You are a super Lehrerin. I always start everything with... Bismillaah... in the name of God Almighty. It makes everything easy for me. I am learning Deutsch to make the German people happy. Every year they visit my country in huge numbers and I want to welcome them here in their own language. So, after saying BISMILLAH, I start my Deutsch classes with Anja. Vielen dank, Anja. You classes are really super. Thanks a lot. I have learnt a lot from you. Keep going. Lots of love from Bahrain and Oman. Shukran.

If you are unable to write: ü ö ä ß, then use these letter combinations: ue (ü) , oe (ö), ae (ä), ss (ß). Plus "Unterricht" is masculine, not feminine. Therefore, you would say: dein Unterricht ( masculine & nominative & singular ) it is grammatically masculine, but it doesn't matter who gives the lesson (man or woman) because the word - Unterricht - isn't one of those words that directly corresponds to the actual gender of the speaker, such as words like these words do: die Frau - the woman, der Mann - the man. Try not to associate too closely the nouns' genders with the gender of whomever is speaking. This is because, a man or woman could make the same statement such as: Ich habe ein Auto (I have a car). the noun "Auto" doesn't match the speaker's gender, it remains grammatically neutral, like - der Wagen (the car) remains - masculine regardless if a female or male has it, or drives it, etc. However, in my opinion perfect grammar is less important than being understood. But, now and then proper grammar is necessary. (glücklich / gluecklich) (bitteschön / bitteschoen). Plus all nouns and words used as nouns in German are capitalized. Plus the pronoun "sie" gets capitalized at the beginning of a sentence too. Whether it means "they" or "you".

shouldn't it be - ich lerne noch "in der Schule" rather than "in die Schule", because "in die" is the accusative, which shows movement or direction towards, or away from... in der Schule - shows location. Generally, one does not say "still learn go into the school, but i still learn at school. Ich bin in der Stadt - i am in the city. Ich lerne Deutsch in der Stadt. - I learn German in the city. Ich werde nach Deustchland reisen, und lerne Deutsch in der Schule. Also, "Anja kannst du mir sagen ob mein Deutsch schon gut ist?" But it is "das Lied /ein Lied not einen Lied."

  • @maraboo72

+Chris Saggau You never heard anyone use it because it has a different meaning. "Bei der Schule" would mean somewhere near to the building. Perhaps : "Ich lerne Deutsch auf der Wiese bei der Schule." So gramatically it is not wrong to say "bei der Schule", but being a German I never heard it, too, because "Ich lerne Deutsch bei der Schule" doesn't really make sense. BUT: "Ich lerne Deutsch in der Schule bei meinem Lehrer."

Francisco Vazquez "muss ich zum Zahnarzt" is definitly "okay" :) but it's "nach Hause" or "zu meinem Haus" (a little bit weird but okay if you want to emphasize "my house" for example when there are construction works or anything else. "Ich gehe nach Hause" is more like "I go home".

Are Germans happy about all this grammar? Does the average German actually get their grammar right? English speakers aren't terribly happy about English spelling. English spelling is crazy but we can't change it because we own so many books.

They are generally quite apathetic about grammar. They all speak well, but few remember the rules.

If you a native speaker you don't need to know the rules, you are the rules. ;) It's actually very easy for native german speakers.

I am from Brazil. Here in Brazil, we understand very well a foreigner trying to speak Portuguese, even he makes a lot of grammar mistakes, Our grammar is so difficult as the German one, but the datails of the grammar rules are not so important in a normal conversation. Mistakes in this area don't stop us from understanding a Portuguese foreigner student trying make a conversation. The most important is the communication , not the rules! that's why children learn any language so quickly, because they are not stuck in the Grammar Rules them just wanna talk. Of course, if we are doing a test at school or making a document or even talking politely in high level, we must use all the grammar rules, but besides it, that is normal. That is not that big problem at all.
