I love how incredibly complex this messaging is. It feels like doing this, even he knows this isn't right. Joker in a way *does* win by falling into the shadows for a while. They lose their true protector just to "feel" safer. But he's willing to take those punches because Bats plays the long game in keeping his city safe. Gotham has no short term future, if it's shit now, it'll be shit in a year. But to have hope that SOMEDAY it'll get better, Bruce will do ANYTHING for that dream. He only wants to be there as Batman when it's truly necessary.

Noticed what Gordon switched when he says to his son vs to the press that Batman is the hero we deserve but not the one Gothem needs. Even more of a lie than what he told the press.

I think weve all watched this so many times that we forget its greatness

This is the day when Batman admitted that he will not be Superman or at least Harvey Dent, so he is forced to take the blame for Dent's criminal activities, and even for the DA's death so that Gotham City will enjoy relative peace through the Dent Act. After that, Bane came around and his terrorist attacks figuratively broke the spirit of the city, forcing its people to face the grim reality.

Goosebumps everytime

It makes me mad, this, as everything goes to shit (with Fox leaving n everything), but it makes me respect batman more than...almost any other hero ever, actually. He is totally selfless and dedicated to justice. And all freakin powerful! D

Fox didn't quit. Bruce set the sonar spying program to self destruct when Fox signed out, to his surprise and relief. That's why his "faith was rewarded."

Yeah that’s shown in DC and Marvel. Even when they save the day others still blame them even though it wasn’t their fault sometimes.

What's funny is that they're all saying Dent's reputation would have been destroyed, but frankly, I'm pretty sure most people would have sympathized with a lot of what he did -- not all of it, but some of it. They just needed to tell the truth and provide context -- he suffered a terrible personal tragedy and injury, went into a mental health crisis, and took vigilante justice on crooks and corrupt cops. The worst thing he does is threaten Gordon's family, but he didn't succeed. It's not good, but it's not so scandalous that everyone would immediately want his prosecution of the mob undone for some reason.

The problem is that they bet literally everything on the prosecution being headed by Dent. It's not that people would necessarily resent him for going nuts and killing people, it's that his mental break would call into question literally everything he did as DA and how that prosecution happened. It could risk some of the illegal things he did even while he was sane being found out about, like the gunman he took hostage and threatened for information on Rachel. He's their golden boy, the one who was supposed to be Gotham's white knight. His reputation dies as a mentally broken murderer, crooked cops and criminals or not.

Back when I first saw this movie, I was a little kid and I was obsessed with it. Watched it every day after school, but being so young, I never understood why they went after him in the end. Every time I rewatch this movie as an adult I’m just amazed at the ending, and find it funny how I never got it as a kid

In that moment batman had no other choice, it was him or the kid, but i always think that batman do this by accident and he dosen't really wanted to kill harvey dent to save gordon's son, he just pull him away or that's what i'm thinking

@vickram aditya but you were right. The whole point of the movie was by the end of the night, batman was going to break his one rule. And even though he fought the obvious bad guy and won, he had to face an even greater threat, one he didn't even know existed. Someone two faced. Someone conflicted but no matter what tried to do the right thing. And it didn't reward him. In fact, it took everything away from him. And it broke him. So he relied on his true self to set things right and wouldn't be told that there's another way, because he already tried that. At the end of the night, Batman didn't kill a bad guy, but instead killed a person who was ready to shatter.

The hero we deserve

Probably the best move ending of all time!

Feel like they could have blamed those deaths on the Joker .If you are going to lie about it , do it in a way that hurts no person alive .

Problem is, lots of Gordon’s cops knew where the Joker was that night. And he was in custody by the time Harvey’s final moments happened

@@Shiggystardust To start with, no one else could take the blame for Harvey's death. There was literally a perimeter with cops around it. They would have noticed someone slipping in. You mean to tell me that they would believe two people could slip in and out of a perimeter like that. Second, you kind of miss the point. They could not just cover up the five deaths because there would be an investigation. By blaming Batman, they stop an investigation from taking place

@@Shiggystardust We are literally talking about Batman, who is literally a ninja. There is no debate that that is a special exception. And while you have a point, that at that point half the police force was corrupt, eventually someone might have figured out that the district attorney was killed yet the police commissioner and his wife and family were left perfectly unharmed. Not to mention, the Joker would have denied everything.

“Five dead. Two of them cops.” That’s not right. Harvey technically only killed two people: Detective Wuertz and Maroni’s driver. Maroni died with his driver because he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and Harvey spared Ramirez because his coin landed on heads.

Ramirez died when Harvey punched her. She fell off the clip same as him. And they said five dead, not five murders so if you count Harvey that is five people.

@@josephn9251 The boats weren’t the goal. He wanted to corrupt either Batman, Dent, Gordon, or all of them. The boats were more of his mind games. Yes, he showed disappointment when neither boat exploded, but his endgame was Gotham’s big 3. And he succeeded. He corrupted Dent.

But not Batman and Gordon. Batman even made sure the Joker would never win by taking the fall for Dent’s actions. Which is similar like if Batman killed Joker for something he actually didn’t do then the joke would be on Joker because he would want Batman to kill him for something he actually did but not for something he didn’t do.

They alr knew where batman was at with the joker and multiple cops already knew there was a situation with Harvey (they didn’t know if it was as bad a situation ofc). When Gordon gets the call from Barbara, some cops are giving him side eyes when he says “Harvey?”.
