The Czech Benoni: Lecture by GM Ben Finegold
Ойындар
In the Czech Benoni, also known as the Hromadka Benoni, after Karel Hromádka, Black plays 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 e5. The Czech Benoni is more solid than the Modern Benoni, but also more passive.

Ben's got some level of composure not to begin on the game where he beat the former world no 2

where is Vat Else originally from
Anxiously awaiting the "sac all your pieces and resign" lecture.
Came here to Czech the Czech comments and was not disappointed.
"He blundered his queen and played for 15 more moves Thats how much they respect me" hahaha
That’s me in the corner 🎶 That’s me on the chess board, losing all my pieces And I don’t think Hans ever cheated Oh no I’ve said too much, I’ve said enough
You’re right about the name length in relation to strength of opponent. I played against John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt… and it was a draw.

Started playing this after Ben mentioned it in some past lectures. Love it, since my opponents have 0 fun, which means I'm having a lot
I am from NYC and run into Asa Hoffman sometimes. He recently turned 80, is still active in chess and can hold his own especially in blitz. He has a unique background with lots of interesting stories. A lecture topic perhaps?
This lecture just shows me that no one in this audience should pay the Czech benoni

Meh at around 1500-1600 people understand pawnbreaks
I understand the mentality behind this opening a bit better now. It's a bit like the various hedgehog formations where black stays on the first three ranks and sets up various breaks, while white tries to dominate the board and restrict black's movement. The difference is that in the hedgehog the center is fluid as opposed to closed, so there are more tactical opportunities. When I play the hedgehog with either color I always run into tactical trouble where the rubber meets the road. I might like the Czech Benoni. Been looking for something to replace my Nimzo-QID repertoire because I've gotten dissatisfied with the QID part. I'd been trying the modern Benoni but the road is too well-trodden.

Agree. Christof Selecki also has a good book on these setups in the Nimzo.

Wonderful, thanks.
@6:35 bg4 traps the queen
Czech, please...and thank you.
Played someone at my local chess club this morning who hit me with this opening. After the game, where I obviously had no idea what to do as white, he said Ben finegold made a video. Now I have to study so he doesn't hit me with it again. Thanks Ben.
Got into a similar position with black a week ago and didn't know any theory. I ended up getting crushed. This lecture will surely help with that. Probably still will get crushed but that's because I blunder...maybe I should stop blubdering and then become a good player.

Did you mean blundering or blubbering? I think you should stop doing both.
You did not remark that black played g6 after white moved his bishop, so that Bh6 takes two moves.
6:05 Ah yes, fianchettoing the knight
it was vidit v firouzja (the game with Kd3)
It was Vidit. Versus Firouzja.
I actually heard of Asa Hoffman because he was in a movie called Searching for Bobby Fischer. I don't remember if they found him.
As a Czech viewer - thanks. Also, SOLID!
Anond? I thought his name was Anand. This is helpful because I'm trying to learn benoni.

Yes, Anand is pronounced "Anond". Similarly, benoni is pronounced "bonunu"
Hope you do a Benoni course on Chessable. I see you have a 1.d4 and Sicilian so maybe I will check out your Sicilian one instead.

Great lecture by the way, as usual!
Firouzja Vs Vidit*, not Gukash
Great choice for a lecture. Almost too good
I wonder if he means old Ben Benoni
Czech son of my sorrow!
I'm not good enough to say if Ben is the best grandmaster streaming. But he sure is the best streaming grandmaster
