Sting should have thanked and mention James o'barr in his induction speech into the WWE Hall of Fame... because had it not been for the crow look that he had he wouldn't have gotten as over as he did with the fans.. so he owes James O'barr and the crow for it... He's Lucky he was allowed to keep the crow gimmick for as long as he did..

@sil3nt j I liked Surfer Sting better, but the Crow gimmick gave him a distinct look. The surfer version always changed face paint and designs, he was not specific. The Ultimate Warrior had one particular face paint design, so it would not matter what colours he had.

I met James O'Barr at a convention a few years ago. Very nice but also a quiet man. I actually had him sign a Sting figure of mine ironically. He took it and looked at it for a minute, and then signed it "I am owed royalties, James O'Barr". We both laughed and he seemed to be a good sport about it. I hope to get Sting to sign the same figure someday! The Crow is one of my favorite movies of all time, and the comic is one of the most emotional stories I've ever read. I'd love to meet O'Barr again someday! I was honestly starstruck when I met him bc of the impact that character has had on me.

Sting was great, but he really should’ve thanked and credited James for the Crow look he used. It re-ignited his career. And there is no question that his look was copied directly from the Crow. It was, without question.

The first rule in avoiding lawsuits. Never admit guilt. Sting did not know if the guy was joking or not. If the guy was serious and Sting had said, yes the character was based on the Crow andwas recorded it, he had already lost and would owe.

Cant believe that Sting said that he got the idea from Marilyn Manson to James. The Crow gimmick saved Stings career. Always wonder why James never sued Sting over the look, but it just shows how down to earth James is. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

James O’Barr should have been shown Crow Sting’s 1997 WCW STARCADE entrance right then & there, before, after question asked...😶 James O’Barr inside mind reaction would have been most likely, “What in the Fuck, this beautifully amazing, how in the Hell, new Crow Sting against the NWO comic book soon”...🤯

Since I was 9, which would be 1990, sting was my favorite wrestler. In 1994, i found the crow graphic novel and movie in the same 2 week span, opened my eyes up to art styled to try as well as great music. Then come 1996/97, Sting starts showing up in crow make up. I was all for it. I know the Manson make up he is referring to. Manson had a pattern on his face similar to what sting changed his too, it was on cover to his “Guns God Government” era tour….but that dvd came out after his ‘Holy Wood” album, which was 2000. As they say in the wrasslin’ fan circle, not even Steiner math can solve that problem, Stinger.

@@waylinbanshee8174 I do know my history. Sting only used that design for a few months until he started using the Manson inspired design which he has used ever since. The character was obviously a Crow rip off suggested to Sting by Scott Hall. The Facepaint Sting has used for decades was inspired by Manson. That's a 100% fact.

I think the gimmick was directly and obviously based on The Crow but I gotta agree with dudes on the Marilyn Manson thing. When Sting debuted The Crow gimmick he had the mime-like eye slits just like Eric Draven (and a weird half painted face leaving only his jaw line and mouth unpainted) but I'm guessing when O'barr had a problem with the blatant resemblance to Draven Sting had to change up the face paint just a bit. If you look up the Rolling Stone 97 cover they're talking about it is pretty comparable if not identical almost.

WWE Superstar Kevin Nash was the one who gave Sting the idea to paint his face in tribute to The Crow, *BECAUSE* of the fact they are hard core Crow fans, like me. But it has nothing to do with The Crow character And because (with all do respect) to James, we all obveously know where any samples of Eric Draven's face paint comes from when inspired, it does put a yellow tape around James and his creation from the world a bit. And I wouldn't blame him. He owns that shit, he created our deep love for the most beloved story ever. Although I didn't quite understand why he said Sting told him he got the idea off of Marilyn Manson, it really wasn't true or maybe James forgot how Sting told him of how he got it. But in the case of Sting painting his face like The Crow, I hope James understood that Sting (Steve Bordan) had no thought of the Crow character.
