Pog is good but I think part of the reason he shines is the lack of quality in the 26-33 yr old gen. The 34+ gen of Froome/Nibali/Thomas/Valverde/Gilbert have shone for so long due to a lack of replacements. Now finally we are getting a new gen.

I believe if Roglic hadn't crashed so hard or if the whole Pelotón hadn't turfed it half a dozen times, I feel this would be a much closer GC. What seems to be a certainty is Pogacar is strong. Would have loved to see how today would have gone if there hadn't been crashes in the early stages, and if the likes of Bernal and Landa (maybe even Remco) were here in form. Yes, Pogacar is dropping the field, but who is he actually dropping that's surprising? Given the race circumstances and all that's happened up to now, who do we expect to be able to compete with him? Before the tour, I (and every bookie) expected Roglic and Pogacar to be a level above the rest just like last year, with their closest rival being Thomas. Thomas looked out of sorts from stage 1, and crashed, and Carapaz was never really expected to be on the Pogacar/Roglic level IMHO, and he's had to work harder than Pogacar over the last few days, especially yesterday. Also have to factor in that Pogacar hasn't crashed (as far as I know). Looking at all of that, his performance isn't that unexpected, even though it is amazing. It's also only stage 8.... I'm having flash backs of the 2018 Giro where Yates dominated everyone for 18 days, and then mega-cracked and lost it all.

And in this tour de France he is competing against people who crashed, had an injury before the tour (van Aert) , or people like Lutsenko, who are great riders but aren't climbing god's.
