool to see your videos of these as I haven't been up some of them in like 15 years. I left registers on many and it's interesting to see that now a bunch of people have signed them. Some of them I did back in the day, like the Fortress, 6390, the Wedge, the Lost Mountains, 6510... I'm guessing that only you and a couple of others have been up, since they're such beasts.

You might be the only one in the world to climb the "Fortress." HUGE props to you. Michael and I planned on attempting The Fortress this year. I'm assuming you use the southeast fork of Hartwell Canyon to the North Bear and Fortress saddle.

@@codiacstudios Thanks! And, maybe? I think I've done a few for the first time but you never know... there was a dude who climbed here before me, Packard... he did a bunch of crazy shit too, way back in the 80's I think. Your idea sounds good on the route. I'm away from my records, but I actually think I went over Bear Mountain (North) to get to the Fortress, be glad to find you the beta when I get back though.

@@halleck3 That would be amazing to have that beta if you can find it. If not thats ok. Half the fun is figuring it out. That is crazy that you went all the way across Bear to get there. That is not easy
