Really agree with your take on it not fitting well into the rest of the superhero lexicon (maybe barring the whole part where batman gets linked into the live net, or whatever). Even the most exciting moments are fairly grounded. Fun fact; the whole glascow/joker smile stories inspired a lot of early creepypasta, which has turned into a whole genre of young writers and published works. I was just out of high school when this came out. I'd say for most people my age this was almost a cultural phenomenon.

Interesting how your perception of the movie changed. I liked it when I first watched it but would that change if I watch it again? I have the trilogy in my collection so I will have to test that some time.
