I had fantastic childhood holidays with my aunt in Frinton. going to the beach, beach huts and the greensword. My aunt said the lady in the brown coat standing opposite the gates was a nurse who followed the soldiers up the beaches on DDay and felt that the film ridiculed her just for being elderly and a bit forgetful. Its one thing for the film to highlight the quirkiness of the place but it also ridicules the elderly in a way that appears a little mean to me.

It's worth remembering that a lot of the elderly residents shown here were probably bopping along to Elvis back in the day. Age catches up with us all...

What an odd little documentary, I love programmes like this , some of my favourites are the Cutting edge ones from the early 90's, The Exorcist of Wood Green, The Strangest Village in Britain and Paul Sykes at Large. Can anyone put me on to anymore gems like this? As for this programme i would put money on John being a nonce and what an odd thing to protest about!

Not a very vocal demonstration also agree with Dan it's not full of nutters they have searched for them. Does anyone remember Jimmy Claxton now he was a character. He used to come to the train station and ask all us kids if he was bald. Now he was as bald as a coot but you knew you had to say no Jimmy you have a full head of hair. Mainly because he was the local nutter in late 70's early 80's. As the train pulled away we used to shout Jimmy you bald bastard and he would get the right hump. Oh happy days.

While this might be an entertaining watch, it’s a terrible, judgemental, and one-sided documentary about Frinton-on-Sea and the people who live there. The makers of this documentary appear to have intentionally set out to make the town and its residents appear odd. The camera positioning during interviews is particularly calculated, using a wide-angle lens to keep the person being interviewed in shot while not even having the camera pointing directly at them. You can see this with most of the interviews, where the person is positioned to the extreme left or right of the frame. I suspect some of these people didn’t even know the camera was rolling at times. Additionally, while there are a significant number of benches along the seafront, they chose to use a lens with a large focal length, which causes significant perspective compression and makes everything look closer together, again in an attempt to sell how odd the place is. This is bad filmmaking. The shots of the empty beaches are also complete bullshit. Thousands flock to the beaches during the summer season, and you can hardly move. I could barely get out of my road due to the traffic during the summer months, yet they chose to film it out of season, at a time during which the beaches are empty - just like they would be at any seaside resort. Are there some odd characters? Sure, but that’s no different from any other town in the country. If you go looking for it, you’ll find it everywhere. They also completely avoided the younger population in the town. The only young people they showed were the yobs shouting “wanker” at the railway crossing. Again, you’ll get that anywhere you go in this country. The BBC should be ashamed of this

Agree. Frinton on Sea is far from what the fake press BBC are pushing here. Frinton is probably the more desirable locations and communities to live in from the costal towns alongside it. I'm not from Frinton I must state.

This "documentary" (and I say that in the loosest term possible) makes me really question what we see on TV from the BBC. Regardless of the awfully bad filmmaking, Frinton-on-Sea is a nice resort town. It may not be the most exciting town you'll ever visit, but it has a number of really interesting independent shops, and also has a really nice beach as well. If that's what you're looking for in your visit, then you'll be very happy. Don't fall for the bullshit the BBC are spouting here. This town is no different from many others across the country. BBC, you need to sort your shit out. This is bad filmmaking at the very least. I used to trust you, but after watching this, that won’t happen again.

@@SuperFurry68A As an English man, oh how the BBC would hate that, and living not too far from Frinton on Sea, I can say the documentary is merely the directors personal agenda over reality. The documentary is fine, if it states it portrays merely a minority expression of this seaside town. BBC can not be trusted now for any unbiased and factual journalism and this comes from someone who loved what they produced, especially sitcoms. I know lothe them, no longer fund them, await their inevitable demise and now watch amatuer user generated video content on KZread instead to give a real overview of what is a very desirable seaside town - Frinton on Sea (once again, I do not live there neither ever had).
