Personally I think it is a fraction of Khaine. I mean think about it. He has Khornate traits and hates Slaanesh maybe Khorne used some of the fragments from when he 'saved' Khaine from Slaanesh to force his followers to make a powerful blade or weapon. Although I can't remember if Khorne saving Khaine is still canon or not...if not it could be a blade of Eldar origin that operates similar to an Avatar of Khaine.

  • @40KTheories

I don't believe it's Khaine for a few reasons: 1) Khorne being the master of Khaine is not canon, despite their similarities. While Khorne tried to claim Khaine as a trophy from Slaanesh he failed miserably. 2) The blade can't be destroyed, yet the shards of Khaine that do exist (avatars) have been shown to be destroyed time and time again (almost anyone can kill one it seems; Calgar, Lorgar, A Keeper of Secrets hell even a Genestealer Patriarch became one...) 3) Given the official art from the novel Castellan (which is used in this video and as the thumbnail) the blade appears distinctly 'Chaotic' in origin given the Star of Chaos being incorporated into its design with little (if any) Aeldari-esque similarities. 4) Shards of Khaine generally only become conscious after a blood sacrifice has been offered to them, whereas the blade is conscious 24/7

It's possible that whatever the hell is inside the Blade of Antwyr could very likely be a shard of a God, like a Norscan interpretation of Khorne if we're assuming it came from Warhammer Fantasy since the Norscans don't refer to the Chaos Gods as Khorne, Slaanesh, Tzeentch or Nurgle and instead refer to them as the Hound, Crow, Eagle and Serpent. It's possible that it could be a shard of what Norscans knew as the Hound, especially with the wording in its quote from Warden of the Blade, implying that the Slaaneshi Keeper of Secrets was a flat out insult to its honor.

I think it is an undivided God formed around the act of the first sword ever made. He is mentioned as the Sword-God and he incites bloodlust from the wielder and jealously from those who don't have it. Imagine going to battle with a club or axe and seeing a dude with a sword I'd be jealous.

being a grey knight player myself, I would like to think of it as being an ancient chaos god. one that represented hate, greed, envy, and temptation. in past editions, the blade was said to not only attempt to manipulate the wielder, but also those that were in the vicinity of the blade as it would incite hatred towards the wielder and force others into desiring the weapon itself.

I have a theory in regards to Emps and Drach'Nyn The Emperor during the battle in the webway slaughtered countless daemons with essentially his mere pressence alone. Even greater daemons would just outright slaughtered by him. Yet Drach'Nyen was his equall appereantly and nearly managed to kill Emps even. In fact it states that it will be the one to kill the Emperor and that appereantly only it was even capable of doing such thing. And considering that its very possible that the main 4 Chaos gods, and the main 4 Eldar gods are essentially one and the same being but with different representation Khain - Khorn Nurgle - Isha Tzeench - Chegorach Slaanesh - Ynneat Hence why its the "8" pointed start, despite there only being 4 main Chaos gods. Couldnt the same thing also count with the Emperor and Drach'nyen? That the two of them are Chaos God like entities born from Humanity by accidend? That Drach'Nyen represnts humanites murderes and dark nature, where as the Emperor represents the strength and nobility of humanity? And that the reason why Emps could or did not want to kill it, is that he in turn would most likely die himself? Hence why Nurgle safed Isha, Tzeench was in part resonsible for Chegorach escaping, Khorn "safing" Khain from Slaanesh / using Khain as a meele weapon against Slaanesh. Because elsewise they themselvs would probably die or something off them would die. And the late born Slaanesh is equall to the late Yenneat.

that the emperor was vulnerable to Drach'nyen had something to do with the fact that Drach'nyen was being empowered by all 4 chaos gods( trial run for horus?)… And maybe because of what Drach'nyen represents , Drach'nyen is the personification of the sin of kin slaying(at least it is implied to be the case, kain and abel etc) and the emotional release of the act. In master of mankind, the emperor showed Ra that he himself was all so guilty of that 1 sin(he killed his uncle because his uncle had killed his father, so what his uncle did was emotionally painful for the emperor*). It was the one time when he let emotion rule over his reason, maybe his only mental weakness because it's the only flaw he has. in the warp it's all about what you believe and what you feel. karma is a bitch , even for the big E *so Drach'nyen is kinda sort of made from the one thing that is painful to the emperor, again in the warp is all about believe and feelings.

I don't know, it sounds pretty Khorney to me. When you mentioned shards, the only thing that came to my mind where the Shards of the C'Tan, but I highly doubt it would be one of those, especially if it threatens on the behalf of the dark gods. Though if I were to guess it could be the manifestations of a symbol, such as how swords are seen to be the cause of so much bloodshed and violence, it could be the manifestation of that and since that kind of falls under Khorne it could theoretically serve him. If I make sense, I'm still learning about 40k and Chaos isn't exactly my forte.

So, I just sat down with the Grey Knight 7th ed Codex, and unless the 8th Ed codex contradicts it, here's what I got from it: Antwyr does NOT seem to be a servant of, or part of, the Dark Pantheon. Quote: "Demons are creatures of Vindictive hatred, and their endless schemes are spun out over eternity as they fight for the souls of mortals. Antwyr is an ancient being, and no stranger to the servants of the Dark Gods, having crossed them m any times in its long existence."

There is also this quote from Warden of the blade: In the midst of the gunfire and unholy song, the Black Blade of Antwyr snarled its way into Crowe’s mind. "This is opportunity. This is Chaos. Seize the hilt and strike, strike, strike, strike, strike."

My thought after hearing that the Blade of Antwyr came form a heathen temple of "Antwyr", I would think that it holds the daemonic expression of that religion, which would make the blade unique and powerful indeed. I really happy to see that such an option was touched upon.

I agree it could be a shard of khaine it really would explain alot about the blade however i also think that the premis of it being a demon of chaos undivided is goood also as the blade is black amd gold traditionally the colours of chaos undivided and features the united star of chaos at the hilt and the sword being indistructable also hints at this as the sword is undivided and unbreakable as it had no faults

I am wondering ... if an act that have a lot of impact makes a warp entity - that'd mean that there might be THE FIRST warp entity , that was made out of an act of forgeing the blade. And that , in turn - serve in war . So the name ,,Sword God" might be refering to the forge of said sword ... unless ... there is another thing ~ The Emperor's Sword . It is said that every being , every thing have it's reflection inside the warp ... wouldn't The Emperor's Sword be the same ? And The Blade is just ... it's twisted reflection ?

I'm not sure what specifically happened to Hashut, but I don't think it was confirmed that they died. The Chaos Dwarfs did make it to AoS, they show where they live on one of the maps (a big island fortress), so Hashut's people still are there in the lore. I'm sure GW is waiting to drop them at some point here. Since they already have the 'Fyreslayers', my guess is they're going to lean hard into the 'Demonic Engineers' element of the Chaos Dwarfs, but with some Pirate flare now.

So, a theory here. The sword promises glory, power, revenge and immortality. Imortality properly just means that you become a demon, but the rest is all achieved by becoming a warrior(as the thing is a sword i assume it would not make you a master manipulater which would also give you the above) also, it seems to like combat. This leads me to belive it is either a demon of khorn that represents martial skill, the absolute focus of a skilled warrior, not overcome by rage or hatred but rather focused on the act of fighting in itself. Or it might be a minor chaos god representing the same thing.

Has the recording of Antwyr's words ever resulted in Psychic phenomena like summoning a daemon or making a warp rift? Daemons of chaos undivided might be willing to take such desperate steps, while daemons of Khorne would never stoop to using sorcery themselves except fot summoning their fellow brethren

I would propose that the entity of the Blade is probably Antwyr itself. By swapping the name in the codex to “Antwyr, the Sword-God”, it seems to imply that the Grey Knights deem the being separate from any major Chaos god. Crowe has also used it against demons of all four gods, and even though we know it has a particular hatred for Slaanesh, it could harbor the same resentment for every god and we don’t know it. My theory as a Grey Knights player is that Antwyr would be a major daemon of Chaos Undivided, born from the very first sword ever being forged. The blade is indestructible and corrupts anyone who uses it, even other Grey Knights, who also use swords. Much of the entire universe of Warhammer 40k uses swords in some way, thus a daemon created when the first sword was forged probably would be nearly indestructible as a blade, and the offer for power, glory and blood of enemies is a thing all swords technically offer to their wielders, whether sentient or not. Also, Crowe has a unique ability that will enact a single combat with any opponent, presumably because the Blade taunts his foe into killing him. The sword seems to hold a great deal of honor, despite the rage and twisted lies it can sometimes produce. By doing this, the sword either seems to reaffirm that it’s in the right hands or is seeking one more worthy of its powers. While I don’t know the full extent of the Blade’s origins, I’m pretty sure that this entity is either one of the most powerful greater daemons to exist, or its a unique god of swords that exists as long as blades are used on the battlefields.

Dark Future was a tabletop game made by Games Workshop in the late 80s (and recently had a video game adaptation) that's essentially GW's take on Mad Max before they revisited it with Gorkamorka. It had several novels, including one featuring Elvis Presley as a bounty hunter. Yeah it's pretty nuts

If the multiverses in WH40k are the same as the multiverse theory we have, all possible realities exist. This would mean that there is a reality where everything the Emperor ever wanted, succeeded. That Emperor has the ability to fix everything wrong in every other reality and eliminate chaos completely, but for some reason hasn't. Some might consider this a paradox. Unless of course, the Emperor of Mankind is also Tzeentch.

Could it be a c'tan shard? That too would be difficult to destroy, the emperor did not destroy the void dragon, though that could have different reasons. A shard would surely have the power to manipulate and consume souls. Then again it would not explain it's connection with warp entities and it's many references. Or does it, i'm looking at you Trickster...
