    "They Came Back" doesn't just focus on the socio-political problems that having a mass of functioning undead could cause. The film's ending emphasizes the central theme of how we choose to accept the death of a loved one and grieve. During the conclusion, the Returned all try to walk away at night, go into a tunnel, and disappear into the afterlife. Yet, through three sets of characters during this ending, we see the varied reactions to this phenomenon. The Mayor finds his returned wife Martha , and although he tries to take her back home, he ultimately chooses to join her in death. Six-year-old, returned Sylvain spends much of the film at night clawing to get out of his home and finally does by the ending despite his parents Isham and Véronique declaring that they will never lose him again. And Mathieu finally details what happened on the night of his fatal crash to his wife, Rachel , before leaving her forever. With the Mayor, we witness an acceptance of not only a loved one's death but also his own. Meanwhile, Sylvain's parents represent denial, as they can't let go of their son. And finally, Rachel gets closure and a proper chance to say goodbye to Mathieu.

    My take is that it's an obvious metaphor for grief. Many people had possibly moved on but if anyone were to face this situation, having a loved one come back from the dead, we think it would be the same as always, but it wouldn't. They'd know what happens after death, how meaningless earthly life was, that's why they are sluggish and don't really innovate or have initiative, they know what happens at the end. They experienced feeling no pain, no sickness, so they are not interested in being alive anymore. They act based on the memories from their lives but I think it's just the way their families remembered them, that's why they can't come up with new things, because they are gone. It's difficult for some of the living people to let them go, so they also struggle with the return. The message I get is that we must accept death and remember the ones we've lost but never to expect to have them back on this earth. I'm an atheist so honestly it's tough to think how their lives ended and there were things that could never be said, how there's no "afterlife" to enjoy and for them to look out for me, but it's also way easier for me to come to terms about how death is inevitable and just the way it is, and to let go of them.

    I always find it odd that in every movie/book scenario where people come back from the dead, like returning from the Thanos snap, the populous is always happy to have their spuse, kid, grandparent etc back. There is never a plot where someone is horified that their abusive spouse or disabled to the point of burden kid comes back. As someone who had an abusive father who later became bed bound for 4 years and finally died; it was a relief he was gone. I feel for all those who had their worst relationships come back.

  • @thesimslover82884

    @thesimslover82884

    2 жыл бұрын

    Well for one thing, a person in a movie that hated their disabled child coming back, wouldn't be seen in a positive light. The truth is only people who don't deserve to have children, would feel relief, to have their child die. Losing a child, is the most painful, horrible experience, anyone could go through. For a lot of people death brings denial, so I could very much see that despite a spouse being abusive, the living spouse might initially be happy. Of course that happiness wouldn't last.

    although it’s a bit unsatisfying that it just ends i feel like the reason it does is because death is kinda like that, it leaves us asking ourselves why has this happened to me when we lose a loved one and ultimately life will never give us that answer. we lose people that we love so dearly and feel like the world took them on purpose to hurt us or to make us grow but in reality it’s just the way life is and we can either accept it like rachel, deny it like the parents or the saddest imo follow our loved ones to the grave like the mayor and martha. maybe the fact the dead blew up a bunch of shit before they disappeared is kinda representing how death comes and wrecks the lives of those left behind mourning. i haven’t watched the full movie so idk but i feel like from what i know this movie was intentionally leaving it on such a unsatisfying ending

    @@osamabit8454 Yoo, I don’t know how old you are but if you’re young I hope you get can come up with a conclusión to my claims: I get what you are getting at, life IS cruel, but it is also PRECIOUS. I’m not here to tell you why self-harm or suicide is good or bad because ultimately it is wrong. But I’m Open Minded and sometimes we just have to hear the Stone Hard Truth, and it can be painful. If you have a life that is just pain, people will want to COPE depending on each one’s way of viewing at things. Some may just kill themselves or kill others because of the damage they were inflicted. Some may not accept the reality of their situation and create false fantasies which will probably end up hurting even more. Whatever the case, it still stands that even if one has so much HOPE or FAITH on something a lot of times (not fact checked but dependable on the person) such HOPES or FAITHS will never be realized. When that happens many will just give up. If you try to help them it will be hard because they don’t see the world as YOU anymore or others. But if you show them how life can be BAD and also GOOD. With a lot of love, and empathy you will save countless lives. That’s one of my goals. To save people from the ever growing new death cause: suicide. They even say that eventually it will surpass the death toll for other things and will be considered worrisome.

My grandmother told us she wanted to be buried with her favorite fur coat and we granted her wish. I told them I don't want a wedding gown but my uniform, if I die young and unmarried. I remember when this series first came out in the Uk , I went and bought the entire online and box-set before the filming had even been completed! Then, the second series took a very long time to show itself so I resigned myself to the idea that I’d been scammed !! I never did see any of it after the first series! Glad to see the series was finally completed! The Ending seemed disappointing... I’m still crying over my lost money!!

    I might be mistaken but I think this is an allegory for the return of many thousand displaced and presumed dead after WWII. Land, property, possessions, jobs etc had been reallocated/stolen so returnees and areas they returned to faced some of the same issues. The emotional/cognitive differences were due to the trauma of being kept in camps and tortured.

    Moral of the story in my opinion: If ever your loved ones came back to life, they aren’t the same anymore as you met them before they die due to the fact they experienced the actual meaning of “peace”. They still recognize and love you but in a whole different way of showing it.

    If this actually happens irl I'd would be so happy to have my dad back especially if he is 100 percent healthy but when I notice the everything I'd be heart broken just to lose him all over again I'd definitely not be able to handle losing my dad a second time. My mental health plummeted after the first time and I'd definitely end up killing myself a second time. He was my best friend
