Judy Tyler had score a big hit on Broadway when she was cast in Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical Pipe Dream. The musical opened on November 30, 1955 at the Shubert Theater and closed on June 30, 1956 for a total of 246 performances. Tyler was nominated for a Tony Award in the category Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance as Suzy but lost out to Lotte Lenya in "The Threepenny Opera. Hollywood took notice and Tyler made two films: Bop Girl Goes Calypso (1957, United Artists) and it was her second film that put Tyler into the spotlight Jailhouse Rock (1957, MGM). Tyler had just married for a second time to actor Gregory Lafayette and they were on their way to New York City, where Judy was to become a regular panelist on the popular 1950's game show "Pantomime Quiz," then do a summer stock tour of Desire Under The Elms with her husband Greg. In the early evening of July 3, 1957 their 1957 Chevrolet approached “Wild Bill’s Curio Store and Petting Zoo” on US Highway 30, three miles north of Rock River, Wyoming. When a car pulled out of the tourist site onto the highway, LaFayette swerved, sending the couple’s car skidding into the oncoming lane. The Lafayette car was hit broadside by another car driven by Paul L. Reed, 32, Judy Tyler was killed instantly, Tyler's husband died the next day at the hospital and Donald J. Jones, 23, a passenger in the Reed automobile, also died. The Lafayette's traveling pets, a dog and a cat, also perished in the crash.

OMG, wow, I just finished watching the Perry Mason episode she was on. I've seen it so many times in the past from the reruns. I was looking up the cast of the show to see who the people were, and eventually, found out JUST NOW, that she died. WOW! And so young! May she rest in peace. Reminded me of the movie, "Maxie", where the star was on her way to stardom and I think a role in a film and she got killed in a carwreck, and wonder if the writer was Judy's untimely death as a basis for the movie, "Maxie".

(In this commentary, we use EAST and WEST to describe directions of automobile travel, as highway 30 makes a series of curves near the scene of the wreck, but is a generally east/west highway). The accident happened on Route 30, North of Rock River, Wyoming, at the “Billy The Kid Cafe, Motel and Zoo” (All gone now). They were driving East toward Rock River, possibly intending to stop for the night in Laramie, as the accident happened late in the day. The car they swerved to avoid had pulled out of the cafe parking lot on their left (north side of highway 30). Their car skidded to a stop, sideways in the westbound lane and was broadsided by a 1954 Chevy traveling West. The photo of the wreck was taken looking west, by someone standing on the South side of highway 30. If you know where to look, a few traces of the motel can be seen among the weeds. Route 30, a seldom used road today, was a primary East-West highway in the years before Interstate 80. Called the “Lincoln Highway”, Route 30 ran from Times Square , New York to Lincoln Park, San Francisco.

It makes sense why he was always so depressed, he always had some tragic shit lurking around the corner, even after death when his daughter married that ghoul MJ.

Ironic, I just watched her in the Perry Mason episode. She was a beautiful girl so I looked her up and went over her whole story to find that I had seen her many times. You see when she did Jail House Rock and Perry Mason I was already crushing on her as an7/8/9 year old while she was on the Howdy Food show as princess Summer Winter Spring. Now I'm 73 and sad to know she died when I was 11yo. The final irony I drove by her resting place many times for over ten yearsvon my way to work and never knew any of this until tonight. Rest in Heaven beautiful Princess. To her husband I can only say you really freaking had to go out of your way in Wyoming back then to find two cars to run into and kill three people.
