As a one-time VP of Suicidal Records, I gotta say, this is the most thorough and accurate summation of Mike's career I've seen yet. That's no small feat, considering the discombobulated subject matter. (Of course, having said so, when you get to the guts of it, dude's pretty combobulated afterall. 😂) That man is a wild amalgamation of many, many things that I'm fairly certain nobody can accurately disseminate. But you hit the most important center. The band is actually more fundamentally important, historic and influential than they'll ever get proper credit for. This is true for different genres, but really the culture of music and music lovers overall in the wide umbrella loosely considered Rock Music. Then there's the collosal influence Muir has left on so many of us non musically talented. So vast. The only part of your doc I don't agree with, is your conclusion that the guy's life may work as some sort of roadmap for those looking to leave their own marks on music. I feel safe declaring that aint nobody going to accomplish anything akin to Mike Muir's legacy. And good f*cking luck if you're trying to sort out the innumerable aspects and the whys and whens of his actions. I highly doubt he could accurately depict that - even if he were willing to. 👻 Serious kudos for your impressive overview, my man. ⭐ ~Sui For Life~

I wonder if I saw him with the Dogtown crew when I was around 7, I need to try to check the date but it might be impossible since their scheduled show turned out to be a non-event due to NO publicity. Someone should have fired for that. I think it was1975 or 6 in the upper parking lot of West Town Mall in Knoxville Tennessee. I lived across the street in an apartment complex and my grandmother lived in the senior assisted living building bordering on the mall parking lot so we ran into them on the way to the mall. There might have been a couple of other onlookers. I remember a couple of them talking to each other about the situation and complaining about there not being any point in doing a show. I remember my grandmother asking them what was going on and they told her who they were and what they were doing, I was excited and bummed at the same time, since nothing happened we left for the mall. I was dying for a skateboard after that so we found the only ones available and my grandmother bought me a ($25.00? Outrageously expensive) hot pink thick plastic Huffy skateboard that I used for many years, I could do a handstand while skating and a couple of tricks but it wasn't exactly the best for that, lol. I'm off to check if my memory serves me correctly, I'll probably be back if anything turns up.... ...Welp, I'm frustrated. I looked up Zephyr skate tour 1975 and nothing, did they even do a tour? What we were supposed to see was a freestyle demonstration to promote skateboarding in a goddamn mall parking lot. Please please please, if you can give me any info I'd be grateful, this is driving me nuts! Who did I see? Were there Z-Boy imposters? Wtf, lol! It was a non-event so there's that. At least they did some boredom skating for us. Thanks.

I'm from Burlington, Iowa & was introduced to Suicidal in 88 at 15 years old by a friend from N. Hollywood, Ca. who introduced me to the self titled debut and "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow" at the same time. I've got to say that I love both albums (as well as everything that I have had the pleasure to hear by them) but I know that the impact of How Will I Laugh was enough to help me keep my head up and not kill myself during my difficult teenage years. I moved to Tucson, AZ in the late 90's and when I was working, it was on the radio that ST we're going to be playing at a small club in Tempe, AZ. with Infectious Grooves opening for them. I emailed thier website and informed Mike Muir about how significantly their music & lyrics had impacted me and my life. I didn't expect it, but I received a response from the iconic frontman and was told to print out said email, take it to the T-shirt booth and ask for someone named "Big Happy" and then he'd see me on that Teusday at the show. I ended up meeting with Infectious and Suicidal and left with not only one helluva life changing experience as well as an autographed Suicidal Bandana. ( Unfortunately the bandanna was stolen later). I was also amazingly honored to have had Mike Muir and Robert Trujillo reffer to me as "Cyco" and believe it that's what I am commonly referred to by pretty much everyone that knows me and what I'm about. To say that Suicidal Tendencies are legendary icons on every genre of music that they have been a part of is a pure understatement. Idk what I would do without them and their motivation to keep my head up and to tell anyone who doesn't care for what I believe in a big FUCK YOU!! with a smile on my face. I'm almost 50 now & it's hard to believe that they've been around 40 years and they've consistently been a source of personal inspiration for my life. I'll forever be CYCO.... ST

When I was in juvenile placement in the early 90's my roommate snuck in FEEL LIKE SHIT/ DEJA VU and MONSTER MAGNET. That particular place sucked, it was called a " shelter". A place that was set up for kids in between being assigned to a more permanent placement. They went through all our shit pretty thorough. They wouldnt let any cassettes in that had: bad language, drug or violence glorification, sex and or drug talk. They would not let us watch " Puff the magic Dragon" because it was about drugs according to them, lol. I wrote Suicidal Tendencies a letter, from there. They did send me a kickass blue sticker that I put on my skateboard. I was hoping for a personal response, but whatever, I'm sure they were busy. And the sticker was really cool. I still hold Rocky George in the highest of guitar hero esteem. What a badass. " Tell em what's up Rocky!"

They played in Monsters Of Rock, 1994 for a 40 thousand +, packed stadium, but also played in small venues, for 2 thousand people. ST is definitely one of my favorite bands of all time and they certainly made my teenager years a whole lot better. Hey, Bro --- I want to say that you did a pretty solid job documenting and producing this video. As someone who was childhood friends with Amery Smith from elementary school and still friends, friends with Bob Heathcoate since elementary school and his wife since elementary school and having met Rocky when he played in a band with one of my closest friends, drummer Sterling Roberts, Bob also played with them and being really into the skate scene of Venice Playa Del Rey, and knowing Mike and his brother Jim as Jim aka RedDog from the DogTown skate team founding member and spending so much free time skating Marina Skatepark home of The Dog Bowl where all world championships were held for pool riding back in the day. I was skating and surfing with Legend Jay Adams and then after the rebirth of skating in the era of Tony Hawk I was skating with Christian Hosoi, Pat Ngoho, Scott Oster, and other legends of skateboarding in the late 1980s early '90s. So as you can tell, I've lived my life in that world. When the original Dogtown ZBoys film was released I was 31 yrs old and living in NorCal and went to the theater alone to watch that movie and it was watching my childhood on the big screen. It was mind blowing. All those guys would get mad at my friends and I for following them around to see where they were skating. In those days you had to keep spots secret, like where someone built a ramp or a halfpipe or if someone was lucky enough to find a pool in a backyard that was skateable. If you didn't keep it secret everyone and their cousin would show up. We had our secret spot at a high rise building in Westwood the parking structure was either 7 or 9 stories and Sunday nights after midnight the gang would meet and we would spend hours racing down, riding elevator back up and that was Hosoi, Oster, Aaron Murray, Ngoho, Dressen, myself, my roommate, a couple other friends that all skated, clubbed and partiied together it was the infamous MCO documented in Thrasher magazine and there is some video also. Just thought I'd share, oh and I have an original ST shirt from back in the very beginning, Westside LA Venice, Del Rey, WestChester Locs for Life

Mike Muir is probably my strongest influence as a writer. I discovered Suicidal when I was 10 and my dad played the Prime Cuts comp. When I heard it kick in to You Can't Bring Me Down I was hooked. Used to draw suicidal posters in my notebooks at school. When kids made up a rumor that I was gonna hurt some kids and I was arrested they used that same album as evidence to how I was disturbed and didn't want to live. In my only statement I said that if they read the inside of the booklet they would understand that's far from true. One of my favorite bands of all time and hard to undersell what this band means to me. Thank you for making this retrospective. I hope it has done well for your channel and I hope your band continues to grow into what you want it to be. Because when making music that's all that matters. As much as the "anti-success" mindset that Muir might of had, I think his message needed to reach a larger scale of people. Even if for just a couple years. Suicidal 4 Lyfe

When I heard they were coming to El Paso Texas I got my ticket and saw them play in a old barn with a dirt floor in front of a pig farm. This was one of the first stops of Join the Army tour. It was Mike, Rocky, louiche, and A.J. What a show! I bought a hat right out of their rental truck ( I still got it). I Even recorded the show on a small cassette recorder! I first heard ST in '85 and caught the release of Join the Army, which blew me the fuck away. How Will I Laugh... is probably my favorite album by the band, although they made a strong case for their further material as I saw them live in Stockholm, Sweden, as part of the Clash of the Titans tour (featuring Testament, Megadeth and Slayer) in 1990. Damn, Mike Muir was a big guy. I also really like the Art of Rebellion, even though the tone borderlines AOR in its softer moments. Still, returning to the roots of the band is nothing short of genius and brings opportunity to younger fans to learn what its all about. Awesome video, man. Suicidal For Life.

Saw S-T last at Louder Than Life Festival in 2021. They are still Cyco, still suicidal. They saved my life as a teenager in the 80's, Mike's words of inspiration helped me climb off the ledge of suicide, and now near 50, an old veteran that was questioning my reasons to live, Mike's same message, again, gave me a new perspective and made me reconsider. One of the few bands that stayed true to their message. While bands from the 90's that got famous with rebellious messages of being anti-gov, anti-war, anti-religion, now they shill for the man, the government, and corporations (RATM, Green Day, etc.) Suicidal has stayed true to their message. Believe in yourself, think for yourself, no one is looking out for you, take care of yourself, take care of each other, and when the man comes and tells you how to think, how to act, what to say, and how to live your life, put that middle finger in the air and tell them "Fuck You"! Suicidal 4 Life!

I rode the bus with a punk rocker who let me borrow his ST institutionalized album. The art with the fellas hanging upside down on the jungle gym was a bit different from what my classmates brought to school. At that time Michael Jackson, Madonna etc was the majority of the album’s. That's the first album I bought, on cassette. But Lights, Camera, Revolution is the one I come back to over and over again. I haven't even heard many of their newer releases (errr, since like 2000). Now I'm curious to check em out. 🤜🏻🤛🏼 206 4 life🤘🤘

Noticed it too (the Dayglos poster). Saw them with Raw Power & the Death Midgets in the basement of the Animal House in Eugene, OR.

I was supposed to see Dayglo in 88 at Gilman but apparently they were turned away at the Northern border. Finally got to see them a few years ago. They were friggin amazing

I saw Suicidal back in 1985, in Miami Beach. My dad was my chaperone, and he met Mike Muir and complemented him. Mike grabbed his head and said "Oh, my god. I'm so embarrased!" Ha ha. Love you Mike! You rock!!

Suicidal was my first major concert. also the band that turned me from punk/hardcore, into the world of thrash metal

I got into ST in the early '90s, starting with Lights, Camera, Revolution. Still the best band all around and I'm listening to any kind of quality music, not only punk/metal.

Opened with 'You can't bring me down' down here in Melbourne supporting AIC. Suffice to say I stage dived on the first chorus and was almost trampled to death. Fun night!
