Not gonna lie, it really warms my heart everytime I can enjoy a new video of yours. Video games are a big passion of mine, but my whole family is completely indifferent towards it. No matter what genre, or setting, they always shut me down when I tried talking to them about it. And nowadays, as an adult, even my friends lost complete interest. Life is hard and busy sometimes, but making time to sit back and enjoy an old favourite game of mine, or dive into something new makes me so happy. And then seeing you, in your fine age enjoying and appreciating games, is really endearing. Bless you, stay healthy and godspeed to you

I’m from Germany and just discovered your wonderful channel. I was born 1968, discovering you read some of the same books I’ve read in my childhood I was so delighted. to get reminded ofLatte Igel, Rübezahl, Huckleberry Finn, Onkel Toms Hütte, Prinz Eisenherz and the beautiful stories of Hans Christian Andersen together with the Greek mythology and some other ingredients, it makes the mix that lets your fantasy fly secured by the roots of history and fantasy.

Just wanted to say that I love your videos. You're really engaging and sincere in a way that so few people are. Your videos always feel like being wrapped in a warm blanket, and they're informative and well produced to boot! I'm currently sick and your videos have been really comforting. Blessings to you!

Very upset. I’m subscribed and didn’t get an alert for this! Thanks KZread 😭. I just searched on a whim since we were getting videos near Saturday. I mean… 15 min is a decent length for a video! Thanks for giving us anything at all! Also: I took your advice and kept checking Play Asia. I checked just in time for their pending restock of the Atelier Mysterious trilogy and snatched it up ($99 vs $199 EVERYWHERE ELSE). I also picked up Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth because they had the switch version for $35 and it was $65 everywhere else! Happy gaming!

I very much adore this game, especially the King. I love how he is just in the background looking over Yuu! I got a plush of the dragon King himself from the NIS store and he's been my favorite plush ever since ♥

Agreed about the artwork. I’m in the boat of never looking into these before, although I had heard of this game at least (not the Liar Princess, though). This review has certainly peaked my interest to check either (or both) out at some point.

Beautiful box, unfortunately the loose paper bandage bothers me a bit. This has already been done by NIS America with other releases. In the American version, this is solved much better.

Seriously, these loose paper wraps drive me nuts! I secure them with a rubber band round the box. But it's really awkward, and it's so easy to get them dogeared. I understand the reason why they do it ... but it's not ideal.

Haha, how bizarre that the back is printed like that. Since it's such a small release, I'm wondering if it might've been a mistake and we're missing out on some of the artwork because of it. Curious.

I absolutely love this game!

Beautiful edition! That height and length is my favourite for special editions. I wish all the Atelier games had a beautiful edition like this for all their recent games. I haven’t played this game yet (still working my way through Sophie 2), but I did finish The Liar Princess and Blind Prince and thoroughly enjoyed it despite its slightly clunky platforming. The story was great with a gorgeous art style.

Wow, I never knew "The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince" had a spiritual successor! I definitely need to check it out at some point. I'm glad they're changing the gameplay, as I found the puzzle-platforming of the predocessor to be a bit too simplistic.

In that case, you may find this one (Cruel King) also too simplistic. I think it's actually geared mainly towards children. It's a very easy RPG with lots of side quests and of course a charming story.

@@Halucygeno It's about the balance of elements, and how that works for people individually. The lovely story, quirky characters (not as dark as Liar Princess), great art and music are all there. The gameplay can be criticised for its rather slow pacing and many encounters. I'm hoping I'll manage to put together a quick video looking at what's good and what's problematic.

My mother loves gaming, and I've watched her play video games for as long as I can remember. As soon as I was old enough to understand how to play a videogame at all, I immediately picked it up and never turned back. I think my first video game was Pokémon explorers of time. But it also could've been one of many DS era Harvest moon games. Well recently (if you can call January recent) I went to my local GameStop to pick up a copy of Fire Emblem engage on launch day. While we there there my mother saw a copy of the special edition of The Cruel King and the Great Hero on display. And she immediately lit up, she didn't end up getting the game but it made me happy to see her so enthusiastic about a game she'd never heard of before. Edit: I just talked with my mom about it and she said that just seeing it made her immediately think of Ni no Kuni because of the style and the box. And that she needs to get her hands on it. So I think even more that I should try and nab the Story Book edition for her if I can.

@@Food4Dogs Update: So I got the game on Ebay, or so I thought. Turns out the seller was selling the storybook edition... Without the game but with all of the bonuses and the box. And they didn't mention it at all,so now I'll have to get the game digitally so she and I can actually play it. Plus there's probably going to be shipping delays due to all of the snow that's going on where I live. And so the surprise is a mess. And no longer a surprise, but it's definitely been an experience she or I won't forget. But hopefully in the end she can actually play it.

@@MissBubbles I meant to say earlier: I assume you're kidding when you said "too difficult". 😄 This game is super easy, after 5 hrs of playing I can confidently say that the primary audience appears to be younger players. So for gamers like us, it's more a "treat" because of the art and lovely warm-fuzzy children's storybook appeal.

You Must Be Kidding! What do you think I've been doing the last few years? 😄 My wallet can tell you how much and how early I discovered LRG and other limited print companies. 😂

The ost sounds quite pleasant to listen to and the art style looks fun and cute. How engaging is the combat? I struggled a bit staying engaged with some rpg games (such as Dragon Quest) due to how simplistic the battle mechanics were, so I wonder if I would have a harder time getting into this one.

It is extremely simple - I would say aimed mainly at children . From what you say, I doubt you'd be the right target audience.

Yes, I actually buy a lot digitally! Most of my unboxings are for PS4 and Vita, because those are my main collecting platforms. But even there, I have many digital games. Let's face it, many games these days are digital-only. With the Switch, I have more games digitally than physically!

It is a very easy RPG - to me it feels like mainly aimed at children. It's still charming and enjoyable but suffers a bit from pacing and longueurs.
