I made the stage deck and two sets of stairs on this set. I was talking with the construction manager about handrails on the stairs and jokingly asked if I would get sued if Marilyn Manson fell off and he said "No, I should think you would be up for a bonus!" It was a thrill to be involved, always loved The Cure. I sang "Wrong Number" on the stage while it was still in my workshop with just my dog for an audience!

How did the cure get so fucked...cheesy nu metal, pop punk and rap rock bands are going to pay tribute to MTV icon the cure. This shit sounded dated and lame live. MTV 2000s Pop Punk is emotional in the way a 38yo man sings about his 16yo girlfriend. Nu Metal used goth, industrial and shoe gaze in such a superficial way. Shitty compressed guitars, bull shit drum effects, terrible digital sounding vocals. It made everything sound gimmicky and dead on arrival. Last but not least Rap Rock......"I'm 38 and Limp Biscuit is what I do. If I were a painter it would be the type of painting I make" Fred Durst. There were so many good bands at this time.....it's a fucking shame. I don't think The Cure wanted to be part of Oz Feast, Family Vaules tour or The Warped tour. Guess what? U get all 3.

Haha. Watching this in 2021. AFI and Deftones did well, but what an awkward era for this tribute. I can think of countless bands who would have truly knocked out out of the park with sincerity. At least Robert was caught looking uncomfortably amused a few times. Marilyn Manson - who I respect musically - was a hot mess. He acted like such a tool. Slim pickings from the MTV go-to list.

Are you kidding? This was the best era for this tribute! I was disappointed with the Boys Don't Cry tribute.. I think they could have chosen a few better bands to do some of the songs (*cough cough* Blink 182). But AFI and Deftones were chef's kiss perfect and this was the pinnacle of their careers, so it was perfect timing actually. The fact that they had Manson host as well (also perfect timing in his career, as well).. Just iconic 👏 💯

@@MrsGrimm27 Agree to disagree. I saw The Cure for the first time when I was 15 (in 1985 ). The energy was kind of desperate and comical to me - but I can understand that if those bands were your cup of tea, it would be good.

is there a longer version of the intro at 0:36 ? It reminds me of The Godfather Soundtrack.
