I live in Brownsville from 62 to 83. As a kid I and my friends use go that building for years it was a News Paper stand outside next to the subway stairs and inside we kids use to buy comic books, magazines and buy vanilla shakes.I never knew then until years later that News Stand was the former headquarters of Murder Incorporated.By the way every corner you drove Mooney I had schools friends that live on the those blocks back in the 60s and 70s.

Abe "Kid Twist" Reles got his name because as a kid, when he went to the very same candy store, he always got the twisted licorice, chocolate or "red" ropes that are still big sellers. Most of these guys grew up together in that neighborhood so the candy store was always their hangout. Conveniently the train station is right there so they could anonymously travel to work and just as easily be contacted in person without attracting attention. I didn't realize Bugsey Siegal was a Murder Inc. alumnus.

There was another Jewish gang leader around circa 1900 called 'Kid Twist'. He was quite famous in his time and Reles came along not too long after. It is most likely he took his name from tha guy, Max 'Kid Twist' Zweibach.

The "headquarters" of Murder Inc was called Midnight Rosies back in the 30. It was a candy store back then (candy stores sold newspapers and also had a fountain for cherry cokes and that sort of thing, they were all over the city back then). The pay phone (back 85 years ago, few people had telephones at home) was used for all those gangland executions. I remember being a kid and my Great Aunt Ida lived on Saratoga, and I heard of Murder Inc back then.

Always say “allegedly”, on info you don’t know for a fact ! Like thepapers back then falsely over exaggerated “400-1000” murders … to make it more entertaining to viewers! Their wasn’t that many gangsters to kill anyways😂… plus one would show up and someone go to jail at least if it was !
