"The Crow" is Wicked Good

Ойын-сауық

A review of the 1994 film “The Crow”, directed by Alex Proyas and starring Brandon Lee. Based on the graphic novel by James O’Barr.
I also watched all of the sequels, an experience that this critic calls “terrible... a slaughterhouse for the human spirit!”. Come watch!

Fantastic video! I was a senior in high school when THE CROW came out; my girlfriend and I must've seen it three times in the theater. Still holds up today as an example of what happens when a comic movie is done right, and your analysis of it is spot on. ...what really resonates with me in this video though is the memory of how much work it took back then to find good music. The amount of money I burned in independent record stores, Tower records, Barnes & Noble, you name it...buying entire CDs just for one song. And God forbid what you were looking for was rare! Soundtracks and compilations were a godsend; I remember going to a MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT show back in '93 and they were handing out compilation cassettes outside the venue, which included a bunch of the bands on this soundtrack like MACHINES OF LOVING GRACE and MEDICINE. I likely would have never heard either of them otherwise, especially the latter. Obviously streaming has changed everything, but nothing matches the feeling of finding that buried record store treasure. :)

Fuck yeah man, this is the best shit on KZread right now. You delivery, editing, and clear love for the source material is fantastic. I subbed 2 minutes into your first video and have been checking back here every week or so since it was released. Also love the FF Obsolete shirt. The story that takes place could be a fun deep dive as well. That was such a good album and has a special place in my shriveled black heart.

Definitely a formative movie and soundtrack for me. Can't count how many times I rented it before I found a cheap VHS copy. And the soundtrack was one of the first CD's I owned. Wish I still had it.

This movie evokes something inside of me that no other movie ever has. Pretty sure I contributed to an embarrassingly large percentage of the box office. SFW! Ha! Absolutely worth a watch sometime, but unlike The Crow, I definitely wouldn't call it timeless. It's probably the most Gen X movie I can recall, but I say that with a certain level of fondness Awesome work again! Quality over quantity, don't let any algorithms have you think otherwise.

Really great video @Sounds Pretty Grim I was worried you’d dipped there for a while, but even if you did, you gave us a fantastic video on MM's ACSS through which has become my favourite Manson album alongside Mechanical Animals, so thank you for that. I enjoyed The Crow for what it was, it never really meant anything to me and I obviously knew about it through Brandon Lee's death on set, making it infamous and in a lot of ways, more famous than the actual movie. However I really appreciated your breakdown and thoughts on it and may even give it another watch in the near future.

I’m fascinated by “The Crow: City of Angels” in large part because the final product was so terrible. But back in 1996, the hype in my circles was loud. The promotional material was great, the soundtrack had some good songs, the promise of a gothic romance with action was intriguing, and the trailer looked like it had a cool atmosphere. I met Vincent Perez himself at a convention as part of the promotion. The ship was sailing along fine until opening weekend, when we finally got to see it. As an aside, the novelization by Chet Williamson is pretty good. Still the same basic story, but Williamson is a good writer who makes the material work better. At least you don’t have to see the acting.
