+GrayArea Harrenhall looked grotty when Twyin Lannister and Arya were there. However it gave me some of my favourite scenes in the show ever between Twyin and Arya. It proved to be quite interesting those scenes when Twyin and the Lannister army were there. And that is also the place where we got to J'quen Hgar in action for the first time.

Harrenhal is the creepiest place in game of thrones even more scarier than the white walkers turf. Harrenhal looks like a dark witch castle from old disney cartoon. Plus, the castle is filled with ghosts.

He probably just brushed it aside as myth, since Harrenhal is a great fief compared to the wretched tower of the fingers. Harrenhal was a seat of king and have several vassals sworn to it, it has good amount of income. Plus he got to be lord paramount of Riverland. Its basically a social status boost, that allowed him to marry Lysa Tully and therefore gain influence in the Vale.
