The Cult has to be one of the greatest bands of all time; I never tire of listening to them. When I’m feeling down and really ‘pissed off’, a few minutes of Sun King, Fire Woman, or Love Removal Machine at full volume puts me back on an even keel with a smile on my face. I might be an old git at 64 years of age, but these boys make me feel 27 again!

I feel the very same! My parents died recently withing months of each other and the Cult were there for me! Love is my favourite album but Sonic Temple comes a close second! Heck I love all their albums! Love love love Ian's voice and Billy's guitar playing ❤💕

What a weird time for this band, but a lot of the grunge era bands owe a debt to The Cult, no doubt. And Michael Lee was in incredible drummer, no wonder Page and Plant snatched him up a couple years later. Maybe the most solid lineup of this band, musically. Great band, great performance. An all time favorite! Oh, and Billy Duffy is criminally underrated.

Agreed...Seen them in Des Moines a few months back. Ive been to tons of big name concerts and that was my all time favorite. Phenomenal,flawless performance!!!!

Hier was ik bij. Na dit liedje werd Smeets weggehoond vanwege afsluiting van PP, m.b.v. the cult en gaf the cult een toegift ....Wat mij betreft de laatste 'rebelse pinkpop' zoals het zou moeten zijn.

IMHO this is one of the best live performances ever. Whoever was there that day was blessed. The whole band was just incredible, such a perfect and tight lineup. And, may I add, god lived in that freakin' bass.

This was where it all WAS about to end lol...when the lights come up and you see that seemingly endless sea of madness , This was The Cult that made me a member for life ! Blazing Billy Duffy, bending them Strings, Michael Lee pounding, like he thought Page/ Plant were about to come calling, Ian displaying the Front - Man skills what he's really capable of...

He's not dead you know! They made a blistering and rock heavy comeback with Beyond Good and Evil! Billy and Ian promised it would be heavy and dark and it definitely is all of those things! It is now my first Cult album to play ❤🖤

wooooo big it up for the alternative rock scene. late 80's and early 90's were some of the best music. The cult were always a stand-out 80's band cos they were so ahead of their time

I'm a lifer Cult fan. I saw them in in 85 as Death Cult... I see them when they come to Glasgow . I can highly recommend the new LP.... Hidden City... it's fucking awesome...

Ian doesn't have to think he's Jim, he's got his own soul and swing. He's an amazing artist and will always be remembered as one of the greatest front men ever in rock and roll history. googo

Freaking GREAT. The best part? Ian Asbury is so blasted out of his mind, he sings gibberish for the entire first verse. Somewhere, Jim Morrison is tipping his hat.

Gotta love The Cult! Great band live, Ian a charismatic performer and Billy Duffy's a brilliant guitarist! Was listening to Radio 2 Rock show and Josh Todd from Buckcherry chose Ian Astbury as his Rock God! And they played this song.

Ian was definitely on freaking fire! ! Look at that smoke coming off of him!!

Funny how some comments call Astbury a poser for wearing flannel and not leather just to fit in with 90's grunge when anyone can easily see them performing (ironically) Sun King on the Jonathan Ross show in 1989 wearing (ironically) both flannel and leather....

My daughter (she's 11) thinks I have lost my fucking mind watching this. I am squealing like I do every time I see this band. This is incredible.

The Cult always kick ass live! That's why they're still around today. That and awesome albums. Hidden City is amazing!!!!!!!

When they first came out with Fire Woman...I told a friend of mine that he reminded me of Morrison. Then in 2000's they recruted him to sing with them! I was so very excited! Great job Ian!

This was at findsbury Park in 92 I think and 3rd time seeing this Great band man. Ian was so of his head, he slipped up an fuked up the song and I just thought ooohh boo he can't get it together, but he did and will always remember earth mofo shit that was a good night. Shame we get old an slow down lol. 5 times seen The CULT F E C C F E

I have to agree, sadly. Seen them 6 times in the last four years, very inconsistent. But we have THIS, one of the great concert performances of a generation. Soundgarden was great, Pearl Jam too, but I think the Cult owned this concert. . . old school!!

I often watch this just for that first three and a half minutes. Great intro!

Ian Astbury doesn't - nay, can't - move like that anymore, sad. The 80's and 90's are long gone now... But The Cult were a huge part of my High School soundtrack, keg parties, pot smokin' gettin with girls, and driving around on Friday night in my 1970 Oldmobile Cutlass.

The cult of bull ! Nobody has ever managed to go so close to the divine primordial energy ! vital energy, knowledge and command in only verb ! God of Rock 🎸

Ian's doing all his usual prattling on and I'm thinking this is going to be pants, then suddenly they pull it all together and drop the hammer - That opening few bars is fucking outrageous. They fucking smashed it.

After every time I watch this video I have to take some time to resolidify my melted off face

THIS IS CULT! Still amazed watching this live video, so much energy, so much the document of 1992, such a huge sound they had on Pinkpop, Ian fucking singing his heart out, Billy destroying the LesPaul and the Marshalls, no way, and they still have the same credibility in the year MMX, at least for me!

saw the cult 1989/1990 edinburgh, one of the best live rock bands that have been lucky enough to see. Class act, class song!!!

Went to see the cult 2019 apollo Manchester still blew us away still best band ever they could off done two night the amount off songs in ther catalog x

God, this is amazing, I go so crazy when I hear the songs of The Cult, this is the most sensual for me, it's like the discharge of life for me, they are a legend💥💥

For those ITT who are stuck on the fact that The Cult are wearing flannel shirts, I'd like to say a couple things: 1. Flannel shirts were the (short-lived, thank God) fashion at the time. Fashion changes, and everyone follows it, even if they don't want to admit it. You don't see Pete Townsend strutting around in turtlenecks and skin-tight Levi's anymore. Speaking of which, Townsend was never a Mod, but he wore the clothes and followed the fashion in order to get an audience. No one ever called Pete a sell-out or accused him of "trying to fit in." This kind of fashion behavior in rock & roll is not at all unprecedented or unusual. 2. If you are playing for the Queen of England, you wear a suit and tie. If you are playing the Texas Jam, you wear a cowboy hat (for the first song or two anyway). And if you're playing a grunge festival, why wouldn't you wear a flannel shirt? 3. Yes this is a video of The Cult during that awkward stage all rock bands experience - right after their era of musical relevance but before they accepted life as a nostalgia act. But let's be really frank here - The Cult's music was, without question, the closest thing to grunge before actual grunge. They may very well have been trying to capitalize on the fact that they basically invented this style of riff-heavy, hard-edged, melodic rock, but never really got to enjoy their moment in the international spotlight like the top-tier grunge bands did. So what? They had it coming. I think some of you are put off a bit because the flannel shirts were a pretty stupid fashion for rock & roll - I still think of a lumberjack when I see one, not grunge music. In any case, I doubt you'd express a similar opinion if this was a punk festival and Ian Astbury was wearing a ripped Ramones shirt and Doc Martens.

+Nick Danger Actually, flannel shirts were NOT short lived. They were very popular in the 70s and early 80s. The grunge era was a return to that time with straight ahead hard rock and roll. I feel The Cult were always a mix of those eras before it came out. But anyway, nice post.

Well said, Mr. Danger. Also, a lot of the Seattle bands loved the Cult. Andrew Wood was a fan, and there is a video out there of the MLB and Soundgarden guys chatting after a Cult concert, 1989.

Rocks every time I listen to this song. Unbelievable!

Its a shame Ian Astbury became a bit erratic, The Cult were a brilliant band. Ian Astbury was influenced by various Canadian Native American tribes, and he and Billy Duffy seemed to have their disagreements, but my God the Cult could deliver some truly amazing, out of this world songs!! I am an Iron Maiden fan, and therefore I am true to the metal genre, but Cult are sort of hard core punk melodic rock, and I must confess for me the lines are blurred as to what is better. Both bands are equally brilliant in different ways!! I love them both!!

I love this band and 'Rain' is probably my fav rock tune of all time - thank you; you guys in the band! Makes me feel like somebody understands me.

+klistarf yeah... Such a sad story. I remember watching an interview in which either Duffy or Astbury said after his death, things were quite simply not the same anymore. They had huge problems replacing it, and soon after, though for other reasons, things started going downhill from there.

Great band, still love listening to them!

Pearl jam is on fire, soundgarden is on fire....wasnt Ian making a sort of statmeent here? 1992....Like, we will be swept by the grunge wave but here we stand, with unmtached passion and power, and the dignity of good old rock and roll.

The beginning has a kick ass Doors feel to it. I would love to see them live, I guess this will have to do for now!

30 years more like. Ian is a veteran performer since 1981 when he joined three guys he met and they were known as SDC.

The Cult rules! I remember seeing them in 1986 Oahu Hawaii, Sheraton Waikiki in the Hawaii Ballroom...fans spilling over in the hotel. it was f...ing insane!!! one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Who else was there???

That bass player is really driving the whole track... as great bass players tend to do!
