    As someone whose dad and brother has had schizophrenia i can say theyve had both religious breakdowns and hallucinatory episodes about people they've seen on TV going so far as to say they can talk to them etc, im well versed on the matter so at the end of the day i dont pay it any mind because you cant allow people with these kind of illnesses to believe its anything other than that or it could be volatile to their health and/or others, in episodes regardless of where they come from, we're from the UK and my dad has apparently spoken to god or allah whatever you wanna call him

  • @Fernando_Monroy

    @Fernando_Monroy

    7 ай бұрын

    The mind is really something, I’m not sure if it’s some imbalances (if that’s even the right term or I just sound like an idiot lol) or maybe there are some genetic and environmental factors that can cause such weird distortions of reality, maybe with reason someone can realize that it’s some mental disorder and not something that requires a far more ridiculously far fetched explanation. I for one don’t believe in a particular god but this event you described adds to my suspicion that some people’s hallucinations may be based on their beliefs, conceptions, or just ideas to be broad. I think the topic is interesting but you don’t even have to be at that degree of crazy to simply fool yourself with your senses, perceptively or what not, think about it, we as a species have evolved to see patterns even when they aren’t, and I as one who has dealt with certain individuals who fall for these biases, to my end it’s as if they’re “hallucinating” (can be pretty annoying but that’s a whole different story). And yes, we all can fall for these cognitive errors but it’s a good thing to make sure not.

While the majority of their auditory hallucinations were mean, scary and tormenting a couple ppl heard the voices of family members, angels or God. Some hallucinations, mainly visual ones, were sometimes funny to individuals. This was the exception however. I do agree culture definitely shapes our understanding of schizophrenia and the symptoms ppl with it experience.

    18:04 This one is idiotic. Californication, to me, is more like a modern version of Hotel California. So much of the lyrics allude to California being place, loaded with people seeking fame at all costs. “It’s understood, that Hollywood, sells Californication.” - Sex Sells. The part about the girls from Sweden, is about the desire of even people from far away countries, being attracted to the glitz and glamor of Hollywood. California is a graveyard of broken dreams and desperation. Because not everyone can make it. And the aspiring actors/singers/musicians/ will do anything in order to make it big. Including attempting to screw their way to the top. “Everybody’s been there, and I don’t mean on Vacation” could be a reference to the casting couch.

    Damn... The regional schizophrenia thing trips me out... I used to smoke weed quite a bit and I would get into a super weird headspace - like "paranoia" - as a lot of people would try to suggest - doesn't even come close. If general weed high paranoia was like say a 4, whatever the deal was with me ranged from like 8-10. A counselor/therapist type of guy called it existential anxiety. Just like weird intrusive thoughts, major panic attacks/anxiety and stuff like that. But the thing that made me want to comment this is, it was actually several years after I quit smoking weed and a friend talked me into trying some of his stuff - which even the stuff that messed me up so bad was just like low quality reg type stuff and this was supposed to be some kind of high grade medical stuff (which I had always avoided given how much regular stuff affected me) but it was supposed to help with anxiety and stuff so I smoked some. I thought I was okay at first but when I got into my truck to leave that night, I could _physically_ hear my parents' voices scolding me for smoking and for smoking and driving. I'm 37 now and was probably 30 then - so I'm an adult and I haven't lived with my parents since I was like 18 or 19 so I'm not some kind of "mama's boy manbaby" type of deal - I'm just close with my folks and they're straight shooters and still always give me that tough love, life advice type stuff. But yeah, I could physically hear my mom being like, "Oh what are you doing?! You shouldn't be driving. You're going to have a wreck. You better buckle up" and maybe my dad being like "Boy, you're acting stupid" or something like the old-fashioned tough dad type talk. That's the only time I think I've ever physically heard voices of someone who wasn't there. However, another part of the weed anxiety thing was, I could sometimes _almost_ hear like God and Satan fighting over my soul. It wasn't exactly physical speech but very close - I just totally got that super strong notion/vibe/feeling very clearly. And I'm highly religious - Christian - and always have been so it was highly distressing but, it was almost like Satan was trying to convey that God is the bad guy and he was trying to lead me astray... Now that was very _bothersome_ . But yeah, I've never been diagnosed with anything beyond depression and anxiety - certainly nothing close to schizophrenia. But I've heard new studies have shown that weed can exacerbate existing cases of schizophrenia as well as activate a dormant case of it as well as several other psychoses. And kind of working from that angle, I'm a westerner but I'm also super close with my family - and I've also _essentially_ heard the voices of my parents as well as basically hearing like almost telepathic voices of God and/or Satan.. So I don't know what that means in terms of the regional schizophrenia. I don't think I have it but I think my mind is just the type to operate right on the borders of different psychoses like that..

    You know what I found amusing? I remember when Subway was promoting their subs for weight loss as being better than other fast food options. A cursory comparison of subway vs McDonald sandwiches/burgers show that McDonalds often comes out even or lower than Subway. Surprisingly, McDonalds on average had less sodium. Sugar and fat was higher with McDonalds but not by so much that it would make Subway the superior choice. My takeaway back then was that not only was Subway misleading about their food, they also foisted a ped into our lives
