The day 16 year old Wayne Rooney frightened Manchester United in 16 minutes cameo performance!

Спорт

"The day 16 year old Wayne Rooney frightened Manchester United in 16 minutes cameo performance" is a highlights montage of the teenage prodigy's exciting introduction to the Premier League. Facing off against the reigning league champions in the 2002 Manchester United vs Everton fixture, Rooney came off the bench with a mere 16 minutes of the match to go - enough time for the Everton wonder boy to confirm his status as the most exciting and talented player of his generation.
Demonstrating the exquisite touch, skills, vision, raw power and aggression that would eventually see him shatter Sir Bobby Charlton's 30+ years goal scoring records for both England and Manchester United, it is easy to forget the impact his introduction into the league had on the English game as a whole. Twenty years later, Wayne Rooney has secured his legacy as an all time great for Everton, Manchester United and England. This was the cameo that gave us a glimpse at what was to come. Enjoy!!

I've been watching football religiously for over 30 years and in that entire time I have seen 3 teenagers who have blown me away with their ability at that age. Ronaldo 9, Lionel Messi and Wayne Rooney. I actually remember watching this game and thinking I haven't ever seen an English player this good as a teenager. Rooney should have gone on to be one of the best players of all time. He was a generational talent. Unfortunately some ill discipline and application off the pitch stopped him from going on to be the best English footballer of all time.

As an Everton fan, I agree with this. The period when he was just breaking into the team was very special because he was only 16 and we used him sparingly but you could see experienced international defenders bricking when he came on. That Utd game I think we were 3-0 down and he comes on and the last 15 mins is all about him. He did the same against Liverpool at Anfield. He comes on and all of sudden there entire defence looks worried. He had an amazing career but part of me still thinks he underachieved. He was a more complete footballer than CR7.

@@KevinSheedy10Definitely underachieved in terms of modern day preparation..... He admits himself that he drank too much... The most devastating Rooney was when he was a teenager..... He was agile, quick...

@@KevinSheedy10he was a complete footballer though, he could shoot and pass from anywhere, could play anywhere on the pitch you asked him to, is able to play in a possession based side, defensive, counter attacking or even long ball side if you wanted him to, could header, score from the halfway line, do bicycle kicks and press like an absolute monster. Hell, he was also the top goal scorer for both club and country! All this while always having to accommodate for others in his career (without ever complaining about it) whether it was for Ronaldo, Tevez, Berbatov, RVP or Ibrahimovic, Rooney still put up insane numbers having played at the top level from 16 years old, and broke all the records whilst winning every club trophy possible, he is undoubtedly a complete and unselfish player. Could you really say cr7 is able to press like a monster? or play in any position without crying about it or having to accommodate for others? Just look at CR7s last few years at Juve, Utd or Portugal, everyone is having to accommodate to suit his style of play, but not once in Rooney's career were people saying that "X team has to change how/who they play" just to help Rooney out
